Pho is average nothing special. Service sucks they seem like their hate their job. The owners / servers said probably 5 words total the whole time we were there and were not friendly. Only good thing is after we left, we came back and they let us use the restroom without any issues. Not very clean, especially in the bathroom, they did not even have soap.... Just handsantizer. The perfect spot for a bowl of comfort! The restaurant is tiny and filled with the smell of delicious food being prepared. We have started getting two ordered of their cream cheese wontons because they are fabulous. I always get the #13 pho and it's perfection. Hot broth over perfectly cooked noodles with tender brisket. fried rice is okay, pho is not good, broth is sour and smell is weird, not recommended

Pho is very legit. Broth is fresh, and delicious but not as robust as others that I've tried at the best pho joints. They pulled a clump of bean sprouts out on to the side plate without checking them. A chunk of rancid bits in the middle rendered the whole pile a do not eat. The steamed shrimp dumplings had a curiously old shrimp taste as well. I've had these MANY times at other Asian joints. They were off. The orange chicken was a lot of breading, and very little chicken. Not what was pictured in their official photos. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee was served 2/3 full and a bit too thick, but tasted good. Dining room was super clean. Service was earnest but occasionally a bit hard to get. South Charleston parking is pretty easy to find. Located a few hundred yards from a Dow Chemical plant, with a bunch of "No Photos" signs at the gates DOES give me this Erin Brockovitch-like pause about eating in this area. We don't make the water. We make the water glow so prettily. My hunger, though, after a couple of hours of snake-curved mountain roads, gets the better of me. The pho photos sell it too well. By Southern California, or Port Arthur Texas standards for a Vietnamese joint? A solid three star. Won't thrill ya, won't kill ya. For South Charleston, West Virginia? Not welcoming at all. Did not come to check on us. Asked for check and they said pay here at counter. Just not hospitable. I'm tired of paying a small fortune for zero service and inconsistent quality. I've eaten here several times. You must order at a kiosk, which is not simple navigation for what we like to order. It's unable to customize, or answer questions. And yet a tip is requested. Nice mam is not fish sauce on the latest visit, but more like Chinese duck sauce. I won't return. read more

First time trying Pho and it was amazing. I got the chef special spicy beef pho (43) and it was perfect. The meat was medium rare and cooked in the broth. It was spicy but you could still taste the original beef base. For $10.99 the bowl was HUGE! You get a hearty side of bean sprouts with it. I also ordered the egg rolls....they weren't greasy at all. They were crispy and had a lot of flavor. I recommend this place to anyone breathing They start you off with chop sticks, you have to request silverware when you get your order taken. read more

The food was mediocre at best. The shrimp spring rolls were iceberg lettuce, noodles and shrimp and lacked any discernible taste which was much like Pho which again was fairly flavorless. The real issue was accompaniment of herbs and veggies for the pho. The basil was old and completely wilted, the bean sprouts were old, wilted and slimy, the jalapeño( one slice) was wilted and the lime slice was dry and when I asked for some fresh basil the guy says it's all dead and to emphasize the point brought out some even more wilted basil. The caramelized shrimp and rice plate was just ok. The sauce had a nice flavor and the onions were good but the bottom core was left which held the onion solid quarters and made them difficult to eat. Our original server was rude at best and never returned after taking our order. There was really little redeeming about this meal. read more

Stopping through Charleston I was surprised to see a Vietnamese spot and so it was a good enough reason to stop. I had the #23 vermicelli with pork, shrimp and egg roll. The dish was OK but it did not come with mint added like some other places I've gone. I did ask for some lime and Thai basil and all together it turned out nice once I added the extra spices and chili. Well i guess its good for the area they are located in. Pho bowl was tiny size compare to what i usally get but it got me full. Broth needed alittle more kick to it when it first came out. I ordered the pho dac biet and a boba drink which i think they defrost the boba in microwave making it taste like wierd. Not complete condiments had to ask for some chilli oil and sugar! Ice coffee was alittle sour too. But overall for the area i guess it worked out for a bowl of pho. read more

We stopped in for the first time on a rainy day and we were not disappointed. We caught the tail end of the lunch rush, with a good crowd inside when we sat down. The service was quick and the pho was good. I'm a big fan of shrimp pho and this place made it a little different from any other place I've tried by adding broccoli and carrots. It was still good, just not how I prefer it. They also had plenty of high chairs, which is great for families with little ones. read more

Friendly enough staff, cute clean interior with ample parking on the street. I had egg rolls and #44 egg noodle soup with chicken. I had a cold and wanted chicken noodle soup! There were live and cut flowers for decoration and a tv playing Vietnamese singers in one corner. The egg rolls were not the type found in Chinese restaurants, and I really liked them. Inside the thin and crispy wrapper I found pork, mushrooms, carrots, green onions, and maybe water chestnuts. Very tasty and served with a hot/sweet dipping sauce. The soup was great-I ate all of it! The broth was nicely seasoned and just slightly spicy. The chicken pieces were pulled off the bone, both white and dark meat, and floated among a nest of thin, curly egg noodles. In the broth there was snipped cilantro and green onion and ultra thin slices of white onion. On the side is a plate of shredded lettuce, lime, jalapenos, and Thai basil that you may add to your taste. On the table are 4 sauces including sriracha and hoisin, to add to your soup if you prefer it sweeter or spicier. The food came out really quickly and my meal was only $10.70. The restaurant is only a couple blocks from the Ramada and Wingate hotels. I definitely felt much better after polishing off my soup. I'm not sure if this place would be good for kids or not. I didn't see a kids menu, but if your kids aren't overly picky and will eat Ramen noodles and egg rolls, they should be fine. read more

I love this place! I am brand new to Charleston and though I've only had it a handful of times, I have really enjoyed Vietnamese food. I cannot speak to how authentic Pho Vinh Long is, but I know that it's delicious and the price is great. The quality of the food was good in my opinion but again I don't know Vietnamese food very well. The staff was really friendly, especially my waitress. The place was pretty empty when I got there around 4pm and it was super clean. It had a decent sized dining room with plenty of tables and chairs. Now for the food! First I got the spring rolls as an appetizer, and they were delicious. Lettuce, noodles, mint and shrimp. They were served with an amazing sweet peanut sauce. You got two giant spring rolls for $2.99 which I thought was a great price for them. For my dinner I got a small shrimp noodle. Most of the noodle bowls were around $8 and it's slightly cheaper if you get a small. Let me tell you though, the small was still huge! It came with thin noodles, 5 or 6 LARGE shrimp (tail still on) and some green and white onion in the broth. Served fresh on the side were giant slices of jalapeno, bean sprouts, cilantro, a wedge of lime and a tiny bit of some other herb (really don't know what it was). I personally HATE cilantro so I was really glad that it came on the side and was not served in the spring roll. The broth was super hot of course, so I suggest throwing the bean sprouts and jalapenos in first if you want the sprouts to soften and the flavor of the jalapeno to work into the broth. I waited until the very end to try lime in my broth in case I didn't like it, and I'm glad because I wasn't a fan. Overall I have decided that I love this place. They have an amazing menu with over 40 selections of entres. Mainly beef noodle bowls but also chicken and shrimp. There were other bowls that could be served with or without sauce/broth, as well as some dishes with fried rice, dumplings, egg rolls, etc. I also saw Pad Thai on the menu! I definitely fell in love and will continue to try other items on the menu. I plan on eating here at least once a week while I'm in town for work so I can try the different items!! read more
