We recently visited Element in Sutter Creek for a special occasion and ended up giving it mixed reviews. The mimosas were fantastic and at $6, honestly a steal. They kept them coming once we asked, and they were delicious every time. But we had to keep asking, and at one point, we almost gave up. That said, the service was pretty underwhelming, especially since the restaurant wasn't busy. We waited close to 20 minutes before getting our first drinks, even water. We had noted a special occasion on our reservation, but there wasn't really anything that made it feel acknowledged or special. We shared the skillet, and unfortunately it was extremely soggy. We literally poured liquid out of it multiple times. On the flip side, the lemon poppyseed waffle was a solid 10/10 and definitely the standout food item for us. I'm giving 3 stars because there's clearly potential here. The drinks were great, the waffle was amazing, and I do think this place could easily be a 5-star experience with more attentive service and a little more consistency in the kitchen. In short: -Cute little restaurant attached to a hotel -Food was okay - hit or miss. -Service was not great. - parking very limited- 6 spot? And technically only for hotel guests. I was excited to try this place as I was in town for a wedding and it had good reviews. It has potential but unfortunately today was a let down. My vegan friend had gone the night before and enjoyed her peanut noodle bowl with tofu! So that's good apparently) So we had high hopes but when we went today before 10am they were out of black beans for the one vegan option for my friend and didn't offer to make it without or anything it was painful to watch and to eat in front of her. Lattes looked good. My boyfriend is not picky but said the house coffee was average and got the All Sutter Creek- bacon eggs and toast and it just looked sad. Bacon was burnt, wheat toast was small and looked like cheap wonderbread. Eggs were fine but nothing better then we have at home he said. I got the Handford Benedict and it looked good but tasted strange. I didn't like the hollandaise sauce, it was tangy. Eggs were cooked well and potatoes were good, but overall with prosciutt ( meh), steamed unseasoned spinach and goat cheese made it too tangy. Hot sauce made it edible. French toast looked yummy with a nice amount of fruit on top and my friend seemed to enjoy it. I don't think I'd come back since the food is so unpredictable. A few things to fix - the bench seat wobbled whenever anyone moved at the other end, and the hot sauce wooden cap needs to be glued on! - it keep turning and comes off and gets glue in peoples food and looks gross underneath. Came here for Sunday brunch with the girls after our hike. We decided to get a few items so we could try a little bit of everything. I saw chilaquiles on the menu and immediately had to get them. They did not disappoint! It came with both red and green salsa which is good if you're indecisive like me. For something sweet, we shared their French toast with fresh fruit. It was almost too pretty to eat! The dish that surprised me the most was their vegan breakfast bowl. It's a tofu scramble with tomato masala chutney and it's full of different flavors. The only thing that was just okay was the omelette probably because of the goat cheese. I'm just not a big goat cheese lover. read more

I've always loved this spot, but I'm starting to have second thoughts after our last two visits. Both were incredibly disappointing. The Brussels sprouts were served raw on skewers, and the dessert was so frozen I couldn't even get a fork through it. ​As locals, we usually love recommending this place, but we've heard the quality dip might be due a change in the kitchen, but mostly due to the owner becoming absentee lately. It's a shame because the wait staff is still working incredibly hard and clearly takes pride in their service. I hope they can turn things around soon. read more

We love it here. We walked in at 5:00 and sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed chatting with the bartender and hostess. I had a delicious gin, basil cocktail. My husband and I split the double smash burger and fries, and it was the perfect amount! Burger was juicy and well seasoned with a tasty sauce and crisp pickles. Fries were excellent. It's not closed! Just re-opened for dinner recently! The veggie lasagna is delicious and so are the scallops. There is a salad on the menu which was particularly good- it was arugula and citrus with fennel. I thought it would be really acidic or something, but the flavors were perfectly balanced and delicious. Loved it. read more

We were in town visiting & we were looking for a breakfast /brunch restaurant. Reservation made & it was AWESOME! This place was the absolute cutest . It was kind of farmhouse , modern vibe. I love the simplicity of the decor, Our server was Hannah B. & she was very friendly & upbeat & the most beautiful smile we definitely enjoyed our dining experience w/ this young Lady ! We would honestly just back to see her. The food was delicious & hot , very well presented on the plate . I have to say that the waffles were an interesting combination but was delighted by the flavors lemon waffle w/ macerated strawberries , chopped pistachios, basil & homemade whipped cream. Nice little restaurant. My husband ordered an Americano, eggs, potatoes, and toast. I ordered a Monte Cristo. Highlights: Eggs were pretty. Potatoes were good. Meh: The Monte Cristo was lukewarm with way too much raspberry preserves. The french toast bread had good flavor except it was soggy in the middle like it needed to cook longer. This is our second visit after the opening post covid. Have been more times than our original review. Service is laid back and takes time. So don't be in a hurry. We travel with our dog. Dog friendly is important. Outdoor seating is available for us and dog. Relatively large patio. Food....omelet with caramelized onions, bacon, spinach and goat cheese was great. This was a huge disappointment. We were referred here by a friend so we were hoping for a great experience. We came in on Saturday morning at 8:02 am, they open at 8 am. There was 1 table seated and the rest of the restaurant was empty. There were 3 employees working and not one of them was smiling, acknowledged us or said good morning. One of them asked if we had a reservation and when I said no, he and another lady spent a couple of minutes looking through the computer. Literally there was 1 table seated and you don't know if you can seat us? He then takes us to a table. The restaurant is clean inside. We ordered coffee and a mimosa. My husband ordered the All Sutter Creek plate and I ordered the breakfast sandwich with the vegan sausage. The Sutter Creek plate was good, except he ordered sourdough toast and they brought him wheat toast. My sandwich was good, except there was a lot of the aioli so the ingredients were sliding around the bun making it hard to eat. But the flavor was good. Overall the food was good but the service was very disappointing. It felt like a very cold environment instead of a welcoming place that makes you want to stay and eat. This is a spot we always drive by on the way to another favorite restaurant. I haven't been back home in a while so I suggested let's try something new -- and we were pleasantly surprised! Everything we ate was exceptional. Service was lovely. They apologized that the only table they had available was outside, but it was a fantastic summer night. We would have chosen outside anyway. I don't usually leave reviews, but this was not a good experience. From the moment we walked in, we did not feel welcome. No one greeted us at the door. After a few minutes, someone finally came over, but instead of saying hello, they asked if we had a reservation. We did. Even though there were many open tables, they spent a long time looking at a tablet before seating us. It's decently busy, it being Sunday morning, but not terribly crowded. The woman looking where to seat us, walked past us without saying anything, put menus on a table, and then came back. We sat there assuming she meant it was for us, since she didn't say anything. We sat there for a few minutes before someone finally came to pour us water. I said "hi" to the server, and she didn't respond at all. She just walked away. At that point, my boyfriend and I felt uncomfortable and decided to leave. As we walked out, the staff just stared at us. No one asked if something was wrong or tried to talk to us. Sadly, this isn't the first time we've felt unwelcome at a local place where we're both from. It really felt like we just didn't fit their vibe or weren't their typical type of customer. We have been going there for years and it had always been a 5 star experience. Great food and service... always a unique spin on mainstream dishes. We moved out of the area and just went back after a couple years for Sunday brunch. We were sadly underwhelmed. Service was fine... but the food was off. Not horrible... but less than we expected. The Benedict ordered had good poached eggs, but the sauce was skimpy and the sourdough bread was very tough to cut for the dish. My Americano tasted like strong day old coffee.... So, a bit disappointing. The mimosa was good and on special. My French Toast was OK, but the raspberry preserves were just kind of glopped on and not appealing. Taste was fine... just not very warm. We both enjoyed the potatoes... best part of the meal. Anyway (like I said) not horrible... just less than we were used to. We were guessing maybe new owners or new chef. As an update....we've now had numerous breakfasts here. Fantastic. And the dinners continue to be our go to.

Kind of a mixed bag for us this visit... There were aspects of the meal that were great. Service was prompt and courteous. As for the food, the arancini was excellent and the arrabbiata sauce comforting with just a hint of heat. The shrimp and grits were very good with a generous amount of shrimp on a bed of creamy polenta. My wife's fried chicken sandwich, however, was served burnt, requiring her to remove most the breading. Cocktails were particularly disappointing - very weak and seemingly devoid of alcohol. I ordered a Scotch +2 that was served in a low ball glass filled to the brim with ice chips that couldn't have had more than an ounce of any liquid, mostly mixer. The following morning's breakfast order was placed with the front desk the night before and was wrong when served. We will likely give Element another try down the road. I see a lot of positive reviews, so I'll hope for more attention to detail on our next visit. read more

Element Element is a small-town restaurant that delivers a big city brunch. Located on Main St just as you're turning into town, the modern, steel sign stands out in a town that otherwise announces itself on quaint hand painted wood. We stayed a The Sutter Creek Inn just down the street and were able to walk to the restaurant. If you're driving, there is a small parking lot, but you may need to go a little further for street parking if they're busy. Their space is really cutely decorated, and it has big windows so the whole cafe is full of natural light. I really loved the feel of the place. There was no wait, and we were seated right away. The menu is small but covers all of the brunch basics, and they even have some quirky twists on the usual classics such as fruity pebble dipped French toast. We went the more familiar route and got an eggs Benedict and breakfast tacos. They were both delicious. The food was delicious and flavorful. The coffee was good- above diner standard. My only wish was that they offered dinner service on the weekends, but until they do, they are a great option for brunch if you're in Amador wine country. read more

There were five or six servers standing around some on their phones and our server was running around like a chicken. Staying at the sutter creek inn for a wedding, we chose this cute restaurant for breakfast. Within walking distance, this restaurant t had great staff, beautiful lighting and was so clean and cute. There is also outdoor dining, I saw someone out there eating with their dog (so cute). We ate here two days in a row! The menu was small but mighty. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. We ordered the omelette and waffles the first day, the Benedict and the French toast the next. The waffles were Belgian style (my favorite) with fresh fruit and delicious whip. They even serve the syrup over a small candle to keep it warm! Such a great touch. The iced latte's were so flavorful and refreshing, the coffee was definitely in higher standards than any breakfast joint I've been too. The open, airy space provides a lovely environment, and the service is friendly and efficient. I guess I was a bit surprised by my food. The chicken was wonderful--cooked perfectly and seasoned well--but the basil risotto was lacking in flavor, and there was so much much of it that it looked like it was glopped on the plate. It was also underseasoned, a rare critique of mine since I prefer less rather than more salt, and I could barely taste the basil. I also was surprised that I couldn't sub out the risotto with the roasted carrots, since I can't eat a lot of dairy. It's a place I might be willing to try again, but my expectations will be adjusted accordingly. read more

We went here expecting a great dinner. I am Gluten intolerance. There menu had GF options. I picked the meat and potatoes GF option. The waitress said she would omit the French fries? Shocked, I said nothing. In a nice restaurant for $38.00 I would never expect fries as the potato option. I asked for mashed potatoes. She said no we will just not give you fries? $38.00 for a flat iron steak and asparagus? I ordered my steak to be between medium and medium rare. The steak came rare rto medium rare. I would call it rare. I asked to speak to the manager. She only works Monday- Friday. I asked if she could call me. Nope. Well never go to this dive. As a hotel guest, we enjoyed the convenience of an in house restaurant. But oh this place is so much more than convenient, the meal was the highlight of our weekend! We enjoyed a very generously poured glass of wine from a local tasting room at the bar (Baiocchi - we will visit on our next trip!) And had a lovely table by the window where we could see the rain reflection of the twinkle lights outside. I enjoyed the beet salad that was so full of flavor and beets that my hubby was happy to help my finish. He said his pork chop, which he devoured was equally yummy! read more
