Having been through a rough patch with a different funeral home less then a year ago, I was apprehensive when we had another death in the family and had to find a different one. Barton's was suggested to us by the City of Bothell and we used the Kirkland location. Taylor was super and made everything flow very smooth. They took their time with my mother, respecting her wishes and the charges were way within what is considered reasonable. There are few things more shocking than a funeral home director refusing to wear a mask during a pandemic. Micheal met me outside to ask me to park elsewhere and was unmasked. When I asked if he had a mask to wear once we went inside he said no while waiving his hand and shaking his head, as though this was a silly idea and not something mandated by the state. Not only is this not ok for any business, it's particularly insensitive to those of use who have losses loved ones to COVID. Pandemic or no these are not the people you want handling your affairs or your loved ones. read more

We used the Barton funeral home for our stillborn daughter. They received her body and transported it back to their establishment so we could have some time with her and handled the cremation as well. They did everything at or below cost due to the nature of the situation. They were completely fantastic and comforting. We worked with Barton after losing my mom. They were right there with me the entire way. I have to say, this group is amazing. We worked with Michael Lanza (?) and the person at the front desk, Kathleen I think. This is not an easy business to be in, but Barton knows how to do it perfectly and with sensitivity. And Michael and Kathleen, what a great team. We used their cremation service, and they helped us with the biodegradable container required by the Washington State Ferry system, everything was done professionally, and with kindness. Enough said. This place was an absolute nightmare. Would not recommend. My grandma passed almost 2 months ago and I helped my mom deal with a lot of the arrangements and was in disbelief. To summarize: Pat needs to retire, Michael is grumpy, and Taylor is just flat out rude. The only person we didn't have issues with was the son Steven the day of the grave side service and I am so glad he didn't cause issues or my mom would have broke down. We had a few minor issues not worth mentioning, but there are two issues that stuck out. First, we had issues getting the correct cause of death on the death certificate. Yes, we realize this is the doctors responsibility ultimately but Michael and Pat and Taylor all handled the situation poorly. My grandma passed away Sunday 9/30 and on Thursday 10/3 Michael called my mom at 3:30 and said the death certificate still wasn't done but he was calling the doctor to walk him through fixing it and stressing the urgency. 2 hours went by and my mom still never heard back so she tried calling Michael. Michael was gone for the day. She got Pat who told her that the death certificate needed to be filed by that evening in order to have the funeral the following Wednesday, 10/9, because the website was going down for maintenance overnight and you need 3 days to get the burial permit. This freaked my mom out who called me balling that we wouldn't be able to have the funeral that day because Michael didn't get the death certificate figured out before he went home and now it's too late. I told her that made absolutely no sense (not knowing the rules) and I would call them. Enter Taylor. She told me oh no that's not true at all and Pat was working on getting the death certificate fixed. Not admitting to us that my mom was given false information by Pat. The website for filing was going down overnight but we had all the way until Monday morning to get the death certificate figured out. The second issue was with Taylor and Michael. Michael told us when we met with him on Wednesday 10/2 that we had to bring clothes to one of the offices for the burial. He specifically told both my mom and I that the Kirkland location was open Saturday morning and someone would be there. I even wrote the times down on the pamphlet we had gotten from them. Well when my mom mentioned this to Taylor on Thursday 10/3, the day everything crazy was going on, Taylor flat out told her they aren't open on Saturday at any location and no one would ever tell us that. I called Taylor to speak to her about this and she was unbelievably rude. She insisted no one would ever tell us that and we were lying. I told her look my mom is upset about everything going on but she isn't crazy. Telling her she is wrong and you are right is not the solution (even if we had been wrong, which we weren't). I said all you need to do is say I'm sorry you were told incorrect information during this difficult time and try and find a solution. She DID offer to come meet us there on Saturday if we told her what time, but after all of this we decided not to take her up on the offer and rearranged work schedules so the clothes could be dropped off Friday night before closing. It still just boggles my mind that she had to blame us for getting the times wrong. She said over and over again I don't believe anyone told you we were open on Saturday. Welp, Michael sure did whether you admit it or not Taylor. read more

I used Barton Family Funeral Service for my husbands cremation over 5 years ago. They handled everything beautifully from beginning to end. I went back to Barton's three weeks ago for services for my mother. Again, the arrangements were handled perfectly from beginning to end. My family is Greek Orthodox so we have an extra church service the night before the actual funeral. The funeral home sent two lovely representatives that stayed the entire time. They were wonderful and very kind and warm. Steve Barton attended the funeral for my mother the next day. I highly recommend this funeral home. I have sent three families to Barton's and all three families were extremely happy and pleased with not only the service, but the prices (compared to Washelli and other funeral homes). Thank you to Steve Barton and his team for making my mama look absolutely beautiful. I was so happy when I saw how beautiful she was and her make-up and hair were perfection. They allowed me to do her nail polish one last time for her. Please do yourself a favor, check out Barton's (a few locations) and you will be very happy you did (and so will your wallet). Just because you choose to go somewhere a bit cheaper than the 'other guys', doesn't mean you love your loved one less. It means you are smart! read more

When I went to see them, they treated me like family. I couldn't believe it. I was hurting so much and Pat Barton sat down with me and made me feel at home. As best as an experience that you can get under the circumstances! The family was always available, understanding, and quick (facilitating death certificates, etc.). Did not try to sell anything - quite the opposite, suggesting ways to save money and enlightening us to available free military options. Very helpful navigating the process in how many certificates are needed, etc. We chose the Barton's blindly based on an internet search and reviews, now I tell others about how helpful and reasonably priced they were. read more

My brother died unexpectedly and we used Barton's to handle his cremation. They were fantastic! Barton's is a small family-owned outfit that doesn't feel like like some corporate rip-off outfit. My elderly mother passed away at the hospital and Bartons was very close by .They came and removed my mother not to their funeral home , but some warehouse in Kent ,i was not aware of this at the time . There was to be no service ,so when i arrived to view my mother on the morning of her interment , I was horrified to find that her hair was soaking wet her nails were not painted, no makeup and to make matters worse her dress was on backwards ! When questioned the owner had little to say except ,that a male staff member had dressed my mother and that he had very little knowledge of womans clothing ,was this a joke !.I told him to get me nail polish and makeup ,i did the work myself ! Then the owner told me that turning the dress around was a lot of work ,i couldnt believe what I was hearing ! .I have no idea how my mother was treated after she left the hospital ,but the condition I saw her in made me sick ! To this day I regret using Bartons Funeral home in Seattle . Not a week goes by that the horror of that day continues to upset me and will for many years to come. read more
