Wish I could give them 0 star. I called elephant insurance to cancel my policy and made sure there was no remaining balance. I was told they was no payment. A month later, I received a letter from bill collection agent that I owe $25.09 plus collection fee $20. I called them to discuss about it and they said they emailed me to charging me for an extra day because they usually charge for 30 days and some month has an extra day. Okay..... it still doesn't make sense because I cancelled the policy and April doesn't have the extra day. How am I supposed to be checking the email from the insurance company that I cancelled and was told there was no payment? They are rip off!!!!! Worst company!!! Don't give them business!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update: Someone reached out to me and explain about the charge. She told me a totally different story about the charge. I am so disappointed in the lack of service. Every time I have called, good or bad, I have been rerouted by the agent to make a terrible decision. This company will not take the blame nor own up to having any faults. Finally after putting up with the "he said she said" for years. I called in recently to ask if there were any cancellation fee's, was told no so I cancelled and found a $350 charge from Elephant stating it was leftover from the previous premium. I've left numerous voicemails & I've called everyday since my accident. I still know absolutely nothing about my car. I have carried Elephant for about six months. They gave me good monthly quote with the coverage I needed. A flat tire spurred me to call for roadside assistance. They were prompt, courteous and changed the tire quickly. Knock on polymers, but I have not had to call them with a claim thus far. But from all the reviews on Yelp, it is concerning. My experience with this business is that they not only, out of the sky, cancelled my policy, which they had no liable reason to do so, but they would not refund me back the money I paid. I informed them that when they cancelled my policy, they need to return my money because it forced me to immediately go forward and get another carrier. To top it all off, without my authorization, they went into my account and took more money, which I did not owe. This company believes they can treat a customer any way they want, and customers who have not had a bad experience, yet, will keep them afloat. I'm very disappointed in Elephant Insurance. They were reasonably priced with decent customer service, so I can't complain about that. But last year, I hit some debris left on the road early in the morning 5AM and when I was considering filing a claim or paying out-of-pocket, the claim agent (Eric Hearn) was telling me that it wasn't going to be considered an "at-fault accident" and that my insurance shouldn't change. So I filed a claim. It turns out, they filed the claim as a "at-fault collision", so at renewal my policy has increased by nearly $200, and trying to find reasonably-priced insurance after I moved to California has been impossible. They are the WORST!! So many things that I can say but they LOST my vehicle for 2 days due to the tow truck driver (that they hired) not documenting when and where he towed my car! Honest God truth! My insurance adjuster was trash also. I had to do the work in my claim! Fight to locate my vehicle and get it to the shop! My insurance adjuster called me a day after my vehicle was towed and left a message for me to set up the tow!! I went through HELL with them but I was persistent! I worked in total loss at State Farm and licensed in health, auto and life insurance. I went with Elephant because they are a local VA company. Low rates, great customer service if you don't have a claim. Two adult drivers without even a ticket. The other policy holder slid on ice and totaled his car. He damaged a mailbox and was injured (broken wrist from the mailbox coming through the window and lots of bruising). They called to find out the info for the mailbox owner and didn't even ask how he was doing! Here comes the total loss part. WHAT A JOKE!!! They offered us crap for the vehicle. Little did they know I worked in total loss and know how the value of a car is calculated. The accident happened in January 2021. It is now August 2021 and I am STILL waiting for an electronic Power of Attorney for the other person on the title to sign. I am getting hundreds of calls for home security systems, health insurance and car warranty from advertisers that obtained my phone number from Elephant. How do I know that? When I first called Elephant for a quote, I did it on behalf of my wife. The policy was on her name, but because I called to ask details about the policy, they associated my phone number with my wife's name.. So, they call my number asking for her.. I have a company pickup that was hit in the rear on Aug. 27,2018 by someone with Elephant Insurance. Now it is Nov. 7, 18 and still trying to get full payment for repairs. Have taken photos for estimate as requested. Immediately once I received their estimate ($1,229.00) I made contact with company and told them of several items that were not on estimate. Basically, they low balled price and hoped I would take check and be gone. I told them to send out an adjuster and look at the damaged truck. NO, I was told to get take to shop and have them submit a supplemental estimate for repairs. I did. Shop came up with ADDITIONAL $1,633.76 of damage. After many calls to always a different person and several emails that all went unanswered, I received a check for the $1,229 and two weeks later a check for $774.84. This was $858 short for total repairs. Now I am told the second supplemental of seven pages and 11 photos did not show all the backup needed. I RAISED HELL. Told them I was through. SEND OUT YOUR ADJUSTER and get this done. I told them I was going to go rent a replacement pickup truck and it would cost them a heck of a lot more than the $858 dollars...... HOW DO THEY STAY IN BUSINESS. NEVER NEVER NEVER GET ELEPHANT INSURANCE. I guess I am going to turn it over to my lawyer and try to get this resolved . The owner of the car allowed a non licensed driver operate their vehicle and that person ended up running a stop sign and caused my car to be a total loss. I'm now having to go to physical therapy and my entire life has been rearranged due to this. The problem I'm having is they have given me a rental but want me to be responsible for the car after the coverage limit that they give and I haven't received any payment to purchase a new vehicle. This has been awful. At first I was impressed with how fast the adjuster got back to me when I would reach out regarding my claim. Now I'm past my patience with this company. One of their insured hit me on 1/22/20. They kept saying that they needed a recorded statement from their insured. Okay. A week goes by. Two weeks. They can't get in touch with her. She hit me. She received the citation from the police. Of course she's not going to answer the phone. My claim was passed along to another adjuster at the end of week #2 since they still were unable to get in touch with her. I was told that I should get my hands on the police report because then they could move along with the claim. I get the police report stating that their insured was at fault and that she was given the citation. But because the police report didn't specifically say that the police took statements from both of us, they still need a statement from their insured. What kind of stupid technicality is that? How do you think the police came to the conclusion about the accident if he didn't speak to both of us? This is ridiculous. I'm now on week 3 without my car and I do not have a job that is metro accessible. In fact, my job requires me to travel frequently with my car. I've had to pay hundreds off dollars in ubers and lyfts to get around. All because Elephant wants to beat around the bush. Unbelievable. read more

I was hit by an elephant driver and filed claims on November 7th, 2018. Elephant took forever to contact the owner to process the claim. Working with elephant is very frustrating, as the claims representatives/adjusters will never pick up their phone, and never call to keep me posted. Weeks have gone by and things have been moving at a very slow rate. I went and got an estimate done and submitted it to the company, which took weeks to process. Then they required me to submit pictures, and even after doing so they have not gotten back to me. This company does little to try and keep you updated; it seems like you have to do all the calling. It has been almost two months and I still have not gotten my car fixed. Very unhappy with the service this company provides. I will be updated when my car get to the shop. read more
