If Michelin knew about Plymouth, California they would put a star here! Established in 1871 and incorporated in 1917, originated as a Gold Rush mining town originally known as Pokerville or Puckerville. Centered around the productive Plymouth Consolidated Mine, it became a key hub for quartz mining, later evolving into the "Gateway to the Shenandoah Valley" for its renowned wine region. Taste is in the heart of downtown. With two menus and seating areas (the dining room or bar) you must order off the menu where you sit (no cross ordering which is great). Sit at the bar for the bar menu or sit in the dining room for a fixed price menu only but with fantastic choices and you can even get multiple section dishes which they scale down the generous size of a single dish so you can try more food (genius strategy). We were celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary and we went all out like I hit the lottery (don't we all wish?). I started out with the caviar service which came with these incredible potato cakes rather than the usual mini Bellinis. Then we had oysters on the half shell, perfectly shucked, clean and no grit. Nothing ruins an oyster experience like a grit of shell or sand. None of that here! My photos show the entire meal which rivaled many restaurants I have been to in San Francisco. This is a Michelin level dinner but at a reasonable price considering the portions (LARGE) unlike The French Laundry where you get 80% less food for 75% higher prices. This is a place not to miss and is now my #1 pick for January 2026 for a high end quality meal with white glove service in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. I will be returning to check the bar menu which has completely different food. The menu will change so what I listed might not be on the menu but the Mushroom Cigars have always been on the menu for years. It clearly is a crowd pleaser and there is nothing here to critique other than you want to just keep eating! 5 Stars 1 Michelin Star (needs to be awarded here in my book!)

Great find in the Plymouth downtown area. Talk about a hidden gem but apparently this is a really popular restaurant amongst the locals. Great food, but with a warm ambiance. We came in during lunch on a Saturday and they were quite busy. We weren't very hungry so opted for the taste burger with truffle fries and their sweet potato soup. They split everything in half to our surprise. The soup was very light and delicious. Couldn't tell it was made of sweet potatoes. The burger was very juicy and tasty with the hint of smokiness along with the sweetness of the bacon jam. Can't wait to return and try their dinner menu.

Excellent service and delicious food! My husband made dinner reservations at Taste to celebrate my birthday. Taste offers a prix fixe menu for dinner with the options to choose between 3 or 5 courses. We opted for the 3 courses. If you don't care for a dessert, you could swap the dessert for another appetizer, which we did. My husband also added the wine pairing. We ordered the mushroom bruschetta, persimmon and pomegranate salad, mushroom cigar as our 1st course. For our main course, we got the short rib and the seared cod. And for dessert, we shared the chocolate and olive oil cake. All the dishes were delicious!! The fish was cooked perfectly. We also enjoyed the warm sourdough and ciabatta bread that were served with olive oil at the start of the meal. Our server, Deanna, was wonderful. She had a very kind demeanor about her that made our overall dinner experience exceptional. The other staff were all very friendly as well. Would definitely recommend Taste for any occasion!

Every year we celebrate my BFF's birthday in a new town and a different eating establishment This past birthday was no different as we flew and drove to Taste, in Plymouth CA, in Amador County.. Here is my story: Not sure what other eating establishment they are in the area but Taste was certainly the right choice. Why? Because the food was excellent, the service was even better and the chef paid a visit to our table of 6. You will need reservations or you may end up waiting. Dining at the small bar is a real IF. Their menu is pre fixe with a couple selection and choices for your appetizer, entree and dessert. So, make your reservation and go dine there if you're in the area. Note Plymouth is about an hour's drive east from Sacramento. Oh, with a small corkage fee, you can bring you own bottle of wine(s), afterall you are in wine country

My wife and I and two of our best friends had lunch here while wine tasting in the area. Excellent food, service and ambiance! We had a great time! Very good burger and fries! This is a must try for lunch! We will be back to try dinner here shortly! Our waiter was excellent, however I forgot his name!!

What a wonderful find! On a Halloween venture first to Apple Hill and then stopping in Plymouth, California for a bite before the Haunted Forest, and trying to decipher the best place to eat we stumbled upon Taste. In driving by, I wasn't sure if we were dressed appropriately. We were warmly welcomed, and the overall interior and window ambiance with lighting was very elegant. We were informed that there are two options a multicourse dining experience in the actual restaurant and bar seating where one can mix and match from within the courses, as well as light bites. We opted by the window seat (a truly great seat)! Every staff member there was truly wonderful, I can tell they value customer services it definitely showed in the interactions. Since it was an apple hill day, (lots to sample) we opted to share a burger and the staff served it as if it was two separate orders. Very thoughtful. We ordered the Taste burger which included bacon jam, goat cheese aoli and truffle fries. A true masterpiece for the palate. I along with my friend ordered the Chata, which was Rum based with horchata and Amaretto. Wow! Definitely a great drink! It was definitely a dining experience to remember and definitely circle back to trying again.

This remains one of my absolute favorite restaurants in California. It has consistent quality, exceptional service, and always a casual yet upscale flair. It would easily compete with any Bay Area or LA restaurant and, frankly, in my humble opinion, deserves a Michelin star. I came here for a milestone birthday, and it was perfection, as always. The waiter remembered us from before, and we had a delightful conversation about our favorite SF restaurants. The place was packed to capacity, servers were scurrying around, yet polished and on top of it. I had a Purple Dream Margarita cocktail to start. A bit sweet with coconut milk and triple sec, it was beautiful to look at... and the only new picture I include now. My hubby had a Bobo sour, which I tried, and it was delicious! This time, I decided to try entirely different things from my usual picks off the five course menu. I wasn't disappointed. First, I had the corn soup, which was a knockout, so smooth, creamy, and flavorful. I didn't hold high hopes for a corn soup, yet they surprisingly raised it to new heights. From there, I went on to have the pork schnitzel. Bars of crusted pork, it was good, yet I thought the meat was a bit on the dry side. The next course was a tuna, in small rounds on a bed of corn and other accompaniments, which was absolutely delightful. The tuna was the best I ever had. So good. The next course was the scallops, which was very good but with a strange combination of peppers and other items that almost overpowered the scallops, yet it didn't. I was, again, pleasantly surprised. It always amazes me the quality of the menu items and the creativity involved. Some people reviewing this place criticize the size of the portions given here. Well, in my view, as a big eater, if you leave here hungry or find the portions small for the price, then skip this and go to Applebee's. It's cheaper. To wash it down, I had a glass of sparkling rose, which I found to be just OK, a bit sweet for me. For dessert, I chose the Summer 'Cobbler' with fresh berries, vanilla ice cream, and a cookie. It was very refreshing. They discreetly placed a small chocolate bar with a "happy birthday" on the plate. No fanfare, big production of singing waiters disturbing everyone else, or giant sombreros and guitars... so nice instead. Taste... excellent dining experience! You'll see us again.

We've been to TASTE a couple of times & we always seemed to get our usual table which it actually is our favorite place to sit in the restaurant . The service at TASTE is always a great dining experience we usually get Matt, we had the pleasure of Bess as our server . Bess truly was an awesome & attentive server & very welcoming & friendly. I also have to mention the best server assistant who is genuinely down to earth young lady named Danielle who is warm & welcoming w/ the most beautiful smile & charming . We split the TASTE burger b/c my husband absolutely loves the bacon jam & we had the asparagus soup definitely a must try ! Dessert we had the decadent chocolate crunch so delicious & cappuccino. Absolutely no complaints the food was phenomenal & it was all delicious. The inside of TASTE is simple but a fine dining vibe but casual w/o being too pretentious. Very charming restaurant. It was our anniversary & we wanted to come out here we were in town b/c we had a wine event in Plymouth so we had a wonderful weekend enjoying all the festivities & having a wonderful lunch to end our anniversary celebration. Thank you TASTE for always an enjoyable dining experience.

SO THIS HAPPENED: Made a reservation for myself on Halloween when the waiter Lucas excellent waiter BTW, asked me what I'd like to order I asked him if he would order and bring me anything he wanted. I had the best time the best meal the best Service and the best people waiting on me Micah the head Chef is very kind man and has very good taste in food I will be back. Everyone should try going out to dinner by themselves to the finest because you get to sit there and not say a word and enjoy all the flavors of the food and the whole atmosphere I feel very blessed. I was the best date ever Thank you TASTE TEAM will be a very memorable story for me

Booked a reservation on recommendation. The restaurant was packed at 7:00 on a Monday night, a good sign. Our cocktails arrived shortly from the well-stocked bar. The ambiance is very classy. The wait staff was professional and friendly at the same time. The restaurant has several options, but predominant is the 3- and 5- course prix-fixe menu. They also had caviar service available, a lobster add-on, and a filet on the menu. We opted for the roast pork, mahi mahi, lobster bisque, and picked beet salad. Everything was extremely well prepared and presented. Tenderest pork I have ever had. For dessert we had mille fuelle and an adult milkshake (Baileys over vanilla ice cream). Corkage is $25, or $20 for a bottle from a local winery. They also earned a Wine Spectator 100 Best Wine Restaurants award. Would highly recommend. We will be back!

They kept them coming once we asked, and they were delicious every time. But we had to keep asking, and at one point, we almost gave up. That said, the service was pretty underwhelming, especially since the restaurant wasn't busy. We waited close to 20 minutes before getting our first drinks, even water. We had noted a special occasion on our reservation, but there wasn't really anything that made it feel acknowledged or special. We shared the skillet, and unfortunately it was extremely soggy. We literally poured liquid out of it multiple times. On the flip side, the lemon poppyseed waffle was a solid 10/10 and definitely the standout food item for us. I'm giving 3 stars because there's clearly potential here. The drinks were great, the waffle was amazing, and I do think this place could easily be a 5-star experience with more attentive service and a little more consistency in the kitchen. We'll definitely give it another try.

I was excited to try this place as I was in town for a wedding and it had good reviews. It has potential but unfortunately today was a let down. My vegan friend had gone the night before and enjoyed her peanut noodle bowl with tofu! So that's good apparently) So we had high hopes but when we went today before 10am they were out of black beans for the one vegan option for my friend and didn't offer to make it without or anything it was painful to watch and to eat in front of her. Lattes looked good. My boyfriend is not picky but said the house coffee was average and got the All Sutter Creek- bacon eggs and toast and it just looked sad. Bacon was burnt, wheat toast was small and looked like cheap wonderbread. Eggs were fine but nothing better then we have at home he said. I got the Handford Benedict and it looked good but tasted strange. I didn't like the hollandaise sauce, it was tangy. Eggs were cooked well and potatoes were good, but overall with prosciutt ( meh), steamed unseasoned spinach and goat cheese made it too tangy. Hot sauce made it edible. French toast looked yummy with a nice amount of fruit on top and my friend seemed to enjoy it. I don't think I'd come back since the food is so unpredictable. A few things to fix - the bench seat wobbled whenever anyone moved at the other end, and the hot sauce wooden cap needs to be glued on! - it keep turning and comes off and gets glue in peoples food and looks gross underneath. I hope this helps you guys improve.
