Service was excellent by Andrew, he seemed professional and quick, however, there were other men at a different barbers station who were talking to him while he worked on a client as well (tall guy with glasses). Not sure if they were friends or other clients, but their language was FOUL. I normally wouldn't mind but my two year old was watching them yell back and forth at each other, cussing like crazy. It was so uncomfortable and it's like they didn't care that there was a small child in their presence. Definitely not family oriented. Came here on a whim when the usual place I take my son to get his haircut wasn't responding or even open. I called ahead to see if it was busy and thankfully it wasn't. It was in the morning around 10:30ish so I figured it wouldn't be but I always check first. As we were driving over to get my son's hair cut, I received a text message asking if we were still coming. The shop was empty except for one other barber with a customer. We were immediately greeted and my son was able to ask for what he wanted. I debated whether or not I should leave a review for Protocol barber shop, but ultimately decided to do so to give folks transparency and awareness of what they may be walking into. Although I received a good haircut at a great price (the haircut alone is worthy of a 4 star ranking), I won't be returning to this shop and advise folks - specifically women who are masc-presenting, queer folks, and trans-folks - this is not a space you will feel comfortable in. Hence, the reason for my 1-star review. When I arrived, the shop was full and nearly every barber was busy with their clients - which is a great sight to see. Moments after hopping into the chair, my barber started teasing/poking fun at another one of the barbers for "being gay". Perhaps this was his way of "cracking jokes" with his friends - which was certainly off-putting. But then he made statements about his views on trans-folks, which made me feel highly uncomfortable and gave me the ick. This shop is moreso a spot for cis-men. Quality haircuts? Yes. But certainly not a comforting or inclusive space for the queer + trans community. read more

Came to try out this new spot I came a cross while eating and one our favorite spots. First impressions the spot looked really clean and brand new. There was a sign up sheet for walk ins so after about 20 minutes I was in a chair. Tim the barber was very nice and welcoming and made me feel comfortable. He did an awesome job with my fade and my youngest son's fade. He used a hot towel and straight edge razón for clean lines. Chano did my oldest son fade and also did a really really good job. These men obviously been doing this for sometime and take pride in their work. It is always a scary experience walking in to a barber shop but these guys were very welcoming and full of jokes which made the time pass quickly. Came as a walk in for my brother and the barber took him right away. Cut and cleaned up quickly. Staff was friendly and professional. They have a waiting room with a TV for your entertainment and a parrot to keep you company. Only downfall was that the bird had feed and feathers all over floor and outside of cage. Seriously, wasn't sure if I was going to write a review or what to do about it, but here I am. First off, I will never recommend the barber I went to and only speaking for their quality of their work and attention to detail. Came here on an evening and when I walked in there was only a single barber, by the name of Niko. When I walked in Niko asked if I called in for an appointment, I stated that I did not and he said that was okay, that he had another haircut in a half hour. I thanked him and stated that I really just needed a haircut because I had a job interview the next day and explained I just wanted a scissor trim. He was trimming my hair with scissors and cutting from side to side and it seemed like he was just cutting randomly. I mentioned that I wanted to get around the ears trimmed up a little bit more and he said he was going to get to it at the end. Halfway through my haircut, he interjected that my haircut was going to be more because my hair was longer, mind you my hair is only 3 inch long, and he only took an inch off. I was already in mid cut and didn't really know what to say but I just said okay and let him do his work. The next appointment showed up and after that it seemed rushed. After he said he was all done, he asked me to check it out, and without my glasses it looked ok. Charged me $40, wasn't expecting it to be that much,but I paid and I went on my way. When I got home and took a shower my girlfriend, exclaimed "what the heck happened to my hair and laughed..." Apparently one side of the back of my head was almost 2 inches longer than other(yes, my girlfriend took a ruler to it and took photos just to show me), the sideburns were not even, and the back of the neck was even lined up properly." She said it look like a 8-year-old tried to cut my hair. I was pretty embarrassed and pissed off to have a wack haircut the day before an important job interview. Ended up having my girlfriend tried to fix it and make it look decent. Worst haircut of my adult life and huge waste of time and money. Felt like I was squeezed in for the money and the cruddy work was of little concern. I wouldn't go to Niko or ever recommend. read more
