Hear ye! Hear ye!…read more The first place in the Capital Region, committed exclusively to Ethiopian food, is now selling its wares at the Sunday Schenectady Greenmarket. And it's good. Very very good. At this point there is no website. There are precious few pictures. Although you can glean a few tidbits of information from the Tara Kitchen facebook page. That's because this operation is being helmed by Aneesa Waheed, an the injera is being cooked on the griddle of her main restaurant. But this is a new and separate concept she's testing out in the Greenmarket. You want Ethiopian food in the Capital Region? Well, get down to Proctors on Sunday and prove there is a market for it. The downside is there isn't really a great place to sit and eat your bowl of deliciousness at the market. There is maybe one table set up in the room. But what I did was took my bounty to the main stage, and watched a little bit of live music, while scooping up spicy wads of shiro wat in a torn off piece of springy injera. However, Aneesa began her first restaurant after building up a following at the Schenectady Greenmarket. So I'm hopeful that before too long we'll have a beautiful dining room to sit and enjoy a proper platter of this food. Perhaps even washed down with a bit of honey wine. In the meantime, this new stand at the Schenectady Greenmarket totally scratches the itch. Come and get some.

Lotus is a welcome addition to the area. We stopped by the Greenmarket to try Lotus and I'm so glad…read morewe did. The injera does not disappoint. We tried both the beef tibs and doro wat, along with some veggie dishes. Reasonably priced and generous portions. It made for an excellent lunch and I'm looking forward to my next visit. I love that you can mix and match your choices, so everyone can get what they like. The Greenmarket has a few tables available for eating, and we were lucky enough to grab a couple of seats to enjoy our meal.

If I could give this place 2 different ratings I would. One for food quality, the other for ethics,…read morehonesty and moral compass. For food quality is was delicious. Everything was tasty and the meat sauce was great! I would give them 5 stars. However, I will never go back ...I would NEVER give them my business again! We found this place online, and asked them if they would like to come to a tournament we were hosting at a local school as a part of the concessions. The fundraising would consist of a portion of the hot dogs that were sold that day, a small portion would go back to our organization. The stand was successful and everybody enjoyed having them there! When it was actually time to cut a check for our portion of the fundraiser we never heard from them. When I did finally reach the owner he told me we would receives flat $75. Which I thought was great! When I asked how many hot dogs were sold, (for my own curiosity, and to report back to the board, the owner got very angry and defensive. He stated it was none of my business how much they sold and did not need to share those numbers with us, and so on. Considering that the agreement was agreed upon how many hot dogs were sold/ we would receive a portion of it..... it was an important piece of information. To this day we have sadly never heard from him again. We basically gave him a venue for the day, and he was dishonest and never gave the proceeds for that fundraiser back to the youth organization. The story has a very predictable ending..... I bet you can guess what we never received in the mail? No matter how great an establishment is, if the foundation of it is built from dishonesty, and lack of conscience for what is right, I cannot support that business. This was 2 years ago.... plenty of time to do right. - 5 stars if that was an option
