I was recently back in town visiting friends and booked a last minute appointment for a balayage and cut with Kanden (bright and early at 8am on a Saturday morning no less). Boy am I happy I did! Kanden did an amazing job on both the cut and color. I'm naturally blonde and have been getting balayage done for years, with various results. Kanden knocked my color out of the park! She listened to my preferences and gave me some great suggestions about going for a more neutral tone and adding more highlights in the area of my hair that shows in updos. The color turned out so beautifully! The cut was equally great, the staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the salon is as clean as a whistle. They even have super comfortable washing sinks, which include a headrest so your head isn't dangling uncomfortably while you are getting your hair washed. I was overcharged for my blowout, $68 relative to the $35 price listed on the website. When booking, I was not told that there were different prices for blowouts due to the level of the stylist. While I absolutely condone that for specialized services like cut and color, an over 100% increase from the stated price on the website should be transparently shared ahead of time, especially as there were multiple openings. Moreover, I was told the Salon Manager would call me to discuss within a few minutes, and that has yet to happen. read more

He is a lot of fun, and by the time I left I felt like I had a new friend. I wear my hair very short and always have, and it can be difficult to find someone in Nashville who cuts short hair. When I get a good haircut or color, I tip well and send a thank you note. When I get a bad cut or color, I still tip 20% and there's no thank you note. Yes, I have a problem. I can't believe I go away from a bad service feeling bad for the stylist. Sadly, after explaining what I wanted, showing pictures and investing 3+ hours and big money in a foil highlight, I left very dissatisfied. There's this huge under-processed chunk of hair right on my part that ruins an otherwise ok highlight. Not sure how it happened, especially after I specifically shared my concern about staggering foils around my part to avoid the dreaded line. Sadly, I would not recommend this Salon for blonde highlights. Update: The manager called and convinced me to return. Jeff Gensemer corrected my blonde and made good. I would recommend him to anyone. He took the time to make my locks look like I had initially intended. I changed my 1 star to 4 stars. They cared enough to make it right. read more

Holy cow! I just had my hair done by Kaylin, and I cannot believe the before and after! I have to (aka choose to) get my hair colored every 4-5 weeks due to the lovely fact that grays are trying to take over (thanks Grandma for your hair genes lol), and I always want my color to be rich, full of life, and close to my natural roots. Little did I know, but the hard water here in Nashville is killing me! Kaylin was so kind, personable and did an AMAZING job on my hair. I would highly recommend! If you go, tell her I sent you! You won't be disappointed. The hair massage during conditioning is an added bonus as is the wine they offer. After coloring my hair for about 15 years I always go into a new hair salon experience with pretty low expectations, unfortunately. I fawn over gorgeous Pinterest photos, and although I curb my expectations, the reality is seldom near what I anticipated. Elements came with both great reviews online as well as some personal recommendations, so I was hoping for at least a bit better than mediocre... and boy was I wrong.... it was FANTASTIC! I was paired with LC and came to her with very grown out balayage hair and asked to be more blonde. I explained that I wanted to be as far from a warm blonde as possible and showed her some long bob photos for cut inspiration. LC hit every single mark and then some. LC is a true professional that clearly has an amazing way with hair- LC, you better stay put here in Nashville because I don't think I can trust my hair with anyone else at this point!! L.C. and Element Salon 12South have completely blown me away! I first came to the salon in early January of 2018, as I was in desperate need of a trim. When I called to book an appointment, I had no preference for a stylist. I was randomly paired with L.C. and man, was I lucky! Since our first appointment together in January until now, L.C. has continued to go above and beyond. Every appointment I walk out of that salon door with a smile on my face and a new cut or color that I LOVE. Not only is she extremely talented, with many years of experience under her belt, but she is also a wonderful listener. A trait that I believe to be so important within this industry! In all of my 24 years of hair adventures, I have never worked with a stylist that truly listened to what I wanted, and ran with it. Recently, I told L.C that I was hoping to switch up my hair color. I was blonde at the time and ready for a big change. She took time to discuss different color options with me, unafraid to be completely honest in regards to what colors she felt would look best with my skin tone (and which ones might not). It was refreshing to show her the many Pinterest images that I had brought in, and for her to tell it to me straight (well...very very kindly because she is an angel!) of how realistic those colors really were for me. L.C and I ended up picking a beautiful auburn color, and I have never received more compliments on my hair in my entire life. I am so incredibly happy and impressed! DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! I would give this place 1 star if that was a possibility. I made an appointment for my first hair cut and color (full head of highlights or full balayage) after quarantine at the Element Salon 12South location. I brought a few very specific pictures with me and the stylist (Suesan) said she felt it could be reached. She shared with me that she was unable to blow dry my hair due to COVID regulations at that point, so I was not able to see what my hair looked like prior to leaving. She dried two small pieces in front, but it was very hard for me to see what it would have looked like. After I got home and saw how ORANGE it was I blew dry and styled it myself. Even after styling it, it was HIDEOUS. It was nothing at all of what I asked, completely one color versus high lights/balayage. The color was all the way up to my roots in the front, but the crown was not colored at all. It looked like a tiger (dark brown and orange). I immediately let her know (through text message - after she asked me for pictures once I got home) that I was unhappy and asking for her to assist. She responded, "it looks so pretty :)". She agreed to fix it a few days later, but the salon was then closed (due to the manager getting covid) and I no longer felt comfortable going to her. I called the salon multiple times asking to speak to a manager, but all the salons (multiple locations, that I called) shared there manager was not in. A really wonderful gentleman at the Green Hills location who was horrified by my story made me an immediate appointment to have a consultation that evening with Taylor. At that appointment, she felt she was able to fix my hair and was confident with that. Her soonest availability was THREE weeks from then, which was insanity for anyone to think it was okay for me to walk around with my hair looking like this for more than 1-2 days. I continued to call other locations of this salon and finally reached someone at the Brentwood location. The receptionist took my information down and shared the manager would call me back tomorrow. She made me a standing appointment at the Brentwood location for a few days later to have my hair fixed. The girl who fixed my hair was really lovely and seemed to know what she was doing, but she did not achieve what I had originally asked for. She even said, "I can't believe ANYONE let you leave the salon looking like this. This should have been fixed that day". She died my hair back to a darker color than my original hair and put minimal high lights into my hair. This service was free after the mess up, but once again it was not what I asked for! I explained to her it was not what I was looking for and she said it would lighten up in the sun. I STILL haven't heard from ANY managers after this horrible experience and had to pay FULL price for this, which was crazy expensive (over $330). I would not recommend this place to even my worst enemies. What a waste of money, time and my beautiful head of hair. I've lost all hope in this hair salon and do not trust them with coloring my hair, which is super unfortunate. Was received with a warm welcome and showed my stylist the hair design I preferred and asked my own products be used. All was done to perfection within 35 min. I had a wash and blow dry. I don't recommend this salon. I've seen Abbi a couple times and had an appt with her a week ago. I was going to be a few minutes late due to a work meeting that ran over, and when I was almost there she cancelled my appt. I totally understood because I was a little late, so I went ahead and booked another appt a week later. I arrived 5 min before my appt time only to find out that they booked me for the wrong time (15-min earlier than what they confirmed to me on the phone). Once again, she cancelled my appt. I am one of those people that just hates getting haircuts. It never looks quite what I want it to, and that's partly because I don't know how to describe it correctly. I've tried showing people pictures of what I want, etc. It's just never exactly what I want. I had never gotten my haircut here before, and I had put it off for a while because of COVID. I feel like they sanitized everything and even kept a limited amount of people in the building at one time; you have to wait in your car until they call you and tell you to come in. This was my first time at this salon. I'm giving them 2 stars because my roots were lifted well, but I didn't get the service that I booked for & my overall experience was disappointing. EDIT: Just ran my fingers through my hair & saw my roots on the side of my head. Pictures are now included. The first few moments of interacting with my stylist, she kept asking me why I wanted a full highlight (what I booked). I understand the need to be informative with clients regarding hair health, but I've been blonde for years now & have had many different experiences with bleach/lightener. But she never asked me questions about my hair or about what I've had done in the past. I've never been so questioned about why I wanted what I booked my appointment for, & it was obvious that she had already decided that we were going to do just a partial highlight. Partial is cheaper anyway, so it was fine. She then tells me what the overall cost will be, which added up to almost $100 over the actual price of a partial highlight. I asked her to explain the cost to me, & she said that she usually raises the total when speaking with clients so that they are not surprised when paying, & that it usually never adds all the way up to it. I felt a bit of relief at that. At the end of my appointment though, I am about to pay, & my stylist tells the woman at the desk to add $30 for processing time... this was definitely not mentioned during our discussion about cost earlier. I have never, ever paid for "processing time." I'm not even sure what that means. My total was the partial highlight + $130 ... so, not only did the the cost reach what she said it wouldn't reach, but even MORE was added. Along with the pricing issue, she repeatedly yanked my hair out of the clips when it would get caught, flung hair in my face, & never apologized for any of it. I really don't mind some inconvenience here & there while getting my hair done, but at least acknowledge it & maybe apologize if you're not meaning to hurt your client? I don't know, I just know it was not a good experience for me, & I will not be going back. read more

I moved to Nashville within the last year and was stressed in finding my new hair salon. It is always difficult changing from what you know and my last hairstylist was amazing. Kaylin at Element 12 South, however, immediately made me feel at ease and that I had found my new stylist! I went in with some photo inspiration for ashy blonde highlights/balayage and wanted to try out "shadow roots". I have been going to Element Salon 12th South now for about a year, since I moved to Nashville. I previously lived in a bigger city and had a hair stylist I loved, so I was very nervous to have to find a new place to go. I have had a range of services here, from balayage to simple hair cuts, and I've never had a bad experience. Even one time when the blond I got in my brunette hair didn't turn out just right, the stylist worked to correct it for free, and after one quick touch up, it was perfect. I had been avoiding the salon since COVID, but I went this week for the first time since March and felt completely safe. You wait in your car until they call you, they check your temperature, number of customers are limited, everyone has on masks, and there's screens between each station. My girlfriend had a TERRIBLE experience with Abbi. Do not use her under any circumstances. She was bullied into changing the type of cut she wanted, treated poorly through the whole highlighting process and charged far over what she was originally told it would cost. They added a "processing fee" and would not explain what it was for, along with charging over $100 MORE than she was told it would cost. Well over $200 for a partial highlight. And on top of that it was a terrible job, as shown below. She had to go get her hair fixed the next day at a different location it was done so poorly. I am not one of those peoples to ever leave a review- however after my first visit to this salon I wanted to warn others before going. Not only was my stylist rude, I came in with a specific picture of blonde highlights. I have been getting blonde highlight for years (with toner and olaplex) I am not unaware of the cost of highlights and the other services that come with it. Not only did "baby lights" and toner/olaplex cost $400, it looks terrible. The babylights were not left on long enough to process and I can still see quite a large chunk of my roots. She got the perfect color and placement for all the highlights. I have straight hair so it was really important that it blends well when not styled and she did just that. It looks so natural! I recently moved to Nashville from San Francisco, where I paid top dollar for color/highlights at a number of high end hair salons, with mixed results. I was very happy with my last colorist and worried about finding someone comparable in Nashville. However, I am happy to report that LC vastly exceeded my expectations! She gave me beautiful, natural-looking brunette base color + caramel-y highlights, and I couldn't be happier with the result. I have a few annoying grays that had in the past proven stubborn, but I haven't noticed any since seeing LC. It's been about a month since my appointment and my color is still looking fresh. I booked this appointment online based off reviews I had read on Yelp, and needless to say that this salon is everything and more! The staff are super friendly, greeting you upon arrival and offering beverages. I was even given a $10 off coupon for my next visit! The atmosphere was hip and modern but not so much that you felt uncomfortable. I was called two days prior to my appointment requesting that I come in for a complimentary consultation, I couldn't make it since I live about 45 minutes from the salon. Instead I sent them pictures of my hair and described what I would like done, they were very flexible and seemed appreciative that I had done so. Josh was my stylist and I have never been so impressed with the fun yet professional way he worked with me on what I wanted. He showed me pictures of color that he had done in the past and told me exactly what he thought my hair would do. I was requesting a difficult white/silver trend that seems to intimidate a lot of stylists, but not Josh! At the end of my appointment he recommended that I make a follow up appointment for three weeks later to make sure the color was exactly what I wanted (and that I could call and cancel if I didn't feel the need to come). I was in and out within two hours and I feel fabulous! I will DEFINITELY be back. read more
