First and foremost, the haircut I received from Adrian C. was top notch, nearly every bit five stars, except the times he pinned, folded, and otherwise held down my ears like a high school wrestler manipulating a rival. If you're going to cut around the ear, I get it, but if you're buzzing another part of my head, please let go of the ear. We aren't dating and I don't know you that well. The cleanliness of Elevate immediately signaled to me care and attention. The polished concrete floors were promptly cleaned and the decor was fresh and hip. While I'm sure the boys in the shop enjoyed the musical selections, I did not. These boys from the shop are boys from the hood. I'm told by reading information from the business, the owner enjoys playing "good" music; I beg to differ. In John Pinette lingo, "I say, nay, nay." The speakers, obviously prized for their clarity, carried the rhymes and rhythms of vulgarity. The demeaning social vernacular of words I would not use directed towards anyone, used to speak about women, or repeated racial slurs made me crawl under the barber's cape. The last "song" that was playing had the lyric "leave your panties on my nightstand." When I googled to try and find out what song was playing, I learned this: Regarding the broader context of leaving underwear on a nightstand at night, health experts often suggest that sleeping without underwear is beneficial for vaginal health, as it allows the area to breathe, prevents trapping moisture, and reduces the risk of infections, such as yeast infections. Never once did I think that going to the barber shop would be a dangerous situation. I came in on 6/16 for quick buzz cut. The only barber available was joey. Mind you there were multiple customers sitting in the lobby refusing to cut with him (instant red flag that I overlooked). He sat me down and the moment he started talking I knew something was off. He was *UNDER THE INFLUENCE* of some kind of drug/meth. Very slow cognitive behavior, excessive sniffling, extremely finicky hands, as well twitching his head for no reason, As he started cutting my head with trimmer I realized he was exerting an insane amount of pressure all over my head for no reason at all. I ignored it at first (as people make mistakes). After a while it got worse and worse as he was applying even more pressure! At this point I called him out and asked him to let off the pressure. He responds with "oh ok". By now all the other barbers were looking at him nodding their heads, rolling their eyes, baffled by his actions. I wish it ends here... the barber then pulls out a straight blade and lacerates my entire forehead with multiple cuts!! WHAT THE ACTUAL F%@K DUDE? His reaction was "wooooow that's crazy I cut you dawg" *grabs a dirty hair brush and rubs it all over my open wounds*. At this point I was extremely angry; I got up and said I will not be paying for this awful service. He walks to the back to ""fix it"", And I instantly walk out the shop with an incomplete haircut, multiple open cut wounds, and an immediate trip to kaisers urgent care. If you still insist on coming here after reading my horrendous experience (along with others), PLEASE make sure you have health insurance. This could have easily been a life threatening situation had he used the straight blade on my neck. Please get rid of that barber (joey) and keep our community safe. read more

Do not get a haircut from Cameron Mayes. I have a medical condition, and Cameron kept bullying me for it. Each time I had to ask Cameron to fix the haircut that he kept messing up, he just got more and more agitated, abusive, passive aggressive, and started throwing small quips to harrass me regarding my medical condition. On top of all that, I was cut by a blade multiple times on multiple areas. I had to ask to fix the haircut 5 times, up to the point where I felt it futile to ask to fix it again and Cameron's gaslighting was too much. The haircut was uneven on all sides, I received a high fade on my left side and a medium fade on my right side, longer and thicker patches hairs sticking out of random areas, etc. The haircut was so bad, I had to shave my head bald when I got home. Josh did a wonderful job on my son's hair. He took his time and made sure it was perfect. He really made the experience very enjoyable for my kids. He was so nice and friendly to both of my kids (One getting the hair cut and the other a spectator). Chatting with them and giving them great advice. I highly recommend him and I know my son would love to get his hair cut by Josh again. The lighting inside of this store is insane and the couches are nice to chill on while you wait. They take all of the covid19 precautions and have dividers between all of the barbers. Make sure to make an appointment online or you aren't going to get in for a cut. I haven't cut my hair in over a year because I'm lazy and not going anywhere. Pretty nice joint! The owner is hands on and always willing to get down on hair. His staff is really friendly and helpful. It's a spacious barbershop and they have TV's, music and water to make sure you're comfortable. We usually go to Popular Demand in Alhambra and surprisingly it's the same owner as this barbershop . Highly recommend if you live in the area and need a good fade or hairstyle. I always take my husband and brother to get hooked up and they never disappoint. Visited Elevate as a walk-in during opening hours to get a beard trim. There was one barber at the time and he graciously saw me after he finished his current client. The experience was fine; the barber was polite and spent about 15 minutes on my beard. He didn't ask me very much, but I wish I spoke up a little more as he was working. When I returned home, I looked in the mirror and spotted many touch-ups that needed to happen. The worst was the length of hair on the sides of my face, one side was short where the other side had about 4 inches of hair. Quick, but careless. My step son stays with us on weekends, and we just moved to the area. I was out picking up lunch with him and decided to find a local place for a quick hair cut for him. This place came up at the top of the list with decent reviews, and it was around the corner from the Wingstop we were at. Called and they said they had a barber available, stopped by, and almost immediately we were tended to. The cut did take a minute, but the barber did do a good job, so no complaints there. The only complaint I really did have was they only take cash! Come on fam, it's 2023, who carry's cash on them these days...
