The elephant odyssey actually includes more than just elephants! There are also condors, camels, capybaras, frogs, and a Baird's Tapir! This felt like a calmer side of the park...more quiet.

A nice long walking exhibit that's best experienced either first or last during your day at the zoo. There's only one negative about Elephant Odyssey and that's the narrow path throughout the exhibit. On busy days it's completely congested with tourists and strollers. Expect your foot to be rolled over at least twice.. Most interesting - At the top of the exhibit is the fossil portal. This is an interpretive room with a Tar Pit pool with staff displaying hands-on fossil experiences. For locals, if you look at the placards on the wall you can read about several local fossil museums within an hour's drive of the zoo. Lots of potential day trips for you and your family. Conveniently located next to the top skyfari station.

Well Here at Elephant Odyssey It is pretty darn Cool !! First of all as you walk in There are bones of elephants and others kept on preserve so you can take a look then when you walk in there are Elephants Sculptures where kids love to play on and take pictures !! Almost everyone tends to stop and take photos here at Elephant Odyssey !! Plus the Lions are kept here also !! Really cool to see but most of the time the male lion is sleeping and female lion is awake for you to see !! Also there is the leopard here also !! I always enjoy coming to elephant odyssey it is fun for everyone !! There are benches for you to sot and enjoy watching the elephants walk around in there habitats !! Here at Elephant Odyssey it is located inside the San Diego Zoo and it is one exhibit you must stop by and see for yourself !! Very cool !! Overall I say when your at the Zoo don't hesitate to stop in at the elephant odyssey and enjoy !! Lots of Elephants here to see and Lions and Leopards !!

My family, friends and I always make sure that we hit up their new elephant odyssey on each trip out to the San Diego Zoo. They did such a great job on this new addition to their park. It's huge! Definitely the largest state of the art elephant treatment facility and exhibit I have ever seen. And it's great how they incorporated other species and unusual animals into it as well, so you not only get to see elephants, but other mammals, amphibians, birds, and insects to name a few. You'll have to come check it out for yourself. It'll be worth it!

My son LOVES the elephants! He also likes pacing alongside the jaguar when she's in her den. The ONLY thing that is negative about this big, beautiful, newer part of the zoo, is the fact that the "tar pit" only seems to be functioning during the summer when tourists are about. As members who come year round, we think it looks kinda janky when it's not working and is just stagnant. They also used to have a keeper who answered questions at the fossil desk but I haven't seen one this year. I feel like once other parts of the zoo get makeovers, upkeep on the last upgrade goes by the wayside.

Elephants. They had a selection of sizes, so extra cute. I mean, you're at the zoo. How can you not love this? They had some activities for the kiddies, too, if that's your thing.

A lot has changed, but at the same time, so much of what I remembered was still there! I brought my DSLR with me specifically hoping to get some great pictures, and the zoo definitely delivered. First things first: be prepared to WALK. This zoo is massive! I highly recommend starting with the guided bus tour if you want to get a good overview of the park before exploring on foot. The roughly 45-minute ride takes you past a huge portion of the zoo and mixes in fun trivia, history, and information about the different exhibits. I actually learned about the full-service restaurant up in the treetops from taking the tour first! Afterward, I spent several hours walking around and taking pictures. I was really impressed by how active so many of the animals were, and everything appeared to be very well cared for. Compared to some other zoos I've visited where there wasn't much happening, there was plenty to see here. I ended up getting some really cool shots of several different animals. There's also no shortage of places to grab a snack, sit down for a meal, or do some shopping throughout the park. I even managed to snag a really cute sweatshirt for 50% off! My only disappointment was that the pandas weren't out during my visit. Obviously, that was completely out of anyone's control, but I was still a little sad because the pandas were 8-year-old me's favorite part of this zoo! All in all, I had a great time coming back as an adult. It was equal parts nostalgic and completely new, and I'm glad I finally returned. Hopefully it won't be another 25+ years before my next visit!

I love walking through the park, running the trails, and bringing my dog. The dog park is huge and gives them plenty of room to run around, which is a major plus. You could easily spend hours just walking and exploring everything Balboa Park has to offer. Between the trails, architecture, museums, gardens, recreational areas, and incredible history, there is always something to see or do. Even after coming here so often, I still enjoy simply walking around and taking it all in. The history and architecture are really what make Balboa Park special. It's beautiful, full of character, and such an incredible part of San Diego. Whether you want to exercise, walk your dog, explore, have a picnic, visit a museum, or just enjoy being outside, this park has something for everyone. An easy 5/5 for me. There were lots of interactive activities for kids, but I honestly had just as much fun learning about everything myself! The animals appeared very well cared for, and I loved the touch pools. The animals would occasionally take breaks from interacting, which I appreciated because it felt like they were being given plenty of space and rest. The staff were also great! We learned so much from the workers throughout the aquarium. Rosy the rosy boa was especially fun to learn about, and I loved seeing the loggerhead sea turtle with a 3D-printed back brace and the octopus recovering from a leg injury. Seeing the care that goes into these animals made the experience even more meaningful. Parking was easy and free, which is always a huge plus. There's also a cute gift shop with some really nice, quality items. It is definitely on the pricier side, but there were plenty of things I liked. It was a summer Thursday and the place was packed with kids and their parents, all having a blast. There was a zip line, bumper cars, an arcade, a giant pirate-themed play place - heaven on earth to rambunctious little people! The whole place was cutesy - beach themed photo ops everywhere. They also had plenty of "fair food" for those looking for a junky snack. My only complaint was that there wasn't enough shaded areas to sit in and enjoy a meal. Additionally, they didn't really have any vegetarian food options. We were starving (our main reason for checking out this place) and found cheese pizza slices as the only vegetarian friendly option. Seemed quite odd considering how popular vegetarianism has become, especially in places like California..
