The food was wonderful. The staff was very attentive, not the same recipes as years ago, but still decent food.

We were greeted and seated by a very personable hostess and had we walked out the front door door after that that would have been the highlight of our experience. Aftet being seated it was over 30 minutes before our waitress even acknowledged us and actually messed up our drink order which consisted of a couple of diet cokes, a sprite, and a water, I don't know who kept making the mistake but it seemed like everybody there was having a hard time distinguishing water from sprite from club soda!!!! And then came the foof or so you call it! I ordered meatballs for my granddaughter which I could not even cut with a knife, seemed to have been microwaved for about ten minutes. too long And was inedible even for a hungry three year old, I ordered spaghetti which literally was ice cold. Not cooled off, but taken out of a tub and tossed in some melted butteT. also inedible. And then there was the cheese pizza. Just cheese and sauce right, and so much garlic that it was inedible as well. All in all this was one of the worst restaurants I have been to in a long time and would not recommend to anyone! Fountain Pizza was legendary. The pizzas I ordered yesterday did not come close. The crust on the first pizza was crumbly and very dry. Instead of the usual light garlic crust, garlic overwhelmed the pizza. There was less sauce than expected that added to the dryness. The second pizza was better but the strong garlic was too much. Today me and my girlfriend went to get dinner!! The atmosphere was great, but the food be mid. The medium wings weren't superb, didn't like how they were surprising barbecue. My wife was disappointed(I proposed there). Burger was mid, the burger had too much cheese. Must have milked a whole cow to get that much cheese. But the fries be smacking, no complaints. Turning over a new leaf and eating more salads in 2024! Sorry about the bad pun (So fun). When it comes to salads, the Fountain is among my top go-to places. Their salads contain a variety of vegetables, are consistently very fresh and generous in portion to boot. I ordered a grilled chicken salad. It came with plenty of delicious chicken. I had a bit leftover to take home. I have some doctors' visits coming up so I'm trying to eat in moderation. I splurged by ordering the signature cocktail, The Fountain, consisting of gin, muddled orange and Prosecco. It was light, refreshing and delish. Thanks to Ginger, who truly knows the meaning of hospitality and always provides great service. My husband and I like to sit at the bar. Sometimes we get into conversations with other patrons, which can be fun. The Fountain is always clean. Ginger and her staff can be seen wiping down the countertops. The good: the food was great. Everyone at our table enjoyed what they ordered (Margherita pizza, chicken & broccoli Alfredo, cheeseburger, Reuben, and tuna sandwich). The food also came out hot, which is always a plus. The bad: the service was terrible. The server we had was very nice, but took too long to get our drink orders after being seated, and took some more time to get the drinks to us. We were ready to order but we couldn't find our server and we waited again to place our orders in. Would I go again? Most likely, but only to get take out. read more

The food at the Fountain is always consistent. The service is great and the vibe is that of a typical neighborhood bar with the mix of a pizza joint. I was introduced to the Fountain about 20 years ago when my older brother took me to get "the best pizza in Albany". I always liked their burgers but last time I just had a pasta dinner. It was spaghetti with marinara and it came with a salad and Italian bread. The star of the night was our drinks. First time visit and we were far from impressed. Staff moved so slowly it was as if they weren't moving and it took far too long to get their attention... it wasn't busy! French Onion Soup - Onions cut way too big completely undercooked, so they were crunchy and overall it just didn't taste right. Chicken Wings - Cooked fine but sauce was weird. Buffalo Chicken Salad - Salad was fine but the coating was like General Tso's Chinese and the sauce even worse. The final nail in their coffin... they charged us for a different tables order, when there were only two tables taken in the whole place. Been a customer at this business for over 50 years but for various reasons, I have not eaten here for many, many years. Last night's visit was 5 stars. Arrived at 6 PM with another couple and thankfully, we had a reservation. Very surprised And grateful they allow reservations because the place was packed. First of all, the service was spectacular. Still can't believe how our waitress was able to tend to all of her tables without missing a beat. My wife had a spinach salad and we shared a pizza. My wife said the salad was great as was the pizza. I ordered a large white pizza with sausage and jalapeños and it was simply amazing. The crust was great and the toppings were fresh and abundant. We made a reservation for The Fountain Restaurant on Fri 1/13/23 for 5:30pm.This place is always busy. And has been a neighborhood go to for many years. The Romano family has won their customers' loyalty with great service & consistently good pizza. We were early and there were two seats open at the bar. So the bartender Tony moved our reservation to there. The bar works nicely for us here. Thanks Tony. We ordered a wine ($7) & a local craft beer,Jack's Abbey on draft ($9) while we looked over the menu. The Fountain makes great pizza, but tonight just wasn't a pizza night for us. My bride had a small Caesar salad w/ chicken ($10) right size for her. The large is not an exaggeration. I had the caprese sandwich-Fresh Mozzarella, Tomato, Basil, EVOO & Balsamic Glaze on Ciabatta bread ($11) Note: you can add chicken breast or eggplant for $4. more. Very good sandwich. It's been at least 4 years, maybe longer and the pizza was as good as we remembered!!! The inside has been redone to look a bit brighter, but still has that neighborhood feel. Spoke with one of the Owners and you can hear the pride in her voice as she talked about the renovations they did during COVID shutdown. Food that went to other tables looked great, but we were there for Pizza, and it did not disappoint! Good selection of beers on tap and wines, a nice cocktail list as well! We ordered take out because I was laying in St.Peter's hospital recovering from a pacemaker surgery. Pasta fizole was awesome! Potato skins were great! My girl whom picked up food said service was great!!! And the meatball/sausage combo sub she had was awesome. I ordered antipasto and it was by far one of the best meals that I have had in a long time!!!!! She said that the place was kinda dead for a Friday evening! I know the Fountain is a staple that's been in the neighborhood forever. I have friends that frequently frequent the Fountain. And they love it. In fact, one of the Fountain staff spots one of my buddies and knows his drink of choice.... which is in his hand almost instantly. It reminds me of a cross between Cheers and a typical "get a slice" NYC pizza joint. Sit wherever there is an empty table with menus on it. Maybe the table and chairs will be clean; maybe not. Whatever. This is not a swanky, pretentious establishment. It's basic, good "chow" (my aforementioned Fountain regular buddy uses that word; this is my homage to him). We had a couple of salads to start and then shared a pizza. Salad was just OK; the lettuce was a bit wilted and had a few pieces that I wouldn't eat....but the blue cheese dressing served on the side was delicious. Pizza is a nice size and perfect for sharing. A bit greasy....but very tasty. Service was curt and minimally friendly but it felt like family hooking us up with a good, quick dinner...so it was fine. I'm sure I'll be back at some point in the future and, perhaps, as one of my yelp friends said...I'll "see the light". read more

It's time for an update. My last review of the Fountain was August 2007. Amazingly, I was the first person to review this long-time regional favorite. Since then I've had a roller coaster relationship with the place. In the early days I fell in love. It became a date night spot. Not because the food was so great, but just because the place was so damn inviting. The food was comforting. The beer was cold. The hospitality was warm. And the neighborhood vibe was intensely appealing. But over time, shortcomings in the food became harder and harder to overlook. And categorically I began to dismiss tavern-style pizza. Lately, I've been finding my way back to the region's taverns, and trying to find what the best things are at each of these classic neighborhood haunts. It helps to find people who truly love a place, because they'll help you navigate the enormous menus. Thanks to Josh K. I've found that the Fountain's pizza is truly delicious when topped with their meatballs or fried eggplant. Both of these toppings are excellent. These pies are made for toppings. So skip the plain cheese, and load this thicker crust pie up with the good stuff. Sadly, they now use sliced sausage links instead of loose Italian sausage. But thanks to a great suggestion, it turns out this sliced sausage goes surprisingly well with jalapeño peppers. Jalapeño peppers on pizza? Hell yeah. As for the wings. Hots are more flavorful than mediums. Skip the medium's. They are lackluster. Ask for the wings crispy, and you'll have a fighting chance at getting them cooked properly. Mozz and Melba are more than satisfactory. The melba sauce is oddly thin, but it does have nice flavor. And it's the flavor that counts. The best thing on tap is going to be some for of Sam Adams. I'd love to see them bring in even something like Sierra Nevada to mix it up a bit. A big craft pale ale to parter with a big craft lager? I don't think that's asking too much. I'm just glad to be back on good terms with this beloved tavern, and to have discovered a way to enjoy the food as much as the old time atmosphere. read more

We've been here many times over many, many years (50?), including when the Fountain was located several doors away (where Graney's is now located). The pizza has always been a favorite through all those years. Yes, there have been a few times when we ordered something else, but 99% of the time it would be a pizza. Sometimes we also order a salad to make us feel like we are having a more balanced meal. Sometimes we even include an order of steamed clams when they are a special on the blackboard. But it is always a destination for pizza when we have that pizza craving. The crust used to be more heavily infused with garlic, and my wife might argue that it still is. But we both enjoy garlic so it is not likely to ward us off or hold us at bay. Our standard choice of toppings over the last fifteen years or so has been with sausage, fresh mushrooms, peppers, onions, and meatballs. Usually two slices of the eight in the pie is sufficient to fill us up, especially if we've included a salad or steamed claims. On rare occasions, probably in our younger years, we could go for three slices. In any event, some portion always seemed to come home with us. How was it the next day? Excellent, whether you reheated it or ate it cold it was still delicious. A group of ten of us got together tonight to mix it up. In addition to having the opportunity to try three different pizzas, we also had the chance to try the wings and the mozzarella sticks. Our pizzas were: Meatball I & Onions Sausage & Jalapeños Eggplant, Fresh Mushrooms & Peppers All three were delicious, and all ten of us were pleased. A few of us even agreed that the pizza was better than recent prior experiences here when we thought it had gone downhill. One order of wings was requested Medium and a second was requested Hot. The Medium seem to have no spiciness at all, but had a nice crispiness and flavor. The Hot were more like other restaurants' Medium IMO. There seemed to be a general consensus that the Mozzarella sticks were really good. The Melba sauce was very thin and runny, but had a decent amount of flavor. I definitely would have liked a sauce with more viscosity. Pitchers of Samuel Adams Cold Snap were perfect for washing down everything. Our server was a well seasoned individual who efficiently handled our large group and her other assigned tables. I have no reason to discontinue coming here for pizza, but I might try to convince my wife to try some different toppings, e.g., eggplant. Our cost per person after tax and tip was $16. read more

Disappointed You look at the pictures on Yelp and I was excited to grab a pizza was we passed through town. Let's just say, not all that good. We ordered the pizza well done and it was undercooked. The sauce didn't have much flavor and the pizza had way too much cheese. Maybe I am spoiled frequenting pizza shops in NY, New Haven, and Boston, but in the end this pizza was nothing to write home about. It might be the best pizza in Albany but that isn't saying much. I've lived in the area for over 6 years now and never came here because it didn't seem like anything special. I went in for dinner last Wednesday and it just confirmed my suspicions. The hostess was ready to tell us there were no tables available before even checking, it just didn't feel very inviting. There were at least 3 tables waiting to be cleared and one ready for customers. We were sat pretty quickly once she noticed. Our waitress was lively and kind... to the table next to us who was celebrating a birthday. However, quite rude to my table. I've worked in customer service for years, I will never understand being rude to customers! Regardless, I had a smile on my face through the whole dinner, something the waitress could work on. The medium chicken wings tasted like something I would get from the Chinese take out in the mall foodcourt. The personal chicken bacon ranch pizza was fine as long as I didn't eat the chicken on it. It looked and tasted like it had been sitting out all day. The whole place felt sticky and cheap. It was an awful experience and I couldn't wait to leave. I've heard that back about 20 years ago this place was a good spot for pizza, guess that's not the case anymore. Wish I never went. Definitely wont be going back. read more

We had a great meal here! Our visitors from Texas wanted a place for good pizza, wings, and salads. I felt the pressure of picking the perfect place. The Fountain did not disappoint! All the food was so delicious and all the picky requests for the teenagers (wing sauce on side, dressing on side) came out correctly. We ordered ALOT of food for a party of 6- multiple wings all different, a sauage & pepperoni pizza, a bunch of salads, turkey clubs, chicken parm, lasagna, pasta faijoli. The pizza had a really nice crispy crust and good sausage. Beside the food being perfect, our waitress was great. She was very attentive and super friendly. This is a decent joint for inexpensive yet tasty pizza and a beer. Overall the food is nothing special. Large portions and too much greasy fried food but sometimes isn't that what hits the spot? This is definitely a locals place with lots of regulars yet the wait staff (aside from the bartender) is always welcoming and makes you feel like a regular. One thing I can never figure out is if you order chips and salsa, they give you doritos and salsa. The first time I thought this was a mistake and they had run out of regualr corn chips, but then another time we tried the nachos and sure enough...doritos! Now, I'm not complaining, this is a bold move. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here but its a great spot to go with friends to split a couple pizzas and pitchers. read more

Great pizza, but a slow service. My party of 7 called a half hour before we were hoping to arrive to get a reservation. They happily accommodated us and said there would be a table waiting. I haven't been to this place since freshman year, before I was into yelp. I liked this place back then and I still like it now. The place is quite small, but they fit a decent amount of tables in there. The place was packed when we arrived at 7pm. Our entire party wasn't there yet, but we were still hoping to order some beverages before they came. The waitress didn't show up for 15 minutes. I had to go grab menus for my table. We were finally able to order a pitcher of beer to share while we waited for the rest of our group. They were, of course, fashionably late. Most of us ended up ordering pizza. Two ordered burgers, but I didn't hear their feedback on them. I split a large mushroom (fresh), roasted red pepper and jalapeno pizza with my friend for about $17 (toppings were $2 each). We also ordered a serving of cheese fries for $5. The fries were pretty standard, thin fries smothered in traditional cheese sauce. They weren't anything special, but they hit the spot. I really enjoyed the pizza. The crust was a nice thickness to supply a sturdy base to all the toppings we got. The crust was pretty tasty too. I didn't feel the need to dip it into hot sauce like I typically do. The toppings were fresh and plentiful. The cheese was cooked to that perfect golden brown. The sauce was average, but the overall product really hit the spot. I was so full by the end of it. The service was sparse, but she was nice and the place was pretty busy (at least when we first got there). We were able to get pitchers of water to accompany our beer, which was a plus. Overall, I am quite fond of this place. It holds good memories and has good comfort food. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to hang out with some low key friends, drink beer, and eat tasty food. The cost is a little on the pricier side, but it's mostly worth it.
