The food was very flavorful (chicken satay, pad Thai with pork, and pineapple curry. I loved the heart shaped rice :0) The portion size was huge - plenty to bring home for later. I decided to try Singha since it is a Thai beer and I really enjoyed it, as well. The staff were very attentive, friendly, and helpful. Though the service was very pleasant and friendly, the food was disappointing. I was taking two people to try Thai food for the first time and wanted to order some standard appetizer and noodle dishes. The Pad Thai had too much sauce and was orange in color. Any time Pad Thai is either hot or orange in a restaurant , it does not feel legit to me. In this case it was orange. I also ordered Drunken Noodles, which were not the typical wide rice noodle. They may have been egg noodles. I'm not sure. The Drunken Noodles also did not have the sweet heat I am used to from other restaurants. The Drunken Noodles were more salty than sweet. The Pad See Ew was the best dish of the three. It was actually comforting, had the right noodles, and waas flavorful. The spring rolls, crab Rangoon, and chicken satay were ok. The satay sauce was basically straight vinegar, and I had to explain that that's not normally how it tastes. My food was hot temperature wise and the spice was just right. My partner got the pink dragon roll without masago. It was so creamy and good!! We also got the mango sticky rice to try and it was to die for!! The freshness of the mango with creaminess of the coconut milk was so good on the rice!! The service was great! We had a wonderful experience at Elephant Thai while visiting Ohio/WV with our family. After hiking at Hocking Hills and with a flight to catch in just over an hour, we stopped here for lunch--and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The restaurant itself is clean, warm, and welcoming, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. They were attentive, kind, and even mindful of the fact that we were on a tight schedule to get to the airport. One waitress thoughtfully asked whether ordering a curry dish to-go might be an issue on the plane, which showed how much they truly care about their customers. As for the food--it was excellent. We enjoyed a flavorful curry, Pad Thai, and generous sushi rolls with fresh fish. For dessert, the mango sticky rice was absolutely delicious. Noel and I stopped in at Elephant Thai for lunch. We were greeted and seated immediately which I like. Then she took our drink order, Noel had water and I ordered Half-Half Iced Tea but it was really sweet. Noel and I both had Miso Soup to start with which was very good and very hot. Then we were served our Veggie Spring Rolls (my favorite) with Thai Plum dipping sauce and Gyoza (pork deep fried dumplings) with a brown soy based dipping sauce. Noel went with a Bento Box that included Shashmi ( tuna three different ways) some Raw Tuna Rolls (three different ways) seaweed salad with yum yum sauce drizzled on it and a spicy tuna sushi roll. HIDDEN GEM (at least to an out of towner)! I absolutely love this app for the exact reason of finding this establishment. We were in town for the weekend, first time ever, with chain restaurants only around us (not my jam). Found the reviews on Elephant Thai and drove 15 minutes to try it, which turned out to be a great decision. This tiny storefront is ridiculously deceiving if you think typical strip restaurant in my area as it was authentic, stellar food with amazing customer service, so consider it your favorite 'hole in the wall' kinda place you almost hope people don't find out about so you can always find a table. If I lived locally I would be there once a week. Drunken Noodles and Pad Zee Ew were total chef's kiss. We had grabbed to go given the amount of traffic for what turned out to be SummerFest outside, so no pics of the food - but it was two meals for my noodles at a overly fair price point. I have spent $20 on that dish in Atlanta with half the portion and a 10th of the flavor. Every dish that came out to tables while we waited for food was picture perfect making me hungry. The sushi looked amazing, especially for a smaller town where one doesn't expect it - no slight to small towns, they are totally my jam, but let's be honest - one doesn't expect gluten-free or sushi in them. If I am ever back that way, I will drive out of my way for drunken noodles, or the pineapple fried rice that has stellar reviews here as well, and add some sushi. We've not eaten at many Thai restaurants and when we were in Charleston for a basketball tournament we decided to check it out given the high Yelp ratings. And boy were we happy to have found this place... It's a tad bit small for the seemingly high demand so plan accordingly and know there's going to be a likely wait at peak dinner time. The service, food, and drinks were all phenomenal... honestly quite surprised we were in Charleston sitting in such a classy spot. Unfortunately I'm writing this review a few days after our visit but wanted to give them credit. We had a couple of the chicken stir fry dishes (both amazing) a tuna poke bowl that was on point, a few tasty egg rolls that were delicious, some delightful Thai teas with boba, a hot green tea, and the fried ice cream was out of this world! We used to go here sometimes twice a week. Rarely an issue. The last few times we ate there, the service was deteriorating. FYI, we lived in DC and Florida for years and ALWAYS leave a generous tip, usually 20 to 25%. We were seated. Then three other tables were seated. We arrived at 2:45 pm and wasn't aware that they closed from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm. The waitress did mention that they were closing, but that we could stay a little while to eat. I love crab rangoon and my husband likes egg rolls, so we both ordered appetizers. The crab rangoon had a lot of filling and the wontons themselves were nice and crisp. Pretty sure the wrappers were made fresh. I wasn't crazy about the taste of the filling. Tasted mostly like plain cream cheese. My husband said his Thai Shrimp egg rolls were decent. I decided on Chicken Pad Thai and I really enjoyed the flavor. It had a sweet and nutty taste, which was delicious. My husband ordered the Drunken Noodles with shrimp. He wasn't a big a fan of it. We're visiting South Charleston, WV, on the way to New River Gorge National Park. We have our dog, and despite the places that claim to be "dog friendly," we ordered take-out and ate in our room. We ordered Yellow Curry w/Tofu and Pad See Ew w/chicken. The dishes were appropriately cooked and spiced. It's easy to find "Thai restaurants" that are really bland, but Elephant Thai did a nice job. The noodles in Pad See Ew were firm, but flexible, and the carrots were cut at the right thickness. The carrots were flexible and firm, and the broccoli had a little crunch. A nice dish. The Yellow Curry avoided the sometimes goopy gravy look and showcased identifiable vegetables and lightly grilled tofu with crispy edges. Spicy without sending me to the burn unit, I highly recommend it. Customer service could be improved as the host was excessively multitasking. Taking care of phone calls, customers at the counter, and questions from the staff is way too much. Delegating is not evil. It's not cheap, but it's worth the price, and if you're nearby, you won't go wrong here. read more
