They have a set, up-front price for a basic cremation and the only added cost was copies of death certificates, which is a state charge anyway. Venice Harris of Elemental was kind, patient my constant questions and arranging my pickup of personal belongings of my brother when I fly into Washington area. Online E-Payment was easy but unfortunately it is the busy time for crematorium in the state of Washington, so cremation was not immediate. Cost for cremation is a standard rate among the crematorium in WA. However, Venice kept me posted every few days on the body arrival, the death certs pickup and cremation. Elemental Cremation exceeded my expectations! I had an unexpected loss of a loved one and this was my first experience with cremation. I am also out of state so coordinating and planning by the staff made it so seamless. I had many questions, yet Eve, Sabrina, and staff were very informative, patient, and compassionate. I called Elemental a year before my mother passed away, because they were on my short list of places that could provide the Aquamation services my mother wanted and they covered the remote Port Townsend area where she resided. (I, myself, live out of the state and was managing things from afar.) Venice answered the phone and did a great job of answering all my detailed questions with amiability and professionalism. She totally sold me on the company. When my mother was days away from dying, I called to confirm the order of events and who needed to make phone calls to Hospice, the coroner, and all that. Again the feedback was very detailed and reassuring. As far as I know, everything went smoothly up in Washington after my mother's wife made the difficult call to Elemental that set everything into action. At that time, the spring of 2023, there was only one Aquamation machine for the entire West Coast, so it was a matter of many days that my mother's body needed to be kept under refrigeration. Elemental's policy was to waive the daily fee that cremation companies typically charge after their initial grace period of three to seven days. During the delay, the funeral director, Sabrina, was gracious about calling me and letting me know how everything was proceeding. When my mother's remains, half of which were shipped to me in California, did not show up on schedule, Sabrina was distressed and again extremely proactive about letting me know exactly what steps she was taking. I was calm and confident that it would all work out and in reality the box came within 24 hours of its original ETA. Only once in all my interaction with Elemental was there a misstep. I mention it because it is always good to remember that a company is governed by laws and policies and is also made up of human beings who have good days and bad days, and who can still be responsive if given the chance. The first time I had contact with Sabrina specifically-- immediately after my mother had passed away--she was very unfriendly and refused to speak with me because I was not my mother's spouse. I explained that I was the one who had made all the arrangements from the beginning and that I would be the one paying the bill. She remained very legalistic and when the phone call was over I felt hurt and angry. After a half hour or so I called her back. I pointed out that I had just suffered the loss of my mother and deserved her compassion even if she was limited by the rules in what she could tell me. Sabrina rose to the occasion, transformed. From that moment on, beginning with a sincere apology, she was genuinely warm and thoughtful in every moment of every phone call. It doesn't get better than that. I can't say enough good things about Elemental. Most importantly, I want to highlight the things that Elemental did NOT do. They did not try to sell me services I didn't want. They did not pander to me or act in an overly solicitous way or try to empathize with me in an insincere or inappropriate way. What they did do was take care of business in a respectful, kind manner with an absolute minimum in cost, effort and fuss. We wanted the simplest, easiest cremation for my dad, who wants his ashes scattered in the Cascades. We had not pre-planned at all. Full disclosure: I was not able to use their services because they did not have the date/time we needed. However, the over-the-top service Elemental's team provided during the planning process warrants this review. Due to cultural reasons, I needed a specific date and time for my mom's cremation and visitation. To add to the complications, we had a very short time frame. Sabrina and Jessica were prompt in providing the details I needed, understanding of my situation, and extremely pleasant to work with. Sabrina would call me back immediately when she had to make other calls to get the answers I needed. After we figured out they didn't have the date/time I needed, she took the time to research and recommend other facilities to call. They also had the most economical pricing. The other funeral service companies I looked at for the exact same services cost at least $5,000+ more. Sabrina and Jessica were by far the most personable and thoughtful people I've talked to out of all the facilities. If it hadn't been for scheduling, I would have utilized their services. read more

At the cremation site, I met Rose who was incredibly supportive and sensitive. Since my husband's death was accidental, it was going to be the first and last time I saw him before cremation. I had a very different experience than most other reviewers. For me, an attempt to get information about the entire process (from retrieving the body of my family member immediately after death through to receiving the ashes following cremation) was extremely difficult. Responses to my questions were very limited and filled with phrases like "taking her (the body) into care" and "sheltering" the body in the refrigeration unit. Perhaps because arrangements had been made by the family prior to her death and there was therefore nothing to sell other than an urn or two, the representative I spoke with was very curt, without any obvious sympathy, and unwilling or unable to provide a comprehensive summary of what would happen and a timeframe for all the events. I found the business representative I spoke with to be unpleasant and unhelpful. I would not return for the life of me. The company could do better and so can you. read more

First of all, writing a review for funeral services? Who does that?! I do I guess, somebody's gotta do it or nobody would ever know to call these guys! I called Jeff on a Wednesday afternoon shortly after my grandfather passed, because I was the one tasked with taking care of his arrangements. I actually called a couple different places to compare prices and get a feel for the person I'd be working with. I have to be honest, going in, I didn't know what to expect. This is only the second time I've ever known anyone close to me pass, let alone make the arrangements. I thought of funeral directors to be money grubbing creepy old men who sit in basements and will take you for everything you got since you are in an emotional mindset. I spoke with Jeff only for a few minutes before I broke down crying and couldn't get words out anymore, so I let him know I would call him back. Now, before I go on about Elemental's review, I just wanted to go over some of the other concerns I had. I was doing a bit of research online, and a lot of places mentioned embalming. Once I had calmed down and had a chance to call around, another place was insistent that we get my grandpa embalmed right away since the viewing wouldn't be until a week or so later. That lady at the other place started ticking off numbers like a car salesman telling me I needed this and that and that. It was pretty similar everywhere I called. They told me I need this and that, when I didn't even know what half the stuff was. I decided that night to go online and do more research, which was a lot easier since I could type out all my questions and email to various places. Honestly, I liked Jeff from the moment I spoke with him, so emailed him my questions. I like direct answers when I ask a question, don't give me your sales pitch. I was very direct with my first email stating exactly what I needed and what was going on. He was one of the few that replied to my liking, not wasting my time and his. I told him I was still deciding whether or not I was going to use his services, and yet he still took the time to answer my questions. After going back and forth a bit via email, I decided to work with him and he made the process so easy! Told me exactly what I needed to do and made sure I had no questions. Our family is traditional Chinese when it comes to funerals, and we chose to have my grandfather cremated. We had tons of crazy request for Jeff, and he patiently put up with all our requests. We really do appreciate all he did for us. I'm not sure if it's easy to dress someone, but my grandma wanted to make sure my grandpa was warm enough when he went into the afterlife, so she provided layers of thermals to dress him in, which Jeff happily helped us with. We also requested the casket be lined with individual origami sized papers, which he had to lay each one out individually, which was also done beautifully. Again, one of my biggest concerns was embalming so that my grandpa would stay "fresh" for the viewing. We were having problems with family from out of country etc., and wasn't sure how long the delay would be. I kept asking about embalming and whether it would be necessary, and Jeff explained to me that it wouldn't. I really appreciated him not taking advantage of us and selling extra services we did not need. We chose to hold our viewing at the crematory facilities, which had a nice little room and set up. There was seating space for about 20 or so people, but we only had about 12 or so. He let us do our thing in there, set up a tribute to our grandfather, and only came out when we asked for him and a few times to see if we needed anything else. Overall, communication was excellent; I chose to do most by email, but he was available in person or over the phone whenever I needed. Convenient office locations by Southcenter and in Bellevue as well. Funny guy too, he picks up on how comfortable you are discussing your loved one and did not once offend us. I referenced something, which I won't say here as it might offend some, and he went with it! Pricing was competitive, I'd say in the lower - middle of the places I looked at. I liked that everything really was upfront and he didn't try to upsell me on services that were not needed. Facilities were nice for smaller gathering. Not much too look at on the outside (commercial), but inside was sufficient. He made sure we were aware of this as well so there wouldn't be a surprise when we arrived. Hopefully, Jeff is still doing what he is doing in 20 years...that would be the soonest I hope to have to contact anyone regarding another funeral! read more

Funeral services seems to be that hidden industry that no one talks about. It's not like there's lots of ways to prepare for those hard decisions. When my stepfather entered hospice the nurse/social worker recommended that we do some research into funeral services and gave us some handouts. I stumbled upon Elemental Cremation & Burial when I was looking at other options that might not have been on the list. Great website, easy to understand. Everything I needed was there. I talked to Jeff on the phone to ask some general questions and he was quite respectful and helpful. Compared to other places that wanted to upsell, he listened to what we needed and was quite realistic. After my stepfather passed, I called and spoke with David who was quite understanding. He helped walk me through the process. Jeff came to hospice that night to pick him up and was very kind, helping my mother with some of the details that needed clarifying. He was very dignified even when the hospice staff were not as helpful as they could have been. Jeff didn't rush us and helped me feel like each question was important. Later that evening he sent an email invoice which allowed us to pay online using the QuickBooks method. I appreciate this locally owned business and the environmentally conscious business they provide. I didn't feel like just another number. I highly recommend Elemental Cremation and Burial. We had used them a few years ago for my father in-law, and found them to be caring and professional. They handled all of the details from the moment we called them, so we did not have to spend a lot of time dealing with funeral homes, etc. Unfortunately, I needed their services again when my wife passed recently. I was at the hospital, and had limited access to the internet, but was able to find them on my phone. I placed a call early in the day, before she passed, and Venice helped take care of all the preliminary details. Later in the day, after it was over, I called her back to let her know the final details. Within 24 hours, they had received the body and begun to make the final arrangements. Every few days, Venice would call and keep me informed of the progress, arranging for the death certificates, etc. It was really comforting to deal with the same person, and not some office flunky, every step of the way, from start to finish. read more
