Nice corner restaurant in Keswick Village. On a snowy night the day after Christmas we made our 2nd visit here, the only other patrons there were a retirement party. The roasted lamb was a special for the evening & was outstanding. And the accompanying lemon potatoes were very tasty as well. If you're on a tight budget this restaurant may seem a bit pricey but if you're celebrating a night out by all means Elia is well recommended. read more

On my road trip, I stumbled upon this spot. I was initially heading towards another restaurant but when I saw the amount of cars parked outside the restaurant, I knew that was my sign to check this spot instead. No doubt I made the right choice. I have been to other authentic Greek spots before. Yet there were quite a few dishes that I never heard of before. So that's a good sign! The weather was really great today so we opted for the outdoor seating. (Unfortunately, the view ... Is of the parking lot. However, you're surrounded by a lot of trees so you can kind of see the foliage. We ordered: Appetizer: Saganaki Meli (Pan fried feta cheese wrapped in phyllo dough, topped with honey and sesame seeds) -- the blend of the saltiness from the cheese and the sweetness from the honey really complimented each other well! Entrees: Moussaka (Roasted layers of eggplants, potatoes and seasoned ground beef in tomato sauce, topped with bechamel sauce) Ngl, it reminded me of an eggplant lasagna Stuffed Haddock Florentine (Broiled Haddock filets, stuffed with spinach, scallions and feta cheese, topped with olive oil, lemon and garlic sauce) served with lemon potatoes This was one of the special dishes of the day and the waitress highly praised the dish. This place is a hidden gem. Been twice and loved it both times. The food and service are top notch. The ambiance is cozy and unpretentious. We had 3 dips (hummus, eggplant, feta whip) with warm pita and it was a great start. I had the haddock special which was haddock stuffed with spinach Florentine, feta in a light lemon sauce. Service is great here, they treat you like friends vs customers is is such a rarity. They are such a nice team here. I actually came here not feeling too well and they took such great care. Calamari is a must have - there was just the right amount of breading and such a great texture - the perfect balance between crispy and tender. There marina it came with was so delicious too. Avgolemeno (Greek lemon chicken soup) - my all time favorite soup as long as I didnt make it. I have been turning the internet upside down learning how to make avgolemeno but to no avail. They use orzo here and with generous chunks of chicken as well as the portion itself. I even got a quart to go for only $12! Moussaka - absolutely amazing here. This, along with Pastichio, tends to be overly salty in many places, but it is perfect here. They do not load it with tomato sauce and the eggplants were prepared so well that you can just but into it. Pastichio - super delicious, but I am worried because it was featured on their "specials" so I am low key panicking I won't be able to get it again next visit. And the lemon potatoes it comes with? So good! Tender and zesty potatoes! The portions here are generous, and everything is so well proportioned. The staff was super friendly and attentive--especially our server, Barb, who was absolutely amazing. Barb's warm, professional service and great recommendations really made the night feel special. Tonight was my second visit and it was just as fabulous as the first a couple of months ago. YUM. It's easy to miss this gem in Keswick but it is absolutely worth a stop. They take reservations and have an outdoor dining area if people-watching is your thing. The hummus is out of this world. Served with a collection of fresh cucumber pieces and pickled carrots, the hummus served with warm pita is a-ma-zing! Do yourself a favor and get an extra order of pita ($1) because you will want every drop. One of us had the fresh branzino. It comes to the table with all of its parts attached but is easily de-boned at the table. It was a lovely tasting fish and the lemon potatoes it was served with were incredible. The other of us got the chicken souvlaki. Perfectly marinated and served on the kabob, it was very flavorful. It's served with fries and tzatziki sauce. They increased their prices, but we were so impressed by the quality of the food. We got the mix grilled platter, tyrokafteri (recommended by the waitress), and baklava. The savory dishes were so flavorful and the baklava really fragrant (I have a pistachio allergy so it was nice finding one with just walnuts and almonds). Just get what we got and you won't go wrong. Recently we ordered three dishes from Elia's catering menu for a party at our home: a gorgeous Greek salad; spanakopita; and a Greek lasagna. All were absolutely delicious! and so easy for us to serve. Each dish came in its own large aluminum pan----directly from Elia's oven to our buffet. Easy from beginning to end. The salad, topped with lots of feta, was so fresh. The spanakopita had holes punched in the aluminum lid so that the pastry was delicate and crispy. Our meat-eating friends enjoyed the Greek lasagna with its creamy bechamel topping. We were proud to serve this meal and happy that everyone enjoyed it so much! read more

I had been unable to find a Greek restaurant in Philadelphia that had good spinach pie - until now. The Spanakopita at Elia is as good as any I've ever had! The phyllo pastry layers were buttery and flaky, with a thick, luscious spinach, feta and herb filling. My partner and I both were surprised, and pleased at the large portion size, because we were sharing the pie and the Lamb Chops! I was savoring the spanakopita when I bit into one of the lamb chops. While I didn't expect the chops to reach to level of excellence of the pie, they easily did. They were delicious, tender and juicy, with a distinctively rich and savory taste. I am surprised by some ratings saying the food was mediocre. I've had my share of expensive, mediocre meals. This definitely is not that. I thought it was deserving of 5 stars. The portions are very large so you can make additional meals. I highly recommend the calamari, in sauce, rolled up into a pita. Quite delicious. The Greek hoagie was good. Lemon potatoes were yummy. I had the chicken special & my daughter got the pasta special which came with the lemon potatoes. Potatoes were good but not a good side for a pasta dish. My chicken was ok. We ate less than 50%, just too large of a portion. Wish I had gotten the entree size Greek salad with a protein. That is what I will get next time. Maybe a side of those lemon potatoes. Was our first visit, in town for a concert. Love Greek food, and had high hopes based on the ratings and Yelper review. I've been fortunate to pick a string of great places over many months; however, this time was disappointing. Our experience was underwhelming. The plating presentation where the best part, but the actual meals were disappointing. The flavor fell flat, bland, and not inspiring. My wife ordered the Pastitsio, odd to have lemon potatoes on the plate with a pasta-based dish without any vegetables; very odd and poorly thought out. I had the Gemista and was shocked to find just rice and some chopped peppers and no ground beef at all. Not what I'm used to, been spoiled by my #1 go-to for Greek in Princeton NJ. Basically, I ate a grilled tomato and pepper with salad for my dinner leaving over all the rice; not something I eat. Luckily I asked for double salad in place of the lemon potatoes which was on every meal and if not, it was french fries. Not real Greek cuisine to us. The pork chops I received were hammered, zero juiciness and had very little seasoning. It was just above eating shoe leather. I asked for medium and was told the kitchen will only cook pork well done. What is this 2010??? Come on, get with the modern era please. We just ate at Elia for the first time, although we had eaten at Athena, a previous incarnation, many times. We loved it! The BYOB is a big plus. Everything we had was excellent, especially the spreads like Tzatziki and Melitzanoslata (you should get them free if you can spell them correctly), the Haddock Place entree and the obscenely flaky and delicious Baklava. And the prices are ridiculously reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. We had enough left over for a whole new dinner at home. It was... okay. I felt like the person who sat me didn't want me to be there. When I walked in, they asked if I had a reservation, which I didn't. They seemed very bothered by this (even though the restaurant was 80% empty) and said the best they could do was put me at a cramped table right at the corner all the servers were walking around. I said that was fine which they seemed a bit surprised by. I was thinking maybe they just have a bunch of reservations soon, but when I finished my meal, the restaurant was still more than half empty, including multiple 4-seat tables. The food itself was decent. My partner got the gemista which was really good actually. I got the veggie moussaka which was decent where it was actually hot - some of it was too hot to eat while other parts were still cold. Lots of other Greek options in the area so I think I'll try someplace else in the future. read more
