One of my friends lives in the area and I was visiting for dinner. We decided to try the box of amazingness ( not the official name but should be) and we were NOT disappointed. If anything, it was more impressive looking in person. The box is said to serve 3 but it could easily feed 5 if people eat regular portions. We weren't sure what the sauces would be like so I sprung for all of them. The tzatziki was our ultimate fave - putting a bit on the pita and then adding some of the chicken. The chicken and pork could have been a bit juicier, but adding the sauce and making a little pita sandwich helped. Wanted to love this place, but the food was genuinely terrible. The chicken gyro was overwhelmingly salty, and the vegetables tasted old clearly drenched in lemon to mask the issue. The pita was rock hard and stale. Falafel was extremely dry, the hummus had an odd, unpleasant flavor, and the kofta was dry, tough, and completely inedible. Even the fries were overcooked and awful. When a place puts always fresh, never frozen on the front of every menu, that is what I expect. The only fresh unfrozen ingredients were the tomatoes and onions. The star of every gyro is FROZEN French fries. Sigh. The beef/lamb sticks for the meat are definitely frozen. And the meat was crispy and tough. I love authentic never frozen fresh Greek food. This place was so disappointing I had to review it. Cost was very fair for what you get. But they 100% are a frozen fast food joint advertising as fresh. As a rookie to Greek Cuisine the staff was more than accommodating helping me decipher the menu and entrees. We chose gyros he the pork and I chicken. I appreciated being able to have a side salad as opposed to fries, but if you opt for the fries, they add them TO your gyro in addition to having them on the side. Indoor seating is quite limited, and the parking lot a bit jumbled - but there are plenty of outdoor tables to enjoy your 'fresh fast food" It is so nice to be able to grab a quick bite that isn't the same old thing as well as not being a fast-food joint. I highly recommend checking them out and If you can't make it to Maple Glen there is a second location just near the Roosevelt Mall in NE Philly. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We ordered two of the platters: the chicken souvlaki and the beef and lamb kofta. Both platters were fantastic. The chicken was grilled perfectly, very juicy . The beef/lamb combo was also very tasty. There are options for sides, we tried the green beans (a very nice surprise) and the fries (freshly fried and tasting great). Family owned Greek restaurant that makes your food once you order for freshness. They gave me a massive portion of Moussaka - made with baked or pan fried eggplants and potatoes, a rich, tomatoey beef or lamb mince sauce and topped off with a deliciously creamy bechamel sauce. What I can say about their Moussaka is it did elicit a flavor that I am not used to, I wanted to say cinnamon after I had my first bite but after thinking about it maybe it was a lamb mince sauce. I finished approximately 75% of the Moussaka after having to take a time out. Like I said, a very large portion, that also comes with a few pieces of pita. The cheese really stood out in a positive way with it being creamy and not mozzarella like which I was expecting. Reason I was expecting it being mozzarella like is only for the fact it has been a very, very long time since I had Greek food : ) I would come back to try more of their items and recommend you stop in if your jonesing for some Greek cuisine. I had the moussaka and the hummus. The humus is heavier and darker than homemade or store-bought. This is because of the to-go container, so the carrots, cucumber, and pita do not get coated before you get to your destination. I ate in. It was tasty, but I am not a fan. He had a gyro that he loved and devoured, I ordered a moussaka, a medley of ground beef, rich and savory tomato with thin strips of eggplant, topped with a bechamel (white cream) sauce. I love tzatziki and this one didn't disappoint. The spicy feta dip seemed packaged though and the hummus was very strange. I honestly don't know what type of bean they used. They had a great flavor and adding the feta made them even more yummy. I felt like the tzatziki sauce needed more dill though. I was very disappointed in the hummus. It had no flavor at all. It's like they forgot the garlic. For mains, we got the Beef and Lamb Koftka which were pretty good. Good flavor. The spicy feta sauce was very good. The lemon potatoes were the best part. They were such a different flavor and soooo yummy. My husband had Toasted Sub which was huge. He only ate half of it. He said it was really good. My daughter had the chicken gyro which was delicious. Last night we wanted something fresh and wonderful so for the first time we didn't Doordash it - we went there and then ate our food outside at the park. Our food was so so so so delicious - fresh - hot - juicy - crispy. The spinach triangles are always so delicious. The chicken souvlaki - amazing. This time I tried something new - felafel pita sandwich - WOW!!! amazing! And as always the best dessert ever - is the Bougatsa. This is crunchy filo dough baked with a vanilla custard inside - served warm It is so delicious - it's a MUST TRY. This place is the real thing. Food is delicious - it's really good food - from a good food distributor - chicken is always soft, tender and juicy - not crunchy like in some places. Really impressed! Just moved to the area and tried it for the first time. Got takeout for lunch. Ordered the souvlaki platter for 2. Came with chicken gyro, pork gyro, chicken souvlaki, pork souvlaki, beef/lamb kofta, fries, pita and a spread (we chose hummus). We also ordered a side of rice with carrots and peas, and a side of the spicy feta. Plenty of food for 2 adults and a toddler. Delicious! Meat is super juicy and flavorful. Can't stand when you get dry meat on a stick but definitely not the case here. And for the amount of food and variety for the price- can't beat it. We have tons left to eat again. Def recommend the hummus and spicy feta- wasn't spicy to us but so creamy and delicious. Everything looks homemade. We also got dessert but haven't tried it yet, though it looks yummy. The only downside was that the fries were soggy from being thrown into the plate with everything else but most fries are soggy when you get takeout anyway so nothing particular to this place. (And we don't mind soggy fries cuz we usually air fry them anyway to crisp back up) So so glad to have an authentic gyro place near us. And as an added bonus, workers there were super nice and thankful. This spot will be a keeper in our list of takeout options. Highly recommend! read more
