Recently planned a get together with some former coworkers. Needed a place to meet up. When I googled, "good cheap eats in Schenectady," the 20 North Broadway Tavern topped the short list. Done. It was an instant hit. I wanted the pastrami sandwich pictured on the website. Turns out, it was every bit as good as it looked. Probably the best I've had in the Capital Region. I think it came with coleslaw but they let me switch it for a small salad. The beer was cold. The server/ bartender was both friendly and efficient. The food came up relatively quickly. I was relieved and delighted. The tavern has just the right look. It's cute from the outside with nice signage. Inside, the lighting is dim-- especially at night--with the feel of a cool dive bar. If you want a more festive setting during the summer, there's outdoor seating complete with hanging string lights. That actually looked very inviting but my friends chose to stay indoors due to the threat of rain. As we prepared to leave, my friends were wondering why they hadn't been to the tavern before. These wings. Let me tell you they are something to write home about. Thy were awesome, I had their sasquatch(?) sauce..... pretty sure that's what it was called. It was very good, and apparently award winning. I've been to Schenectady over the past 10 years a lot and very unsure how I have not stumbled across this place. For the looks of this Schenectady bar, it's average. It doesn't look like much to be honest. 20 North Broadway even has a generic name. Has some great beers and cocktails. Only pretty average food but it's not bad though. A great place for watching games. It's packed when there's something on. The bar is kind of a tight fit, partly because of the crowds blocking the entrance and stuff. It's about $8 for a basic cocktail. There's great reliable things like Jameson. Food is more of a crapshoot. It's about $9 for the Soft Pretzel Sticks. Seems like a lot for these. A redeeming factor is these come with horseradish mustard. This is the best part. Good beers and cocktails. It's one of the better places for watching games if you're okay with crowds in tight spaces. A go to spot in Schenectady for comfort eats and NFL ticket. There is plenty of free parking in the LAZ lot directly across the street. In the warmer months there are alley and back patio seating options. The inside of the bar is traditional with drink and music memorabilia. The restaurant changed ownership a year ago but the charm did not change. The drafts rotate frequently and Flower Power is my favorite choice. I try to rotate food items from tendies, Reuben sandwich with Mac salad and chicken wings. But I typically get the award winning wings. Always order crispy! What a great little spot! I'm so glad we stopped in. We weren't sure what we had gotten into at first, as it took an awkward few minutes for someone to greet us at the door & help us to a table, but we realized pretty quickly that we had found a great local joint. The service - Wonderful, pleasant, & accommodating. We let our server know right away that we were very, very thirsty & she appeared moments later with glasses of ice water for everyone & a big pitcher for the table. She also brought me pickles per my request (I only asked for one, & she brought three!) The prices - Phenomenal! It's rare to see good quality food priced so reasonably anymore. I got the Blackened Chicken "Big Salad" with their homemade tomato basil vinaigrette with a side of fries. It really hit the spot. The interior - Fascinating & fun. So much to look at. They have plenty of beer on tap including fiddlehead, Sierra Nevada, Coors, Yuingling, blue moon and Guinness to name a few. There are also plenty of liquors for cocktails. I took the recommendation of other reviews and got the wings. They were extra crispy and delicious. There's a fine line between crispy and over cooked. Some of the wings in the order were perfect, others a bit overdone but the sauce more than made up for it. I also sat at the bar and the service was pretty good. The bar wasn't overly busy and it took a bit to place my order but everyone was extremely friendly and kind. I'd be back. read more

This is the second time I've stopped by in as many trips to the Schenectady area. The food here is really good and great prices. I've had a burger with waffle fries both times, I think it's like $10. They have a bunch of craft beer cans, which run $8 a pop so the food is almost cheaper than the beer. Both visits for me were on a Friday and the first one in May they were packed. This second time in August was a little less crowded but still seems like the place to be. I was at a local brewery and they recommended getting food here & I can see why. Came here with a group of friends and was very pleased with the wings. I tried the triple treat, squash and garlic parmesan flavored wings. They all were delicious in their own ways. But I had a personal preference on the squash since I like buffalo flavored wings. I also liked the garlic parmesan wings because they were crispy delicious. Delicious, delicious medium wings. Saturday I went to a little corner of heaven located in Schenectady, and I am very mad at myself I hadn't made it here sooner. I arrived around 1pm, alone, ready to dig into the 'best wings' in the area. I was not doubtful, I was ready. Many people whom I trust have named these, the best. The small tavern was packed for lunch. No seats at the bar, but I was lucky that within a few minutes, a table was cleared and I swiped it up. The waitress was sweet, my glass was always full, which was good because I was there a while. The waitress warned me that the kitchen would take a while, no problem. I was in the mood for a few beers. I was not planning to wait an hour for a dozen wings, but honey they were WORTH IT. Yes, an hour wait. Once that plate of hot, buttery, chicken wings was in front of me, it was worth it. That first bite, crunchy. tasty, yum! The sauce is definitely unique, addictive. The crisp they get on the wing with out drying it out was divine. My one complaint is, these wings are phenomenal and need an appropriate side served with them. The blue cheese dressing is not on par with the quality of the wings. A house made blue cheese would have really put these wings over the top. I hope they eventually get there. Another one of our stops for the wing walk. This is the one I was most excited about trying bc the name stuck out the most. Honey habanero. What!?!?! Anyways, wings were perfect w a ton of meat and crispy and the flavor was sweet then a slight kick afterwards. I deducted one star for one reason. Instead of blue cheese they gave us mayo!?! The food was the only saving grace as the service here was lackluster at best. I tried calling this restaurant two nights in a row and no answer, walked in to the bar and was started down by two employees but not approached to order, and when I finally came in to sit down and try their infamous wings? I could could on one hand how many minutes were spent between taking my order/checking in on my food. They didn't seem to be busy, but all I can say is don't expect much facetime with their service. However, the food was really great. I got the full dozen wings (medium) with a half side of waffle fries. Both were fried super crunchy, so if you don't like your wings hard, maybe mention whilst ordering. The fries had a nice season salt served on top and the wings were actually really great. The food is great. I do enjoy the food here. I must say that the cost between the food and what you get I don't know Jury still out on that one because they are pretty expensive. The service is not bad. I had a pretty decent time and pretty decent experience while I was there so I cannot fault that and the ambience is actually pretty good as well so the only thing that I really dropped the star on was the fact that the cost of everything together really kind of takes away the whole experience. I do understand that you have overhead. I do understand that you do have costs that you have to put into play but if people can't afford what you're putting out then they're gonna stop coming. First off I have to admit I made a tragic mistake. I had heard from several folks that 20 North was THE spot for wings. I took my wife and we both thought they were just OK. Turns out that I was actually eating the wings at a different Schenectady establishment which is close by. Now that I have been to the actual 20 North I can say the wings here are FANTASTIC. Cooked perfectly crispy, they are the ideal size with a nice variety of sauces. I am a fan of the medium, triple threat and Squatch. The blue cheese is just OK and comes in a very small portion. If you are a blue cheese nut you need to order extra. It is fair to say that these wings are so good you don't need it! They do make other things and maybe someday I will diverge from the main attraction. A dive bar to say the least, 20 North has a very happy vibe. With classic rock playing in the background and servers aimed to please this will be a Schenectady favorite now and in to the future. They have a cool outdoor spot to hang and is also open very late. Hoards of bar hoppers pack the place on weekends. Street parking is available and there is also a community lot right across the street. Been in Schenectady NY for a few weeks to visit family I don't know much places so I decide to trust Yelp reviews to help me find some good eats. I see the reviews are high for this Resturant and decide to give it a try. I ordered a few dishes because like I said I'm with family. I get home with my meals to find the onion rings are completely burnt, the bread burnt and the burger patties burnt but the inside of the patty I was completely pink. Great food at reasonable prices. I love their wings- crispy and flavorful with a generous amount of sauce. The best part about the wings is that they don't break the bank. The atmosphere is typical for a classic bar- sports and news on the tv, crowded, and dimly lit. Although the volume gets pretty loud, it's not too difficult to communicate or hear the servers. Service is pretty good, although every once in a while a server forgets something- but it's not too bad since they either immediately get it for you or comp part of your tab to make up for it. Overall, the people who work there are friendly, and make sure you have a good experience. I've enjoyed eating here despite my sensory issues with the noise level. Chose here as the reviews were good and not too far from the Via Aquarium we visited. It was a Saturday during lunchtime and the bar area was busy. As we waited for our food, the tables for lunch started filling up quickly. We had the kids with us, and since it was during the day it was ok, but I wouldn't bring them again. I felt better there was another table with kids as well. I thought their food was great (we ordered 2 types of wings, a burger, and cheese sticks), however, the wait time was unusually long. I don't get down this way that often, so I am going to be like a political pollster and pronounce 20 North a winner based on the evidence I have. Point #1: a bunch of us were here for a wing tasting and agreed the product was excellent with a thoroughly original sauce which, we agreed, is not based on Frank's Red Hot. Point #2: the special of the day when we walked in a little after noon was French onion soup and, by the time we left at 1, it was sold out. Creativity and integrity in the kitchen. Of course, this being a bar, I should also mention the drinking. There were lots of regulars at the bar and they seemed quite happy. The beer list was not extensive but included Flower Power, the #1 selling New York brewed IPA, so I would be happy as well. A friend wondered why, on a chilly but bright early spring day, there were so few people on the street in downtown Sch'dy. The answer is they're inside drinking at places like this. I have been wanting to try this place for some time. This place is exceptional in so many ways. Let's first talk service. So many people checked up on us, whether is was about food or refilling our drinks. The staff was very attentive. Seasoned staff that work together with one of the highest level of service I've seen in the restaurant industry. Don't underestimate this place. Let's break down the food. We had the garlic parm wings first. Very crispy and no powder garlic here...it's chunks for garlic lovers. Loved them and will try more flavors next time. I had the basic burger and I could taste that char and it was huge. It was juicy and full of flavor. I had the waffle fries as a side, which were crispy! For $10, it's a steal. The lunch crowd was diverse and seems to attract regulars at the bar. Regulars equals consistency. Consistency means success. The rest of the menu looked like the standard bar menu. They methodically stick to what they know and do it well. I was really impressed. This goes to tell you the old saying. A great restaurant is one with great service and food. It doesn't have to be trendy or fancy. I was here for lunch during the week. I bet on weekends and nights, they're packed. I'd be a regular if I lived closer.
