    Cheesecake - very good!

Wow this place needs some love! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We came in i and thought the ambiance of the fire place and beautiful view were great.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Greeted by Kevin who was a great attentive server. I ordered the burger and fries and my husband got the game burger which was buffalo. We both enjoyed the burgers and couldn't believe all the disappointing reviews.

Wonderful experience & delicious food!!! My husband ordered the shrimp cocktail appetizer and I ordered the crab bisque soup!! Both were fantastic!! For dinner I ordered the filet, medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly! Melted like butter in my mouth! My husband had the New York strip, medium rare. He reports that it was excellent, flavorful and tender. We had the brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes for sides. The mashed potatoes were the weakest link of the meal, but not bad.

I'm dining here for the second time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My friend and I loved the ambiance, food, and service on our first visit, so I returned with my husband.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Although I had to cancel our reservation due to time conflicts, we were still able to dine as walk-ins in the trap room. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After enjoying the warm spring bath, our dinner date was lovely.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This place is worth driving to for relaxation and a food adventure.

This dinner was the best I've ever had. Service was great and very family friendly. The restaurant is a bit dim but the tables had their own rechargeable lamps, so that came in handy. Our server was very attentive. We ordered the French onion soup, it was so cheesy with the right amount of breading inside. The filet mignon was so juicy, the flavors really popped, I didn't even need the sauce that came with it. The salmon was perfect, I was so stuffed but couldn't stop eating it. The onion rings were superb, with cheese and sauce. We finished off with the lava cake, it had a vanilla sauce, great combination. I would eat here everyday!

The Jefferson is located in the beautiful Omni Homestead resort. Very nice views from our table. Travis was very knowledgeable and a helpful server. We began with delicious burrata salads. Next followed a veal chop and grilled salmon topped with crab; with asparagus and mac&cheeseWe recommend the salmon but not the veal chop. They Sous Vide the veal. It is tender but we found it too done (comes out medium well and we prefer medium rare) but really not much flavor. Tasted bland as if boiled as an example. The strawberry shortcake flambé was a cool presentation but fell short on flavor.

I brought my bf here for his bday dinner celebration and truly enjoyed our time there. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. If we could order more from it, we would. This restaurant is tucked right inside the Omni homestead hotel which parking is very tricky to find. My bf ended up parking around the corner and walking through the hotel. I wish we had come here during the day to really get the full experience of the hotel. The food at the restaurant is your typical American food. My salmon dish was done well and bf got the steak. Both were quite tasty.

Dry-aged Duck Breast and Maine Lobster Cavatelli and Cheese.
    Matthew S.

I'll spare you the 1,000 nuances as to why this was a great meal. The duck was good. I ate it quickly. The waiter was surprised at that. I ate it in probably 2 1/2 minutes. That was a record for me with duck. Anyways, The fancy Maine lobster Mac was the best Mac I've had in my entire life. I had it two nights in a row. The first time was great because I was so surprised. The second time was even better, like being welcomed into the home of a dear friend. One of the things I love about my wife is her respect for the moments I need to have with my food sometimes. Not one word was spoken of this or that. Just the sound of me purring like a homeless cat eating fresh tuna from the tuna lady that visits the dumpsters once a week. "The woes of this life will tarnish a good meal if you let it". - Me, just now.

Wedge salad with shrimp. This was $25
    Sydney G.

Yikes. I've been to Omnis before, and usually their food is decent, but the Jefferson was such a disappointment. I sat at the bar since I was by myself and the staff was friendly enough but the menu left much to be desired. I opted for a wedge salad and added shrimp at the bartender's recommendation. When it came out I laughed at the portion size. This was maybe 1/8 of a wedge rather than a true wedge salad. And while they were generous with the shrimp, I found them to be a little undercooked for my taste. All in all with tax and a tip, this salad cost me $32 and I left still hungry but unwilling to order anything else off the menu.

Slow roasted prime rib, sea scallops and shrimp dish. Cauliflower casserole and asparagus.
    Vivian C.

I'd say choose the restaurant over the taproom. Food comes fast and they are still warm. We tried the Jefferson's taproom but the food was on the lukewarm/cold side. My guess is they prioritize the restaurant. Having read the reviews, I think the food is better than expected. Hubby says the slow roasted prime rib is delicious. The sea scallops and tiger shrimp dish is nice, too, and the sauce is fantastic, albeit on the saltier side (same with the prime rib). The two side dishes are wonderful, especially the asparagus with lemon zest. Note that the portions for these dishes are huge. We were too full for dessert in the end. Service is very prompt and friendly. I like that the tables are spaced out which alleviates COVID concerns and allows for more privacy (really useful for those of us with toddlers, too).

Overpriced seafood tower. $75 for this?
    Carol J.

Oh the food was overpriced and not good at all. Captive audience, this tastes like cruise food. We shared the overpriced seafood platter which was skimpy with very mediocre ceviche which had so many onions you could not taste the seafood. Next was the 8oz filet which was just okay. The bread that accompanied our meal was also very burnt which was maybe to distract from the bad food? And we did it to ourselves with the devils food cake which was so so dry and tasted so so old. Please skip this place and "resort" altogether.

It seems the reviews are a mixed bag here. It didn't deter my family to dine here recently and the service and food was spot on excellent! We were staying at the Omni and couldn't have been more pleased with my dining experience here. The place was decorated a bit more modern than the rest of the resort. The main bar with lots of tv's are on display the moment you walk in here. The dining room is on the other side. They do have a more business casual dress policy, with a collared shirt required for men. I saw many people wearing jeans. Our server was very eager to please us and we had a corner booth for 7 people. A little tight if we all adults in the party (3 kids). The crab cake appetizer was great with zero filler and perfect for sharing an app with your SO. My baby had salmon (kids menu) with delicious mashed potatoes and cream corn (that was amazing). My wife and I split the 22oz cowboy ribeye and was cooked a perfect medium rare. Reminds me of Joe's Seafood, Steak, and Stone Crabs. It was that good. The sides we ordered was mac and cheese and spinach with big hunks of ham. The dessert was a homerun for me too. Yes, this place is expensive. What do you expect from a resort dining room? Great food and service. Check!

Both the food and the service were mediocre. For the price, they should put more effort into to the dining experience.

After being awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and entertainment venues, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Don Ho's Restaurant & Lounge in Hollins, Virginia, is a perfect example. Located off Lee Highway, in Hollins, Virginia, a road less traveled by me, until I decided to take it in search of this gem of a restaurant, which until then I had no idea it existed, even though it has been opened for 25 years. On its parking lot sign it clearly states "Serving The Area Since 2000." From the simple architectural design design of its building and humble entrance, you would never imagine what the inside would hold for you. As I opened the door and walked in, the first thing I saw was a little Christmas tree that you could tell was decorated with lots of love. The reasantly renovated dining room was clean and cozy with a combination of booths, tables and chairs, and some small high round tables with high chairs. In the center of the restaurant was a square counter with the cashier station, the Pepsi products machine, some desserts and Christmas decorations. As I was looking around a friendly and very hospitable waitress welcomed me and said I could have a seat anywhere I liked, handed me a copy of the menu, and took my drink order. I ordered a Pepsi to drink. After returning with my drink, she took my food order. I ordered a cup of their Chili Beans to start off with, and as my main entrée the Half Pound Black Angus Cheese Burger with their special fries. First of all the Chili Beans were amazing. One of the best that I have ever had, and one of my favorite foods. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and its food. Then came the burger. It was delicious with fresh soft burger buns and all the toppings a good burger should have. And their unique fries were one-of-a-kind. The waitress came by to check on me at the appropriate times and to provide drink refills. For dessert I had a slice of one of the best Key Lime Pies that I had ever had. The merengue on it tasted like the home-made one my mother used to make when I was growing up. When I was finished, my waitress encouraged me to go take a look at the Lounge in the back room. It was nice, with two pool tables, a colorful lit bar, tables and chairs, booths, large screen tv, and even a small stage. There, besides drinking and eating, you can shoot pool or sing karaoke. Smoking is allowed in the lounge, which has a special ventilation system. However, the restaurant side of the establishment is completely non-smoking. Before leaving I got to meet the owner himself and felt the great attachment he has for his restaurant of many years, for his staff that has been with him for years, for his loyal customers, and for his son and general manager Jo Jo, who is learning all he can from his dad and hopes one day to take over the restaurant and continue the family tradition. As I was leaving, after a very satisfying dining experience, I noticed some Award plaques on the wall. This year 2025, Don Ho's had cleaned up in the Roanoke Times readers awards for best bar, waitstaff, restaurant, burger and best customer service at a restaurant. I highly recommend this one-of-a-kind restaurant & lounge, and who knows, maybe when you go and visit, you'll run into me there, because I definitely am planning to return real soon.

And The Hangout Sports Bar and Lounge in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. Located on Williamson Road, in the Hollins area of Roanoke, Virginia, The Hangout is a sports bar, restaurant, and lounge, with a casual, friendly, and lively atmosphere, offering a mix of food, drinks, and entertainment like pool tables, live music, and karaoke, among others. People gather there for lunch, for dinner, or just to have a drink or two as they spend some time chatting with their friends. I arrived around three o'clock to have a late lunch and visit the place for the first time. The bar was completely full with customers drinking and having fun conversations. Other customers were enjoying themselves playing pool on one of the many pool tables. During the day, customers are welcomed to play pool for free and in the evenings for a small fee. I walked over to the bar counter and asked the friendly bartender, Mitch, if they were still serving lunch and if I could seat at one of the booths. He told me they were and to go ahead and have a seat at the booth of my choice. Soon after he came by with the menu and took my drink order. I asked if he could make me a Piña Colada Mocktail and he did. It tasted amazing. Beside the regular menu they also had an All Day Specials menu for every day of the week from Monday through Friday. To dine I ordered a BBQ Burger from the regular menu. It was served with fries. Meanwhile everytime a customer came in, you could immediately tell he was a regular by the warm greeting he received from the bartender and other customers there. When my server/bartender brought my burger, it looked wonderful. Fresh burger buns with an all beef 1/3 lb burger, topped with white American cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce, and onions. I poured some ketchup on it from a squeeze bottle by server had brought me and put on my table. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. My server introduced me to the owner of the place, Lori, a very warm and welcoming lady who opened this establishment in 2021and since then has made it a very popular place focusing on making it a casual environment and a fun spot where locals and visitors can socialize and have a good time. After all, its slogan, written under its front sign, states: "Good Food, Good People ... Great Times." Featuring a full bar, including draft beers, hard liquor and cocktails, quality comfort food at affordable prices, entertainment such as indoor and outdoor stages for bands to play live music, karaoke, and games like pool and cornhole, and a friendly crew to top it off, the only negative thing that I could find was tight parking, but at night customers can park on the parking lot of the business on their left and in a space across the street. I highly recommend this place for some good times and can't wait for the Spring and Summer to arrive to return with friends and enjoy all the creative things they have to offer.
