A topical numbing gel is applied, and the pain is nominal. AND, it is reapplied throughout the process to ensure that you are comfortable as possible. My biggest concern about the process was the pain, and it was really no big deal. The studio is clean, organized, and comfortable. Raschelle was careful to keep her hands clean, wore a mask the entire time, and used disposable supplies. The only reusable item was the tattoo machine, which was sterilized and protected to avoid contamination. I was very impressed from beginning of the process through the end, and I can't wait to go in for my touch up - if it's needed.
