Heidi is great! I had some seriously tight and painful knots in my trapezius and 5 days after seeing her they are still gone. Heidi does a form of deep tissue that is super relaxing and while deep, is more effective than painful. You can tell that she finds each knot and is driven to work it out while still providing a thoroughly balanced and very relaxing massage. Heidi has a very easy-going and calm demeanor and her space is so clean and zen-like. After the massage I felt so relaxed but also revitalized and invigorated because my muscles felt like they were re-oxygenated. I only went for 1 hour and she accomplished this so I bet a 90 minute would be amazing! Highly recommend! Great massage, great treatment, they really know what they are doing. I went there because I was getting migraines and I naturally wanted to get rid them. There massage is relaxing but also intense, meaning they will get rid of your pain but it will be intense or painful during the massage. It will feel great afterwards. The only reason why it's 4 stars instead of 5, is the price. Great service but you will pay for it. A massage is $85 plus tip which gets close to $100. A lot for a 60 minute massage. This is a review for Mara's NMT work. I've had occasional lower back issues for years. After the birth of my daughter last year, the occasional back spasm turned into a chronic issue. After re-injuring it two weekends in a row, I realized the old rest and heat tricks weren't going to cut it. My right hip began creeping up higher and higher and I began worrying that I was going to be permanently impacted. I googled and googled and came to think I had a lateral pelvic tilt and then read up on Neuromusucular Therapy. Mara's name came up in a search of local practitioners and her reviews on the Elemental Health page were excellent. I appreciated that Mara allowed me to express total panic about my back. She even hugged me when I started crying! She then took time to assess my posture and positioning, talk to me about the way I move and the lifestyle I have. She also didn't expect me to radically alter my life, something you can't really do with a one year old. There was no "Well, you just can't pick your daughter up." Instead, she also talked about longer term habits and how NMT can help realign the misaligned. The massage was incredible. Rather than a routine from a masseuse, this was a targeted approach that involved stopping to assess how my muscles were engaged and then working on areas that needed work...not just rubbing my shoulders because it feels good. It felt purposeful and effective. We discussed a multi-visit approach that would allow me to gradually work on exercises while allowing the NMT work to do its thing. I've had one follow up and was equally impressed. We've set a treatment path that feels thorough without being excessive and thoughtful towards the life I live. She's been great about communicating when I've needed to reschedule and just makes things easy. I was skeptical that anything could help and convinced I was headed towards a life of constant pain and limited mobility--not what you want to be imagining as someone in their 30s. I am now convinced that Mara is a gifted practitioner and someone who knows what she's doing. I am glad to have found her and glad to be working with her. I went here for two things - Acupuncture and a massage. I give this place three stars mostly because the atmosphere was not relaxing at all. The woman who gave me the acupuncture had her toddlers running around. While she was in the private treatment room with me her kids came whining for their mom and she had to leave to tend to them mid treatment. It really ruined the experience for me. But I went back for a massage with someone else, but left feeling worse than I did before I had the acupuncture and felt like I got cheated out of $100. I recommend going to Lincoln Square Acupuncture where they offer a sliding scale rate and really pay attention to your needs and concerns. Even though they have a community healing room, it is way more relaxing than having small children running around while you have needles in your body. read more

I was visiting Chicago for a long weekend to celebrate New Year's Eve with friends and I wanted a massage because I've been working way too hard in NYC, where I am a massage therapist as well. I did some research, as I gravitate towards people with a private practice rather than a spa setting, but the way that Elemental Health presented their therapists piqued my interest! On the website, each therapist/practitioner has a bio and even a link to their own website, which makes me think that Elemental Health appreciates each as an individual! So I gave Elemental Health a call, and after a little phone tag I was able to procure an appointment for early afternoon on New Year's Eve. I was a little concerned that I'd be woozy and post-massage tired, hence not up for a party, but that was not the case with Mara! Mara practices Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), which I had never experienced singularly in a session before, and I was very pleased with my experience. She worked to treat my specific issues, and I came out of an hour session feeling much more at ease in my body. As someone who does physical labor (truly) all day, I really appreciated her attention to detail, going deeply where necessary but not in excess. I love deep tissue work, overall, but I know that sometimes it can be too much- the body can only change a little at a time, neurologically and therefore muscularly. This session was just right and got me on track for vacation, and ready to return to work when the time came. I recommend Mara's work for anyone who is an athlete, working with an injury, or interested in maintaining optimum alignment in their body. You'd also like Mara's work if you have a high level of awareness in your body and notice when things "feel off." Regular sessions of NMT are recommended, so now I just have to find a practitioner in my city! Thanks, Mara! read more
