"Have the day you deserve" said the woman after handing the bag of my beloved mother's cremains in the parking lot of Columbia Funeral Home. "You came at the wrong time" she said when she came out of their garage. I showed her the time in the previous day's reminder email. "That's not from me" she said. I had previously asked her two quick questions. "You have been rude since the beginning" she said. So much for empathy or customer service. I guess they don't have to be concerned about repeat customers. I don't know what her name was since she didn't introduce herself. Following up with their office, they didn't know either. I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for Columbia Funeral Home, and especially for Nichole, who supported our family through the arrangements for my granddaughter, Za'Mani. During one of the most painful moments of our lives, Nichole was a steady and compassionate presence. She offered us a deeply meaningful way to honor Za'Mani -- inviting us to write personal notes and messages that would be cremated with her. This act allowed us to send our love with her in a way that felt intimate, spiritual, and true. It was something we will never forget. What stood out most was the way Nichole held the process. She met us with gentleness, understanding, and a sincere sensitivity to the weight of our grief. Her presence felt warm, grounded, and respectful -- like she truly saw our granddaughter and our family, not just a task to complete. Even with the added complications the funeral home was facing at the time, recovering from arson damage, Nichole remained present, patient, and attentive. Her heart for this work is evident. She brings dignity, respect, and care that goes beyond professionalism -- it is human, empathetic, and real. Her genuine compassion left a lasting impression on my family and we will always be grateful for her role in helping us in transferring our beloved brother to Arizona from Seattle. No one really wants to write a review for cremation, especially when they are dealing with the loss and passing of their mom/best friend. With that said though, I think it's important for people to consider their options even during time of loss and to choose companies that line up with their ideals and values. My mom was on hospice before she passed and their social worker provided me with a few different numbers to call for cremation services. I spoke with a couple of other funeral directors however I wasn't really comfortable with anyone until I spoke with Melissa. I made it a point to ask each funeral director about their belief/support of the LGBTQ community, as my mom was gay and the need to choose a business that understood the importance of loving and treating every person equally, was paramount. Let me be as frank as possible - Melissa is the only person I'd ever want to use for funeral/cremation services. She was incredibly compassionate throughout the whole entire process - and having Kermit (an adorable service dog for the families,) there, made everything more bearable. We called Melissa within an hour of my mom passing and she was there within 30 minutes. We had adorned my mother's body with flowers and Melissa carefully placed each flower back onto my mom's body, once she moved it to the gurney. We were able to view my mom's body a week after she passed and she was dressed in the clothes I had provided them. (And every single flower was still there, decorating her cremation coffin.) Melissa showed such compassion and kindness throughout our time there and never rushed us to hurry our goodbyes. I'd also like to mention that the pricing and services Melissa offered were up front and very clear. She never tried to upsell me on anything, nor was I ever guilted into spending more in order to "prove," my love for my mom etc. (I've seen it happen before and encountered it while researching funeral/burial options for my mom.) Melissa continually notified me at every step in the process. She was also available at any time, to answer any questions or talk about death as a whole. I learned a great deal of info about cremation and I've grown to respect her even more, due to her passion and fight for greener cremations and burial options for the state of Texas. I am so grateful to have met Melissa and honored that she was the person at the helm of my mom's cremation. I could not have asked for a more badass woman - one who's unafraid of pushing the boundaries of what services are available for burials and cremation, even if it means going against the status quo and upsetting an industry that is set in its ways to take advantage of grieving families. read more

Professional, timely, local (doesn't outsource cremation to somewhere else), neighborhood family business (been around for years). Of the 5 places we called, this place was the only place to actually say their condolences, which made the whole process more human and less transactional. read more

Sawyer helped us when our son died unexpectedly. He was very sensitive to the grief we were feeling, very patient in helping us while we considered a number of ways of dealing with the body, including researching our concept of a private burial on our private property as well as the various services that they offered. He recommended a private forensic service to help us understand better the cause of death and held the body at no cost for several weeks while we conducted the research. I have never had to deal with someone passing so close to me, so I was not sure where to even begin with this process. I have had friends and family who have used Columbia Funeral Home in the past, so I went ahead and pursued them and I am glad I did. I am beyond thankful for Columbia Funeral Home. From start to finish, I felt the support and empathy from this place, especially Funeral Director, Roxanne. Roxanne walked my family and I through this process the best way we could have ever imagined. Family is so dear to us and Roxanne understood and took special care of our loved one. She was very efficient and explained every detail of what to expect. She answered all of our questions and assured us she will do everything she can to help us and make this process as smooth as possible, and she did. All of our request were met. She was even kind enough to fit us in your schedule last minute plenty of times, at our request. We had expressed to the funeral home that our family wanted privacy during this matter and if anyone from our community were to call, we ask that they keep the details private. I was amazed at how much they respected our decision and valued our privacy. Not only did Roger communicate this with Roxanne, but he made sure to mention this during the team meeting later that evening. This truly warmed my heart. Roxanne also took the time to attend my brothers viewing but remain at the door to make sure the viewing was intimate and took place with just his closest family and friends. Her attention to detail and her can do attitude brought so much ease during this time. Our family comes from a different cultural background and to know that Roxanne has had experience working with our community made the day of service and burial very easy. In fact, Roxanne led the show exactly how we expressed and dealt with the cultural barrier with ease. This provided our family comfort as we said our final farewell to our loved one.
