Definitely make an appointment!! I went on a Tuesday morning as a walk-in and they generously squeezed me in. It took much longer than expected (mostly waiting time) because there was only one nail tech there at the time and the customer before me kept changing her mind on her nails so I was there waiting for probably an extra 30/45mins. However, I was satisfied with the service. The woman who did my nails was very polite and made sure I was happy with my nails. She kept asking along the way how I was liking them which I appreciated because if I didn't like something she could fix it. She did cut my cuticle once which was what I was afraid of coming to a new place but she was more mindful after that. Overall, I would go back with an appointment. This set cost me $50 which is an average price for this design. read more

I called to get acrylics today and was able to get an appointment right away. My nail tech, sky, let me soak my previous nails off (which is so much better than getting them chipped off). He consistently made sure that I was comfortable and that nothing was hurting. The set I wanted was a little tricky to do as it involves putting on gold foil, but it was no problem for my tech! I can whole heartily say these are the most beautiful nails I have gotten to date! I am definitely coming back here for service in the future!! Ps. My FAVORITE nail place. I went to elegant nails for over 3 years and only stopped going because I moved out of the area but it's still somewhere I stop when I come back to visit Monterey. Not only are my nails everything I want them to be as well as my pedicures but they are the nicest people and it's a great atmosphere. There are so many colors to chose from and the owner is a very talented nail artist. Before finding elegant years ago I went from one nail place to the next trying to find somewhere to fit my expectations and they always succeed my expectations and more. I went to this place yesterday after reading all the great reviews. Unfortunately this place was a let down. I was sat down and felt really rushed the entire time. Like "just get this service done so I can hurry and do the next one" type of service. Unfortunately my gel manicure turned out to be lumpy and sloppy. I even started BLEEDING! I didn't realize it until after I left and I felt really cheated for what I paid for. I am giving 2 stars for their friendly service but the end results need to be greatly improved. Lin and James have had to hire extra help to keep pace...Often splitting their expertise between clients where necessary. I walked in today with my daughter and a close female friend, for pedicures. The place was busy for an early afternoon...3 chairs had clients, 1 person was on the seats waiting for her nails to be done...and 1 woman was getting a pedicure. Instead of waiting a long time for our pedicures...Lin orchestrated her staff and kept things moving right along so everyone was being attended to and being treated with the attention needed! As always...Great service. And, as basically a regular guy... Elegant Nails never makes me feel uncomfortable about getting pedicures...and even encourages me having my toes painted! This salon is good at some thing but not good at others. They take great care of your nails. They take their time getting the gel or powder off the nail and prevent damaging the nail. However when they do the nail, it's not very good. They also encourage you to show up before your appointment to soak your nails. I showed up 20 mins early, sat there until my appointment time when they started soaking me nails. They then told me again to get there early to soak my nails. I don't make an appointment to come early, I make it so you can get me in and out. read more

Went in about 2 months ago and wasn't going to review but decided I should -- The husband charged me $98 for full set and a pedicure. Which I think was excessive. The wife worked on My nails, she was sweet and they came out nice but the gel ended up peeling off on my thumb the very next day and the nail broke two days later. The pedicure was done by the husband. It was alright, but I asked for my nails to be cleaned and he didn't do a good job at it. I haven't gone here since I was cut by James while doing a fill. I was surprised to find I was the only one there. I was OK good I have James all to myself and he could take his time. He rushed on my nails cutting my thumb with the filing machine. Ouch! To my surprise he had the nerve to say it was my fault that it slipped and cut me because I recolored my nails. Sorry no!
