Joyce Dugan from the Saturday Club was nice and easy to work with. Since they didn't have a Friday event, they gave us keys on Friday and allowed us to do set up Friday evening and Saturday morning. They did provide the tables and chairs and set them up on Friday for us which was awesome. The employee Chris was there in the office during the wedding if we needed anything. The place is really cute and was the perfect size for our wedding. We had just the perfect amount of room for the number of table and chairs we used and enough room on the dance floor. There is a little area/ private room near the bathrooms that serves as the bridal suite and also a great place to nurse my son and for other nursing moms. The price was great and I love what the money goes towards. I would absolutely recommend this for a wedding of 50-90 guests or for other events. This would also be a great spot for bridal and baby showers. And they worked so well with our caterer. We put the photo booth in the front vestibule area. The Appleford Estate is a beautiful gem in Villanova, just off of Spring Mill Rd. Gifted to LM Township in the early seventies, it had been transformed into a popular venue for weddings and various other receptions. The facility operates mainly from May until early November as it accommodates outdoor functions. The patio area, where most parties take place, is provided with a large vinyl structure which can be heated during the cooler weather. It's my understanding there are several caterers who service the facility so there are options. We happen to go in early November and the weather was on the cooler side. The heaters were fair, not great. In my opinion if the event had been planned in September or early October, our experience might have been different. This place is really one that should be seen in person with idea of a spring/summer affair.

I don't understand it, but it seems like the folks are just there to drink and have screaming loud conversations. That's fine and fun if you have not, again, paid for a ticket to HEAR A BAND. So, if you're not sitting within a few feet of the stage, it's hard to give the music a good listen. And if it's an acoustic set, you're probably out of luck altogether. We paid a bit extra for seats in the balcony and it was sweet the way they put nametags out to save our spots, but the noisy crowd directly behind us, non-stop, made it necessary to abandon those seats. The lower level wasn't much better until we moved very close to the stage. If there had been a big crowd, we would have been out of luck. Other friends have had similar experiences. The cocktails were expensive but yummy. The place was clean and cute. It's a shame the crowd was so rude and there's nothing anyone can, or will, do about it. This region has some great live music venues; this is not one of them.

I twice toured Duportail House when I was looking to plan an event. It's a charming, historic venue…read morenestled in a quiet neighborhood, and everyone I encountered there was friendly and helpful. I especially loved that there are so many options for where to hold an event - several rooms in the house itself, the charming porch out front, and the cool barn next to the house. I didn't know that the barn was on the property but I really liked its rustic vibe. (Though I could imagine in the fall the giant trees around it raining down nuts and other seasonal tree bits!) I also like that there's a hotel nearby for out of town guests. I mostly worked with Kate, who was very responsive over email and is obviously an expert in her field. She helped me realize that there's something to be said for the personal touch you get when working with a staff dedicated to one venue, rather than some of the big event companies who can make you feel like just another number. Ultimately I decided to go with the city vibe so picked a different boutique venue in Philadelphia proper, but I'd definitely recommend checking out Duportail, especially if you're mostly having a local gathering.

We researched places all over Philly and the surrounding suburbs. I had been to a college formal at Washies Memorial Hall so I suggested checking it out. We ended up deciding it was a great option for the following reasons: Large space-- I believe the max is right around 250 people Plenty of parking/transportation options- this spot has a large parking lot AND it is easily walkable from the Conshohocken train station Appeal of Conshohocken- it has hotel options that were walkable from Washies, there were bars within a few blocks for the afterparty, and it is right off 476 and 76 Food and drink options- super affordable (see my PTG Catering review for a review of the food) Our party was this past Saturday and it was a huge hit. The staff at Washies was very helpful during the planning process and on the day of the event. All our guests were impressed by the space and had a great time. I highly recommend Washies Memorial Hall for your next event!

He made comments to us about how he wasn't being paid to stay after 11 even thought we were just finishing cleaning up and it was still 10:30. He also closed up the bar an hour before our event ended and wouldn't even get water or soda for anyone. Last year we hoped he was just in a bad mood. This year I think he's just legitimately a jerk. We already decided we're taking the event elsewhere next time.
