Called Ballard Electric again (on a Friday) because my garage car charger stopped working. They set…read morean appointment for today (Monday) and sent Victor and Peter out to troubleshoot. In the meantime, I had several placed to be over the weekend and ended up going to a public rapid charger to get enough power to make it to various appointments, but it was stressful as my battery was only at 40 miles. Peter and Victor discovered that the breaker switch needed to be replaced (which was what I suspected because it kept flipping to neutral rather than staying off or on). Victor said the breaker switch was a "Home Depot special" but a good one. However, they didn't have it on their truck and their usual suppliers didn't carry that model, so they needed to get it from Home Depot (HD). The HD by my house was out so they had to go to the next city over to pick one up. They were back in about an hour with the new switch and changed it out very quickly. I asked them about switching out some exterior lights, but told them that the garage car charger was the priority. Since it took so long to get the new switch (they didn't get back to the house until almost 5 p.m.), I called Kyle to set up a new date for them to come back and replace the lights on the outside of the house for me. Victor and another electrician will be back on Wednesday to replace seven exterior lights for me. Obviously, Ballard Electric is my go-to for all my electrical needs. I DO NOT RECOMMEND DIAL SECURITY TO ANYONE -- ESPECIALLY IF YOU RELY ON THEM TO PROTECT YOUR FAMILY AND HOME. (sorry for the all-caps) After having alarm monitoring services for over 5 years I had no choice but to cancel my service with Dial Security (DS). DS is a family run business, with many of the children having only mixed experience in security. I decided to finally cancel services and provided over a month of notice to Fallon Dundas (family member). At that time there was no mention of a premature termination fee. 21 days later, Blake Dundas (a family member, who graduated from high school just over 5 year ago), mailed me an unsigned invoice for an early termination fee. I explained that no signatures/initials were signed on the contract agreeing to any fees, etc., but with his lack of business experience, all he could repeat is "...my hands are tied [ted] as the contractual obligations need to be fulfilled as the contract itself as a whole is binding..." I am guessing he recited language he learned in school. Blake then threatened to forward this to their legal department (probably mommy or daddy) to pursue legal action for final payment of the disputed $357.62. Not to worry, I have a real attorney. It is my understanding that their "central station". or monitoring center is not UL (underwriters laboratories). According to UL, being UL certified is an alarm company's "declaration that the alarm system equipment, installation, maintenance and service meet, and often exceed, minimum standard requirements. Being UL listed is an industry standard for monitoring centers around the country. I can recall the alarm going off in the middle of the night awaking my entire family, believing we had a home invasion. I walked through the house knowing the safety of my family was in immediate danger and our lives were at risk. Luckily, it was just a fallen sensor from a door, which activated the alarm (more about installation further down). What is perhaps even worse, is that the company we relied on for our safety and security wasn't there when we needed them; we never received a call from DS. Had there been an actual intruder, no help would have ever come and my family could have been hurt or worse. On other occasions, DS did call, but only after 10+ minutes. I recall speaking to a representative who called after an activated alarm; she explained, "... business alarms take priority over residential..." Hence why going with a larger company makes sense. Other times when DS called after an alarm, oftentimes they didn't ask for our code word (used to indicate we are safe). Completely unacceptable and a complete disregard to my safetly. Regarding the original installation - it was a sloppy, disorganized, unprofessional mess that left the new system in an inoperable state. There were literally extra drill holes in walls/ceilings, sensors installed incorrectly, chipped paint, a sensor literally hanging off a wall by wires, and debris left at two entrances. During the installation, one technician advertised that "... this has been a, "chaotic, disorganized job from the start..." It was disconcerting to hear this directly from an employee even though this had been our impression. As you know, Scott actually walked off the job and left during the installation. John indicated Scott has a history of doing this on previous jobs. All of my complaints and issues were documented and immediately communicated to either Colby Dundas [former assistant sales manager, Melissa Dundas [sales manager], Fallon Dundas [central station supervisor, Blake Dundas [business manager], Bill Dundas [general manager] (all family members), and Bryan Buck [former operations manager]. Just in case you are still reading this, let me repeat, I DO NOT RECOMMEND DIAL SECURITY TO ANYONE.

We hired him to install a hardwired network in our home, install speakers, and replace wiring. The cost seemed excessive for the work performed--much of it consisted of simply taping new wires to old ones and pulling them through the walls, which appeared to be a very basic job. For the CAT5 installation appointments, he canceled multiple times for various reasons, including not having the correct wiring or supplies, medical issues, and confusion about the scheduled day. He was also never clear about his start time, which made scheduling very frustrating. We also had him replace an old cable box in a closet with a larger one. The work was poorly done. While some drywall damage might be expected, the box itself was not secured properly, and all the wiring was placed behind it in a disorganized manner. Later, when we contacted our cable company for an unrelated issue, we discovered that our home already had CAT5 wiring installed. We were unaware of this at the time. Either he knew this and chose not to tell us, or he didn't recognize existing wiring--neither option reflects well on his professionalism or competence. We ultimately saved thousands of dollars by hiring another company that simply tested the existing wires and added wall ports. Overall, the experience was a complete waste of time and money. I would never trust this company to do work in my home again. At best, the service was incompetent; at worst, it felt dishonest.

This left me shaken up. I spoke with several other companies and then Vernon came out. I can say that immediately you feel safe in his presence and it's very clear he cares about ensuring people are safe and FEEL safe in their homes. He is a former cop and it shows. He is someone with the experience and instincts to really understand safety and that was very apparent in our conversations. He's not a salesman - he's a security expert who knows what you need and is honest and direct. He didn't try to upsell me on excessive unnecessary items like other companies. He asked about my goals and truly sought to understand exactly what I wanted before giving his suggestions. I asked tons of questions which he answered thoroughly and patiently. The best part about the experience was he could instantly tell I was shaken up from a previous incident and was so compassionate while still being direct. He talked to me about how to keep myself safe in case of another break-in given the layout of the new house and improve overall house safety in other ways. He even noticed the doors weren't installed correctly and missing tiny parts that make a door super easy to kick in. You don't always get more bang for your buck and it's definitely much more expensive than a DIY Google Nest self install, but I will sleep better at night knowing I got the true expert advice I needed to keep myself and my home safe. Due to the permitting system in the area and the issues with the owner of the house I lease there may be issues with getting one feature but I am going very out of my way to find a way to get what he thinks I need.
