The build your own burger here is second to none. Absolutely juicy and top grade beef. Seasoned fries fresh and hot. The dated appearance of the place, kinda sloppy and seats are all worn out as is the 90's decor. Great service and amazing staff.

Not vodka sauce. This is sauce from a can. It's also the reason I have food poisoning.

Me and a few buddies had dinner here on Friday night. Let me say first off that the decision to dine here was based on the Yelp reviews. I suspect that they are fake. The food was badly presented, small portioned, and in my opinion not fit for human consumption. I had a simple dish. Chicken in vodka sauce with spaghetti. What I got was chicken in tomato sauce. The chicken was rubbery and inedible. The spaghetti was over cooked to the point of being mush like. And the sauce was not vodka sauce as advertised. I also got food poisoning, which is why I'm writing this review at 6:00 in the morning when I should be sleeping. Instead I am sick. I sent it back. I posted a picture here of the source of my gastric discomfort. Maybe after having s few drinks at the bar, the food doesn't seem bad, but seriously... I'm really sick.

Good food and a wonderful bartender! It's always friendly and comforting! Clean and service oriented to patrons without a lot of frivolity.

After being awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and entertainment venues, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Don Ho's Restaurant & Lounge in Hollins, Virginia, is a perfect example. Located off Lee Highway, in Hollins, Virginia, a road less traveled by me, until I decided to take it in search of this gem of a restaurant, which until then I had no idea it existed, even though it has been opened for 25 years. On its parking lot sign it clearly states "Serving The Area Since 2000." From the simple architectural design design of its building and humble entrance, you would never imagine what the inside would hold for you. As I opened the door and walked in, the first thing I saw was a little Christmas tree that you could tell was decorated with lots of love. The reasantly renovated dining room was clean and cozy with a combination of booths, tables and chairs, and some small high round tables with high chairs. In the center of the restaurant was a square counter with the cashier station, the Pepsi products machine, some desserts and Christmas decorations. As I was looking around a friendly and very hospitable waitress welcomed me and said I could have a seat anywhere I liked, handed me a copy of the menu, and took my drink order. I ordered a Pepsi to drink. After returning with my drink, she took my food order. I ordered a cup of their Chili Beans to start off with, and as my main entrée the Half Pound Black Angus Cheese Burger with their special fries. First of all the Chili Beans were amazing. One of the best that I have ever had, and one of my favorite foods. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and its food. Then came the burger. It was delicious with fresh soft burger buns and all the toppings a good burger should have. And their unique fries were one-of-a-kind. The waitress came by to check on me at the appropriate times and to provide drink refills. For dessert I had a slice of one of the best Key Lime Pies that I had ever had. The merengue on it tasted like the home-made one my mother used to make when I was growing up. When I was finished, my waitress encouraged me to go take a look at the Lounge in the back room. It was nice, with two pool tables, a colorful lit bar, tables and chairs, booths, large screen tv, and even a small stage. There, besides drinking and eating, you can shoot pool or sing karaoke. Smoking is allowed in the lounge, which has a special ventilation system. However, the restaurant side of the establishment is completely non-smoking. Before leaving I got to meet the owner himself and felt the great attachment he has for his restaurant of many years, for his staff that has been with him for years, for his loyal customers, and for his son and general manager Jo Jo, who is learning all he can from his dad and hopes one day to take over the restaurant and continue the family tradition. As I was leaving, after a very satisfying dining experience, I noticed some Award plaques on the wall. This year 2025, Don Ho's had cleaned up in the Roanoke Times readers awards for best bar, waitstaff, restaurant, burger and best customer service at a restaurant. I highly recommend this one-of-a-kind restaurant & lounge, and who knows, maybe when you go and visit, you'll run into me there, because I definitely am planning to return real soon.

After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And The Hangout Sports Bar and Lounge in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. Located on Williamson Road, in the Hollins area of Roanoke, Virginia, The Hangout is a sports bar, restaurant, and lounge, with a casual, friendly, and lively atmosphere, offering a mix of food, drinks, and entertainment like pool tables, live music, and karaoke, among others. People gather there for lunch, for dinner, or just to have a drink or two as they spend some time chatting with their friends. I arrived around three o'clock to have a late lunch and visit the place for the first time. The bar was completely full with customers drinking and having fun conversations. Other customers were enjoying themselves playing pool on one of the many pool tables. During the day, customers are welcomed to play pool for free and in the evenings for a small fee. I walked over to the bar counter and asked the friendly bartender, Mitch, if they were still serving lunch and if I could seat at one of the booths. He told me they were and to go ahead and have a seat at the booth of my choice. Soon after he came by with the menu and took my drink order. I asked if he could make me a Piña Colada Mocktail and he did. It tasted amazing. Beside the regular menu they also had an All Day Specials menu for every day of the week from Monday through Friday. To dine I ordered a BBQ Burger from the regular menu. It was served with fries. Meanwhile everytime a customer came in, you could immediately tell he was a regular by the warm greeting he received from the bartender and other customers there. When my server/bartender brought my burger, it looked wonderful. Fresh burger buns with an all beef 1/3 lb burger, topped with white American cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce, and onions. I poured some ketchup on it from a squeeze bottle by server had brought me and put on my table. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. My server introduced me to the owner of the place, Lori, a very warm and welcoming lady who opened this establishment in 2021and since then has made it a very popular place focusing on making it a casual environment and a fun spot where locals and visitors can socialize and have a good time. After all, its slogan, written under its front sign, states: "Good Food, Good People ... Great Times." Featuring a full bar, including draft beers, hard liquor and cocktails, quality comfort food at affordable prices, entertainment such as indoor and outdoor stages for bands to play live music, karaoke, and games like pool and cornhole, and a friendly crew to top it off, the only negative thing that I could find was tight parking, but at night customers can park on the parking lot of the business on their left and in a space across the street. I highly recommend this place for some good times and can't wait for the Spring and Summer to arrive to return with friends and enjoy all the creative things they have to offer.

One would expect that with a name like Status, it would have a more distinctive menu and that the items on the menu be quality food cooked by experienced chefs. But instead of at least meeting my high expectations, Status was a great disappointment. Yes, as a nightclub its decor, music, and lighting effects give the place an outstanding look. And the bar might have nice drinks and beers, but if the food is bad, I would have just called it a Nightclub and not a Restaurant. I arrived at around six o'clock on a Saturday evening. There was no one at the door to greet me. The Host's station was nicely decorated in a Halloween motif, but not even a ghost could be seen. I walked around the place and it was empty, except for a couple sitting in a small table in front of the bar and smoking a Hookah. If you enjoy smoking the Hookah, they had around four Hookahs with a menu full of different flavors, but I doubt they even had half of the flavors, because from my brief experience here, I was able to discover that this place is all show and no substance. Finally a nice young lady comes out of the kitchen and I asked her if the Restaurant was open for dinner. She told me it was and asked me to have a seat. I ordered a Coke to drink, the Shrimp Skewers as a starter, and the Status Burger as the main entrée. When the shrimps arrived, I asked my server for some utensils. She comes out with a dirty fork that was like it was used and never washed wrapped in a paper napkin. It was all sticky. I ended up eating the shrimps from the stick. The Burger and fries was not any better. The bun didn't seem fresh and the patty was dry. The fries were many but I just couldn't eat them, after just trying a few. I asked if they had the very much advertised Funnel Cake Fries. She went to the kitchen and told me they had ran out. My waitress was very kind and offered to give me a tour of upstairs, where the Nightclub was. There were different areas with sofas which the customers had to pay for to sit in, and a bar with only high end drinks. And of course, a dance floor. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place. She told me that they also had two pool tables downstairs where customers could play for free. And that their Karaoke Nights were very popular. I thanked her for the tour. I wrote this review so you know what to expect if you go there. For me, this is simply not the status that I would like to have.

The biggest issue was that the restaurant's air conditioning was not working, and no one told us before we were seated. We had made reservations knowing there was a cancellation policy with fees for late cancellations, so once we were seated and had placed our order, we didn't feel comfortable leaving. It wasn't until after our order was taken that our server mentioned the AC was out, although by then it was obvious from how hot and uncomfortable the dining room had become. I want to be clear that this is not a reflection of our server or the staff. They were kind, professional, and I honestly don't know how they were able to work in those conditions. We appreciated the complimentary watermelon and feta salad, but it didn't make up for the overall experience. The meal lasted nearly two hours, with long waits before our order was taken and again before our food arrived. My husband became so overheated that he felt sick and had to leave the table before finishing his dinner, leaving my daughter and me to finish what was supposed to be a family meal alone. When my shrimp and grits finally arrived, they were only lukewarm. My disappointment is really with management. Guests should have been informed about the lack of air conditioning before being seated and offered the choice to dine elsewhere if another venue was available. I was also surprised that no manager came through the dining room to apologize, explain the situation, or thank guests for their patience. Unexpected maintenance issues happen, but clear communication and proactive guest service make all the difference. Unfortunately, that was missing during our visit.

One of my friends absolutely loved the food, but unfortunately I just had a bad experience and ended up getting sick. I don't know if it was from the food or not, but I definitely wasn't able to really eat after that. This was one of the main options at the location, so I didn't really have a choice. The first time we went, we got chicken wings, and the portion I was able to try before I got sick was really tasty. The second time we came back, I spoke directly with the waiter and asked him to check with the chef and just have a simple turkey sandwich made with only bread and turkey, so I could at least stomach something and get through the night. The first time we went, our waiter Aaron was very sweet and attentive. The second time, we had a different waiter whose name I don't know...he wasn't as attentive, but it was also busier in the evening so I understand that. Overall, my experience wasn't great personally, but my friend really enjoyed everything.
