He did not show up nor would he answer our calls. He finally came out for one half day in mid October and worked six hours placing 4 out of the eight ducts. Then he disappeared never to be heard from. Because of impending winter we were forced to hire another contractor to complete the work. Mr doughty refuses to return any of our $ 10,000 as of January 24, 2023. DO NOT use this man.

Contracted with him July 2021 to install a heat pump system for 16K giving him a 8K deposit to purchase equipment/materials and get started. He agreed to have "heat" available by end of October 2021. He cut holes in our floor but little work was done after that. All contact was by text only. Mid-October we were frantic due to lack of progress and his habit of "no-showing" us when he promised to work. Delivered equipment was still sitting around in boxes/wrapping. Nothing was installed/hookep up after almost four months! When he did respond to our texts, Ken was full of excuses stating his other jobs were "emergencies". He stated via texts our stuff would "in" by end of October 2021. That didn't happen as he again failed to show up to work on days promised. By mid-November we fired Ken and hired another company to complete the job. Ken picked up his tools, then dunned us for an additional $4600 final payment besides the 8K initial deposit. Internet research showed that 8K deposit more than covered cost of equipment/materials delivered and the 28 hours of labor listed on final invoice. The fiinal inovice showed that he "marked up" the equipment/materials costs by more than 100% even though still in boxes and not working. He claimed this was "his profit" on a job that he wasn't even wiling to work on! We ignored this final invoice believing he was not entitled to such an outrageous "profit". He applied for a state permit (required before work starts) almost 2 months after we fired him. He then used the permit/inspection process to "gouge" the $4600 amount from us, he would not "transfer" the required permit to the replacment company until he was paid this undeserved $4600 profit. Ken made no effort to rectify the situation just demanded more money! He also texted he would have completed the job in 32 hours which is preposterous. The new company took 6 weeks and 145 man hours to produce a working system. That's how little had been done by Ken before we fired him. We ended up paying him for 75% of the contracted price when only he only did about 25%. In our opinion Ken Doughety was NOT reliable or honest in his dealings with us.

We have a house that has been in our family since the 1940's. It had been rented for the last 20…read moreyears and the renters were very hard on it. When they left and we assessed the damage we found an extreme amount of mold and a few floor joists in the bathroom that caused the floor to bounce The rest of the rooms had been fairly abused too including thing like spray painting the kitchen cabinets with a dull black paint and cutting a 'new' sink into the counter top. There was a bunch of furniture left behind and it was difficult to see what else might need to be done. Since this job was too big for us to do on the weekends we looked for a contractor who could handle to whole job. Most of the contractors were very busy and we only were able to meet with four at the house to get estimates. The first estimate came back very high and lacked detail of what the contractor planned to accomplish. The second contractor wanted to replace our wood cabinets with inexpensive 'new' cabinets and paint over the mold. The third contractor never called us back. The fourth contractor Matt Goodenough was professional and gave me a good bit of information the day I met him. He brought one of his staff with him and they discussed ideas as we walked around the house for nearly two hours. He gave me a detailed estimate within two weeks of the costs of the project including each of the major jobs broken down for clarity. Matt was honest about how long the job might take and about the unknowns of breaking open a floor on an 80 year house. When the floor in the bathroom was opened up it turned out to be much worse than we expected. Matt and his staff worked with the county permits offices to bring the floor and the rest of the house up to code. Since the damage to the bathroom floor was so severe, the bathroom had to be taken down the stud walls. Once it was opened up, they proposed moving the bathroom door so that it would be entered from the mud/laundry room instead of one of two bedrooms which made it larger and more functional. The mud/laundry room was also made more functional with the addition of a folding table and a new farm sink. There were also some electrical and plumbing issues to deal with to make this place a home. Lastly they built a railing for the porch to make it safer, and finished off the house with interior paint. Matt and Amy (his wife who helps on the business side) kept us in the loop on all the changes and notes from the permit office. They were helpful in choosing the finishing touches for the house too including items that need replacing like most of the light fixtures, the kitchen sink faucet and counter top and all of the bathroom furniture. They followed up with their subcontractors, and made sure targets were met. They went out of their way to make sure that all work was up to their standards (replaced a window cracked by a subcontractor, repainted some slightly mismatched paint, saved all former fixtures for us in case we needed them, etc.) They were thoughtful and we appreciated it! Matt and Amy were great to work with on this project and we are very pleased with the results. We would highly recommend them for any contracting needs you may have in the future.
