This is a nice, dimly lit lounge tucked in Andersonville with great drinks and food! We tried their seasonal Peachy Green and RHU-mance drinks, and they were really good. The Peachy Green reminded me of a green tea shot in drink form, perfect for spring and summer. I got my favorite mac and cheese with crispy chicken, and my friend got Brussels for her appetizer, which were delicious. For our entrees, we had the teriyaki burger and shrimp tacos. They were pretty good, just get a side of teriyaki if you love sauce like I do. We ended the night with a cookie skillet and brownie, perfect! Another fantastic cocktail bar! The drinks here are unique, interesting, and nuanced. I'd ordered the Sage Society, and it took slowing down, but I did detect the light whisper of Ancho Reyes. It was also approachable, lightly herbaceous, with a little sweetness and acid. Between us, was this among my favorites? No. However, this is more a matter of personal taste than something technically or otherwise wrong. I prefer cocktails that are bolder and more spirit forward. My advice is to talk to your bartender and find something you will enjoy most. To help not drink on an empty stomach, I ordered the Crispy Shrimp Tacos. As far as bar (gastropub?) food, these were extremely respectable. The shrimp was cooked very well, and the use of greens and onions helped offer a balance and freshness. As a note, the space inside is small and intimate, and I've no complaints about the service. Final verdict: If you're looking for a unique cocktail, in a small and intimate space, the Elixir Lounge fits the bill. Elixir is in a former martini bar location. I appreciate the upgrades. The music is on par with a lounge. They offer a large menu of drinks but only through a QR code which is annoying. The reduction in stars is all because the service is sooooo bad. The servers are very kind and helpful but not attentive at all. They need to stop pretending they can support table service when they don't have the capacity or appropriate staff to serve. I love the ambiance but the service isn't cutting it for a return trip. read more

Same as many others here- we attempted Marty's only to find it impossibly busy (did go back and it was great though). Cozy little place in a great location. Super well lit (ambiance). The bar was quite busy but we sat there as no tables were open. The bartenders were a joy. They were very kind but extremely busy. They multitasked well and were efficient. The drinks were mediocre. Pretty standard and fitting of a less expensive and class place. This place was too classy looking for the drinks- my mojito was pretty weak but ok. My friend did not love the flavor of her martini. It did start getting busy as we left and some nice guys were happy to take our bar seats. In conclusion this place has a great atmosphere but I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

Recently visited for a friend's birthday and the service was perfect! Absolutely perfect! It makes a huge difference when the guys working behind the bar are also doing service. As someone that doesn't drink, most places don't really have the skills to make an interesting non-alcoholic drink so I am normally stuck with a lemonade soda. Last night was a major exception. Not only did Ryan make me a custom mocktail. He made 3 different ones throughout the night. I didn't feel left out and my friends were jealous at how good my drinks were. I saw some of the other comments regarding how busy it gets. I've been here before and it can get quite busy. Busy days tend to be the warmer days, so chill, relax, and have a good time. I came to Elixir back in spring 2018. I had a fantastic time-the bartenders were super friendly & served us our drinks quickly. They even danced with us a couple times while they passed by to give other patrons their drinks. The bathroom is spacious & very clean. How in the hell have I not stopped in here before??? What a lovely spot to just chill in style. Elixir is nestled in between Replay and Marty's, so I am guessing that is how it got missed by me. Never again. Elixir just reeks of elegance. The space is small, but well laid out. Decor is impeccable....nice size tables for dining and cocktails and comfortable seats with backs. The bar area looked comfortable as well. I wasn't able to see an outlet, but it looked like someone sitting at the bar had his phone plugged in to charge the battery. I can't comment on the cocktails as I am a bubbles person, but from what I could see, they looked amazing and no one was complaining. Unlike Marty's, I love the fact that they had a full bottle of prosecco instead of the splits. The bartenders that were working were very nice and accommodating. We were sitting at a table and they brought over drinks for us. Also I must say that the clientele was lovely as well for the most part. We met some great people to chat with while waiting on a friend of ours to show up...really great conversation and a lot of fun. You can also order food from Replay. We didn't get anything, but it looks like the kitchen is connected to both locations, so you can order off the full menu. This was a great way to spend St Pat's Day...drinking in style and no crazy drunken leprechauns dressed in green. I will most definitely be back here for drinks in the future. We popped in here on Valentine's Day when Marty's was way, way, way too crowded. So glad we did, what a gem and a great addition to the neighborhood. Typical crowd of handsome men and pretty people, that's how we roll in A'ville. Vlad, the adorabs bartender took great care of us. We started with one of the custom Valentine's Day drinks, and they were great. "Roses are Red" and "Honey is Sweet" or something like that. Both were wonderful. After that, we went to our more typical Martinis. Me, Vodka martini and he a real martini with Gin. Both expertly prepared and delicious. Had a great time chatting with Vlad, the font of knowledge for all things booze-related. This is a bartender that loves his job, and I learned a few things (my beloved Kraken is not the best rum, not by a long shot!). We had a snack, the Brussels Sprouts, made in the adjacent Replay. While they were a bit underdone, I loved the taste and the mushroom sauce, so I'm a fan. Incredible fun custom cocktail menu, I'll definitely be back. Welcome to Andersonville! read more

Brought a straight couple here for some good cocktails that were made to order and delicious. They had never been before and they will be coming back on their own. Recommendation: Get there about 7. You will get your choice of seating. The joint is not packed and good conversation can happen. You can peruse the menu for a specialty drink, ask the waiter for something that isn't there or ask for whatever you like. They aim to please. I was with someone who did not drink. We just asked the waiter to surprise us with what they could bring for him. Each nonalcoholic drink that they brought was beyond the patron's wildest dreams. That says a lot for the bar staff. Great work. They are friendly and know when and how to engage with their customers. They chat up folks who are alone at the bar. They are respectful and charming. I am a long time patron of their neighbor (Marty's) next door. Honestly, they stole a customer. I now go to Elixir well before Marty's now. I came here for a "Chef's Table" event thanks to The Local Tourist. I really had a great time. The food and drinks were perfectly paired. They have a wonderful, knowledgeable mixologist (try "Milk"; it was my favorite drink). We had amazing dishes ( the short ribs, the mushroom pasta, the bread pudding) and we laughed and drank and talked. The staff is super friendly. They are very welcoming and attentive. They were constantly making sure to clear our table and checked to make sure we had anything that we wanted or needed. We kept letting them take our silverware with each course and they were mindful to bring us new silverware with each new course. I honestly would not have ever noticed this place if not for The Local Tourist. I'm so glad that I was invited and that I was able to go. I am looking forward to going back again soon!! read more

I didn't know this place existed before last night. I had set plans to meet some friends at Marty's next door after dinner on a Friday night. Well, once we got to Marty's that place was packed to the brim and i walked right out. Thank you Jesus for Elixir. We walked right in and were able to be seated immediately with our party of four. SURPRISE TO NO ONE: The drinks are amazing, the service is stellar (even during the busy hours), and the Ru Paul nights are truly magical.

A friend of mine expressed an allergy (peppers/nightshades) to the server who said it was no problem at all. Friend orders the beef empanadas, said empanadas come out, friend takes a bite. The empanadas have a bit of heat and when my friend mentions this to the server it turns out there are peppers in the empanadas (that can't be taken out since they're pre-made) and the sauce as well. Human error is one thing but the server continues to be an unappealing mix of flippant and negligent the rest of the evening. Andersonville may be lacking in the bar scene but don't bother to waste your time and money here when Marty's is next door. read more

Where to cocktail in Andersonville on a Sunday afternoon? My initial instinct was to try the sister establishment next door, Replay Bourbon and Beer. The place was packed, standing room only, and so loud with people, children, and television sound, I was worried I wouldn't be able to hold a conversation. I'd been to Elixir on Halsted in Boystown, and while that place can get to be pretty crowded, today this place in Andersonville had but two other parties in the lounge. The atmosphere is upscale. The music is eclectic. The cocktail menu is interesting and ambitious. I cozied up to the bar with my great friend Steve, and there was a bit of hit and miss with cocktail availability. My first order, the Vodka Lift, on the highball menu ($8) with Aylesbury Duck Vodka, RTC Stimulus, and Ginseng Syrup was not to be had. I asked my bartender, "What's RTC Stimulus?" He didn't know. Then he couldn't find the ingredient, later telling me that they hadn't made it the previous shift. In any case, I was surprised he couldn't tell me what was in the drink. No matter, I guess, he's only been there since December. I opted instead for The Pink Wolf ($11) off of the Chicago Mixologist Elixir Creations menu as created by Wesley Kenney of Trencherman. An "Aperol Spritz for the modern gentleman," this was a hit! A mix of Plymouth Gin, Aperol, grapefruit, lemon, saline, and sparkling water, it was refreshing and not too sweet. I was surprised again that my bartender said he couldn't find the saline dropper for the drink as he was trying to mix up a batch just for my drink. He looked again and found the tincture bottle. Hmm. My friend Steve ordered a Kir Royale which they finished with a candied hibiscus floating in the drink. Steve said it was too sweet, but this is the same Steve who would go to a chicken and waffle shack and order a hamburger, or a Chinese restaurant and order chop suey. The bartender let us sample a candied hibiscus flower separately, and I really liked it. Steve wanted to try a Seasonal Old Fashioned off of the Classic Cocktails menu, but they were out of the ingredients again. They're working on a new seasonal old fashioned, I was told. We finished the afternoon by trying one last drink, the Afternoon Delight off of the Chicago Mixology menu, after Adam Segner of the Art Institute of Chicago. "A Rhum punch to sip and repeat," this was another hit. Mixed with El Dorado 5 Year Rum, Balsam Bespoke Sweet Vermouth, lingonberry sour, ginger beer, strawberry, and mint, I enjoyed this one. Our bartender was nice, but not really on top of his game. It didn't detract from the quality of the drinks, the atmosphere, or the value, however. I'd definitely go back if they could seat me. Evidently there are hosts on the weekends to manage the crowds. It's a great spot. read more

I'll leave this bar to the lovely men in the neighborhood. If you're a female, your service will be disappointing and half-assed. I went in their with my wife and 3 of our female friends to celebrate a promotion and a building a purchase. We were thrilled to be together and celebrating our accomplishments in our neighborhood. We grabbed a table and ordered a bottle of wine and a couple craft cocktails. We waited over 15 minutes for our drinks and were ignored long after we had finished all our drinks. We wanted another round, but we decided to just go up to the bar and get our check and venture elsewhere so we could actually drink and have a good time. Needless to say, I won't be back. I was out with friends for a Sunday afternoon. Planned to go to Marty's but they were full, so decided to stop in here. Now I know why they weren't busy. On a Sunday afternoon in the summer they have one bartender. Given their menu with drinks that take time to prepare, two bartenders should be on duty. The bartender was kind and made our drinks. The drinks: My friend and I both ordered the same drink that was a version of a Moscow Mule. His came in in a metal cup and mine was served in a tall glass. Odd that the same drink was served differently by an establishment that markets itself as a craft cocktail bar. We had our drinks and I decided to get one more. At this time there was someone else behind the bar. He made the drink in a rocks glass. So now the drink that was featured on their menu had been presented three different ways. To top it off, he charged me an extra $1, $12 total. I remembered that the menu said the drink was $11. Went back to my table to confirm and then went back to the bar to inform him. His reply was, "That is what the computer said." I reiterated that the menu stated it was $11. He reached into his pocket and through a dollar on the bar. Horrible customer service and inconsistent product. Not to mention the lights were on so bright like they were doing an operation. Gut this place and make it an extension of Replay. read more

I really enjoyed Elixir Lounge last Saturday night. We stumbled in when the martini bar next door was full, and I'm glad we did! The bar is attached to a larger sports bar next door, with a connecting corridor. The waiter let me know that they share ownership. The decor is a little upscale, with chandeliers, high tables with barstool height chairs and well-dressed staff. My companion and I had a number of tasty drinks. I had two citrus perfect Lemon Drop Martinis and a Mimosa, She had a Stirred Tequila and a Basil Grapefruit Martini. All were good and my Martinis were both strong and delicately flavored. I had the opportunity to attend this Past Wednesday, September 30th a private event at elixir called "Angel's envy Bourbon dinner" Such a great experience considering the fact that it was also my first time at this elixir location. The evening was quiet lovely, the menu for the night very much exciting and tasty. The drinks absolutely to die for, and the experience overall defiantly made that Wednesday night fabulous. The Chef's work absolutely amazing, taking his time to greed everyone, explaining in simple detail what we were just about to taste. I remember everyone in my table expressing in between bits how delish everything was! The drinks... Well, we couldn't get enough. Too good! Really enjoy Elixir! Vlad and Nick have always taken care of us and our guests. Great craft cocktails that are always consistent and always good! All the way from the famous "Martinez" martini, old fashioned, or a fancy cosmopolitan, they know how to do it right! Did I mention drinks? Wait! Their Steak Frites are one of the better ones I have had, cooked perfectly. The Pappardelle Bolognese is better than the one at my favorite Italian joint. The Fettuccini with shrimp, octopus, and spinach in a light white wine garlic sauce was amazing!! Over 6 huge shrimp and just an overall generous portion! Now that they have a greeter meet guests at the front door when they are busy to make sure the next in line gets a seat or a table and not a free for all makes it a much better experience and a casual atmosphere to chill with friends. This was my first time here, although I've been to Replay quite a few times. I didn't even know this cozy little cocktail lounge existed at the back of Replay. The atmosphere was quaint and intimate, and the large open windows created a gentle breeze that created a romantic ambience. Quite lovely! Also, Jay was my bartender and he was amazing. He made me a delicious cucumber mint martini (I loved it and I rarely drink), and even though he was insanely busy working solo, he was extremely affable and attentive to myself and the rest of his guests. I really like this place but my last experience there was very disappointing. They had four customers and 4 bartenders that were just talking with each other. They never checked on how we are doing and we gave up on table service so we walked to the bar to get drinks as well as to get the check. Please do not let my review discourage you from going. It is a nice place. I just suggest management have a talk with their bartenders. It is ok to just hang and have fun as a bartender but you need to do your job too. Update: I updated my ranking because the manager reached out to me to inquire more and make sure he addresses the issue. AMAZING COCKTAIL BAR! My friend and I wandered around just hoping to find a cool looking bar on a Sunday night, and boom...found Elixir and it was great, not too crowded so we could get a seat at the bar, which everyone knows is the best place to sit, and our bartender, Anthony, worked some MAGIC. He did really cool themed cocktails for the release of Batman vs Superman, including a phenomenal Pisco Sour I still think of fondly. It's not out of the world expensive, the food is great, and I can't compliment the service enough. read more

Very nice atmosphere. Cozy bar but didn't feel crowded by other tables and the seats were comfy (had backs on them too) and the drinks were yummy. Only criticism is the choice of mint for mojito, tasted a little "weedy" instead of sweet mint and the mint wasn't muddled which is like mojito 101 but other than that were were impressed. We went in with no expectations (as one should do when visiting a new establishment), and we left having had a wonderful experience! The food was so amazing! We had a lovely gazpacho followed by crispy pork belly. For dinner we had a perfectly cooked salmon, and we had cheesecake (a freaking enormous serving) with a caramel glaze for dessert. The service was great, and Elixir's bar manager must be quite experienced, because the drinks were great. I really enjoyed the cocktails both times I have visited Elixir. I love the variety of ingredients and the care that clearly goes into making each cocktail. I have to agree with another reviewer here that you seem to get much more attentive service if you are male. I think Elixir is spot on for the product they serve, but has a long way to go to be on par with others in the area for service. On the last visit my friend and I were not greeted when we arrived and were not thanked or acknowledged as we left. I felt as if the bartender wanted us to drink faster and give up the bar seats for the handsome male crowd starting to file in. Too bad really since we probably would have stayed for another cocktail if we felt more welcome.
