I honestly hate leaving negative reviews, but I left pretty disappointed with this experience. I went in asking for a very minimal cleanup and specifically said not to touch too much on the top because I've been growing my hair out for the last 6 months. Unfortunately, way more length got taken off than I wanted. It basically feels like I'm back in the awkward in-between growing stage again instead of just getting a fresh cleanup. I'll also be honest and say I should've probably spoken up more during the haircut, but I'm not really confrontational and at the time I was trying to trust the process. Once I got home, styled it myself, and looked at it properly, I realized one side was noticeably longer than the other too. They did offer to fix it afterward, which I appreciate, but the problem wasn't really something that could just be corrected because too much hair had already been cut off at that point. The other thing that honestly threw me off was the pricing situation. I was quoted $50-$70 on the phone, but ended up being charged $85 before tax and tip. Later I was told it was an accidental overcharge. Maybe it genuinely was, but combined with everything else, it just made the whole experience feel a bit off to me. Made an appointment to get my hair bleached over the phone and detailed to the receptionist that I had dark hair with inches of outgrowth. Showed up to my appointment and the stylist said they couldn't do my hair because the receptionist had me down for one process. I appreciate the stylist not wanting me to leave with banana hair. I followed my stylist, Jen Deaderick from another salon in Green Hills to this salon at 12 South when it opened. I have always been a fan of hers; she is honest and will tell you if she doesn't think a style will work for you, and will find one that you love. She is great with subtle shadings of color, layering low and highlights on a base color to give you a textured, realistic look. At least, that is what I like. I know if you wanted a purple stripe, she'd be able to conjure that up as well. She has taken me through several different lengths over the years, and I have always been happy with them, even though I have "difficult" hair (thick, crazy wavy). The only negative about Jen is that she is so popular that you have to make an appointment about 4-5 weeks out. Which, once you get one, isn't that bad. Just be sure to make your next appointment when you pay for the one you just had. The salon itself is very pleasant, with an open feel and a large floor to ceiling window taking up most of the front wall. (I think this was a garage in another lifetime.) It is a nice size, not tiny but intimate enough to feel like you aren't being processed. They offer water, coffee or tea, and also have Vosges chocolate available for purchase. Green Pea is located in the heart of 12 South, so after getting your hair done it can be fun to meet friends at any of the restaurants close by (think Burger Up, directly across the street, or Sloco or even Las Paletas) to show off your newly sophisticated looking self. I have never had a problem finding parking in their lot. read more

Just moved to Nashville and on a whim decided to get my hair CHOPPED...which is always a scary experience. I didn't spend a lot of time searching for 'the right' salon - I was just going to go to the first place that had an opening that day. I called at 9:30am and was able to get a 10am appointment with Cindy - which was perfect because it left me no time to change my mind! First of all; the salon is ADORABLE. Right on 12th, it's a perfect location. Cindy, my stylist was great. I have very high maintenance hair and she addressed all of the issues I have with it. My cut and color was $140 which I thought was reasonable considering the last minute appointment time and the finished product - which I was beyond pleased with. I sent a picture of my new 'do to my dad and he showed the rest of the family and even some of his work friends - I've been getting rave reviews! I also purchased shampoo, conditioner and a few B&B styling products. Love B&B, think it's a great line to carry! read more

She is very patient, doesn't rush, and you can tell she always puts in 100% effort because she enjoys what she does. In other words, Sophia is the opposite of most other stylists. I really really wanted to like this salon, but after a string of bad experiences, I just cannot give it a great review. 1. A friend had recommended a specific stylist to me, but when I called to make an appointment, that stylist didn't have any openings for several weeks. I asked if anyone was good with short hair and they recommended another stylist to me. I advised that I would need both a cut and a color. When I got to the salon for my appointment, they had only scheduled me for a cut. The stylist didn't have time to color me and I would have to come back to have my hair colored. I don't have a bunch of time to come back to a salon on multiple occasions! This is SO inconvenient, but decided that getting a cut was better than nothing at all, so got my hair cut. 2. I actually liked the cut I got, but didn't really care for the stylist. She kept on yelling at me that I was moving my head to much and would physically jerk it back into the place she wanted. I am 35 years old and have probably had 100's of hair cuts in my life. I know how to get a hair cut and have NEVER had a stylist treat me this way. I kind of just wanted her to hurry up and finish so I could get out of there. 3. When I left, I made the appointment for the color. However, a few days later the salon called me and said that the stylist who was suppose to color my hair is no longer with the salon and asked if I could make an appointment with another stylist. Of course, no one was available that week so I had to wait yet an additional week to color my hair. I told them to make sure to note that my hair is short so I would only need a partial highlight. 4. Of course when I showed up for my appointment, they had me down for a full highlight. I don't know why it is so hard for this salon to get anything right! They are in the business of customer service and basically every single time I tried to do anything with them, they messed it up in some way. The girl who colored my hair did a fine job, but she hardly spoke two words to me. I told her I had just moved to town and she didn't even ask me any personal questions about where I moved from, etc. You don't have to be my best friend, but in my experience normally your hair stylist at least attempts to get to know you. Or at least be friendly. 5. So chances are, I will never return to this salon. Their services are fine - my hair looks good. But with all the other salons and stylists in this town, why would I go to a salon that can't seem to make appointments correctly, and have stylists that aren't friendly? I will be taking my business elsewhere unfortunately. read more

Although Green Pea is a Goldwell salon, that's about all the good I can say. I tried several cutters at the 12 S. location and over on Charlotte. I have fine, thin hair that's not straight or curly. I always tell them from the outset, "No razoring. That doesn't work well with my hair. You need to point cut it if we are layering." One cutter started razoring the back anyway and when I protested, she said, "Just razoring the back." Another simply used the scissors like a razor, which gives the SAME effect. On fine, thin hair, it shatters the hair shaft. Even kids at the Aveda school in Cool Springs know this. When I finally got a cutter who didn't razor it, he also didn't cut it for crap and I ended up with one long piece at the top of the crown that I could not figure out what to do with. If your hair is healthy, thick and you like to be razored, this is your place. read more

I had decided that I needed to find a local stylist and since I frequent the 12 south neighborhood The Green Pea Salon looked promising. Huge mistake. I called to get an appointment and requested a great colorist. I met for a consultation and felt confident after asking a few specific questions. How long have you colored hair? Answer "seven years". My hair is naturally dark so it takes patience to lighten it without it turning red. Do you think you can lift it without letting it turn red? Answer "absolutely". So I made an appointment and I showed up excited to have my hair done.We decided that I would get chocolate base with blonde highlights. Didn't happen not even close. When she was done my hair was three colors. from the crown back chocolate brown exactly as I wanted. Crown forward she had colored it a coppery (red) color with yellow highlights. Once it was blown out it was brassy and just looked burnt. I was shocked but kept my composure. I had never had some thing so bad happen to me in a salon. She could tell I was unhappy. She kept trying to get me to let her cut my hair. All I could think is "if this is what she did to my color what the heck would she do with a pair of scissors?". We agreed that I would give it the weekend to see what I thought of it. On my way out I saw an acquaintance getting her hair done. She commented on my hair and I told her I disliked it. Both the acquaintance and her stylist seemed embarrassed by my bluntness. I felt bad for saying that I was unhappy but at this point it was all I could do not to cry. I paid the $200.00 bill for a color that I disliked immensely and I tipped 35.00. I normally tip minimum twenty percent ($40.00). I was raised to tip so it was just inherit for me to do so. Big mistake. What I should have done was ask to speak with the owner immediately. Like I said i was trying not to cry and just wanted to leave. I gave it the weekend and as I suspected it just got brassier and I just felt horrid. Not what you want after you've just spent $200.00. I called and left a message on monday (the salon was closed). I received no reply on tuesday by wednesday I felt compelled to follow up again. I was informed by the receptionist that my colorist had received my message and she'd call me back 'whenever she get's to it". Later that day the colorist did call me and offered to "fix' my hair. Since it was wednesday we had to set the "fix" it appointment for the correction the following week. To "fix" my hair she put a toner on it. It looked like a bad home die job by the time she 'fixed" it. One that I had paid $200.00 for. At this point I had a family emergency and left for Portland Oregon. When I got back to town I sent an email requesting a refund as I had no confidence that the colorist could truly correct my hair. This time I got a response almost immediately. No refund possible but the owner wanted to meet with me in person. When I went in the owner never apologized or sympathized even after I told him i was mortified and felt like crying. He did make sure to tell me that I was wrong and that my hair was never red. Please bare in mind that from the first day of my initial color to this meeting people I knew kept asking me why I had decided to go copper,red and one joker even asked "why orange"?. The owner did agree to schedule an appointment to correct my hair since I was not available immediately to sit and have my hair "corrected". We set the appointment for the following week. I discovered I had a work conflict and called to reschedule. The receptionist informed me that the owner had no openings until the new year. By this point it had been dragging on two plus months I was mortified by the state of my hair and just felt bullied by the salon. I asked to speak with the owner. He wasn't available but would call me back . When he called me back I wasn't available (I work as well and am not always in a position to answer my phone). He never left a message. He did however send me a curt email here is a direct cut and paste " I called twice last week with no answer. I had a consultation with you to talk about the color you call red and a copper penny. Not at all. With 3 other stylist seeing your hair agreeing that it was right. You contacted us 5 weeks later to say its faded to red. No red. We have fulfilled our end. I feel your not gonna be happy. We just aren't a fit. Maybe you should try another salon." Im not sure what three stylists he's referring to as he and the 'colorist' where the only two people who touched my hair and spoke with me directly. In effect he's lying. With the exception of when I had a family emergency in Oregon I did consistently follow up in a timely fashion. So $235.00 dollars gone and feeling by this point abused I filed to contest the charge with my bank. I know that I will not win but I just wanted to stand up for myself. I just started going here about a year ago. My former stylist whom I loved just kept moving! Studio Gaven-EyeCandy-Platinum(in EAST nashville way 2 far). I couldn't take it and the bill was becoming well over $200 with zero atmosphere and it took her 3hrs to do my hair. So one of my friends who has AMAZING hair told me about Kristen. She use to work at Fruition but moved to Green Pea Salon (where Bloke was) on 12th ave. Its a smaller salon that uses the best products ever. After two visits I have total faith in her. So many of my friends have started going because she is just that good. For highlights (3 colors), cut and style it was $160 which I felt was amazing. Perfect atmosphere, great people, fabulous hair. It's a big deal for me to commit to a hair stylist. No really. When I moved to Nashville and up until I met Cindy at Green Pea I had been to I think four other places. Three out of the four other places were okay, the one that was a total failure also happened to the priciest. Green Pea is convenient to my work and Cindy has openings at times that work for me. She doesn't take 9 hours to make my hair perdy either, which I appreciate. Every time I've come to Green Pea I've felt welcomed and comfortable. Sometimes in fancy salons I feel totally out of place, like my purse isn't expensive enough to match the $300 smock they've snapped around my neck. Green Pea is modern and super cool but without a pretentious atmosphere and snooty people. Cindy has styled my hair at least 4 times now and every time was awesome and I was done in under an hour (usually around 45 minutes). I have fine limp hair and sometimes I can be quite specific about my bangs, but every time it comes out exactly how I've imagined it. I think you just have to find the right person, the person who you can communicate with about what you're looking for and I guess Cindy is my person. She's also not an incessant talker, we talk for sure but not the entire time and not with filler conversation about dumb things. I really appreciate that too. I also find her pricing very reasonable, especially as a returning client. My only beef is that they are a Bumble & Bumble salon, and I generally avoid any synthetic products on my body (or in it for that matter) but goshdarnit B&B makes my hair look really good for a couple of days. I just moved to the area and needed a major overhaul on my hair -- it's thick and frizzy and I wear it in a long bob and my previous stylists had struggled to sufficiently lighten / thin my hair in such a way that it was actually a cute cut. I went there several times and had a stylist I loved, BUT (a) she took maternity leave and didn't mention it to me; (b) the girl on the phones made me an appointment with her in spite of the fact she wouldn't be there when the date rolled around; and (c) I cancelled my useless appointment (with my stylist who wouldn't even be there) and tried someone else in the salon who had no personality, acted like I was interrupting her life, and oh yeah gave me a crap cut/color. I had an unfortunate hair experience at a nearby Nashville salon where my hair was turned copper red instead of the light blonde it was supposed to be. (Toner mishap when trying to put in low lights) The stylist tried to fix it herself 3 separate times before I gave up and tried a new salon and stylist. Rachel at green pea salon did a color correction saved my hair! I LOVE my hair now. I've been going to Rachel for a year now and couldn't be happier with the way she cuts and colors my hair. I'm never going anywhere else now that I found this place. The staff is always friendly, I love the products they sell and I've been getting so many compliments on my color which makes every girl feel good. Green pea is By far the most unprofessional salon I've ever visited. Not sure where to start my review, possibly with the worst color job I've had, the manager who has been in the business for a whole two minutes but knows everything, or how unfair it would be for them to refund my money when I'm obviously unhappy. Maybe it's because of the location or poor management that allows them to treat their customers so horribly, who knows, but I would absolutely NEVER recommend this place to anyone, for any reason. Sophia did a fantastic color retouch and added a little of her own creativeness to my red hair, which I loved. She also gave me a fantastic cut. She is very conscientious and professional. I look like me, only better! This place is warm and welcoming from the moment you open the door. A woman I know referred me to one of their stylists who was booked something like 6 months out. That turned out to be a happy problem because I found Sasha! The super-helpful Madeline at the front desk recommended him as a stylist who was able to work with my fine hair and give it an effortless style. She was right! His background is as a sculptor and it shows in his eye for shape and style. I feel like he 'designs' my hair. I actually told him one time that "I want my hair to 'feel' different on this side". I love this salon because the front desk staff are super friendly and my stylist, Paula, was great too. The first thing I loved was walking in to the most wonderful holiday fragrance. It was a pleasant surprise to me that they had a great selection of candles for sale, hair products and my favorite chocolates, Vosges. The staff offered me a nice cup of pumpkin spice coffee. It's an elegant salon without being stuffy. I was only there for a hair trim, but I definitely plan to return. I love to support businesses that make the extra effort for their customers.
