We just signed our daughter up for Kumon a couple of months ago and I'm already seeing a…read moredifference. She is autistic although high functioning, and struggles greatly in math. They determined that even though she is about to go into fifth grade, her true last level of mastery was kindergarten. As we were sitting down for the initial conference, they were so great about answering all my questions and making sure to spend enough time with me to make me feel like I was not be rushed and that I was truly being listened to. I like their program for several reasons. One is that it's completely personalized for each child and the level they are currently at and the goals they wish to achieve. Also, my daughter has work to do every single day and visits the center twice a week for one on one personalized attention. Because the work starts out at her level and very gradually increases in complexity, she has not felt frustrated but instead is building her confidence slowly but surely. They foster independence, so she heads into the center and puts her homework away, gets her work out, and begins work on her own without any prompting. She is expected to record the times that she begins and ends when she does complete her work so they are taking into consideration not only accuracy but also mastery as far as rote memory is concerned. Basically they have figured out her last comfortable level of mastery and they are working to gradually build on that so that she is sure to have a strong foundation. I know that it will take a while to get her up to grade level, but I am confident that we are taking the proper steps with Kumon to help our daughter succeed.

I can honestly say that they are getting an excellent education in a safe environment. Some of the sports teams are HIGHLY political, but I don't fault the school administration for that... some coaches are just that way. Dr. Myers does a marvelous job communicating with parents and I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to try and please the parents in this community. I'm a former teacher (different district) so I have something to compare BNHS to. Homework seems light to me, but my kids are definitely prepared for college and beyond since they're taking advantage of the AP, On-Ramp, and other supplementary programs that this school offers.
