I Had A Very Disappointing Experience At Rogers Park Social. I Am Currently Dealing With Back Issues And Was Unable To Sit Comfortably In The High-Top Chair At Our Table. I Politely Asked The Waitress Whether I Could Switch One Chair So I Could Sit Comfortably. Rather Than Offering A Simple Solution, She Abruptly Told Me That She Could Not Accommodate The Request. We Then Respectfully Asked The Guests At The Nearby Table Whether They Were Using The Chair, And They Kindly Confirmed That They Were Not. We Moved It To Our Table Without Disrupting Anyone, And The Waitress Did Not Raise Any Concern Afterward. That Made The Initial Refusal Especially Frustrating. This Was A Small, Reasonable Request That Would Have Had No Impact On Other Guests Or The Staff. Instead, I Was Made To Feel Like An Inconvenience. It Was Also A Sunday Evening When The Venue Was Not Crowded At All. After The Initial Interaction, Our Server Never Came Back To Check On Our Table Or Ask Whether We Wanted To Order Additional Drinks. The Bartender Eventually Had To Come Out From Behind The Bar To See If We Needed Anything. For A Group Of Five, That Level Of Attentiveness Was Disappointing. A Venue That Promotes Itself As Welcoming And Accommodating Should Be Prepared To Make Basic Seating Adjustments For Guests With Mobility, Injury, Or Back-Related Concerns And Should Provide Consistent Service Throughout The Visit. This is still a very cool, hidden-away little place, with great cocktails, but there has been one major change for the worse since I was last there a few months ago. I dropped by last night around 11 PM, opened the door to walk in, and was immediately approached by a staff member who told me that the bar was "at capacity", and nobody else was being allowed in at the moment. I then realized that a small group of people standing outside weren't just chatting and having a smoke - they were waiting to get in. I haven't been at a single bar in Chicago in the last few years that was enforcing any policy like that, unless it was some packed downtown nightclub, and this place was far from packed. They couldn't have decided to start turning away customers like that for any reason other than that the staff decided to do it. I pointed out to the bartender (when I finally got in) that the pandemic had been over for years, and she breezily replied, "Oh, it's still going on." As a result, the crowd inside will always be a lot thinner than it used to be, and consequently, the experience will be a lot less fun, aside from the insult of being told one would have to wait to come in, or just leave. I can't see how this new policy will do anything but hurt their business, and I'm not planning on going back. read more

The first time I was here was to celebrate the birthday of two good friends back in 2020. It was an amazing time and The Queen and I had a great time. The Doctor had been under the weather and did not go with us. I kept telling him we needed to go so he could experience it as well, but COVID went into full swing, and we never made it. This year we made it over there and during an absolutely day. I had no idea that they had an outdoor area, which was just adorable! The last time I was there, they had four four bottles of sparkling wines. This visit I saw that there were six and I loved it. This time I got a Gouguenheim Sparkling Malbec Sparkling Rosé from Tupungato, Mendoza. Very interesting choice and I enjoyed it very much. That was my first experience with a Malbec, and I loved it. The Queen got a Moscato because she loves the sweet drinks (me not so much). There are also non-alcoholic beers for folks that are either watching the diets or just want a drink without the alcohol. And of course, those lovely cocktails if you are into those. Our server was also the bartender but was on point taking care of both areas. Definitely was all around pleasant and fun to talk to. And we discovered that this place does cocktail and drinks delivery! So, if you are not feeling like venturing out, order in. I came here for a graduation party recently. It was a bit tricky to find. But they have outdoor seating, a nice bar area, and a few places to sit. It kind of reminds me of Sparrow in Old Town with that old fashioned feel. The bar tender was so nice and they have a great selection of tasty cocktails. I had The Socialite, which was so good! ROPO Social has been my go-to neighborhood haunt for the past few years, but I may no longer be returning after a particularly bizarre experience. I've noticed a few strange personalities behind the bar in the past, but have never interacted with the bartenders from last night before. Upon our entering, both bartenders fell completely silent to stare, which prompted everyone sitting at the bar to turn and stare at us in silence. No hellos or friendly greetings from the employees, just a snappy, "IDs?" then they studied our IDs in uncomfortably long silence. After returning our IDs, the bartender turned and walked away without a word (wtf?!) leaving us to find a menu ourselves and to track down someone to take our order ourselves. When we asked this bartender if they had any playing cards in the bar (a valid question we thought, since they had some board games up for grabs) he literally said, "I don't know. Why?" I don't know buddy, why do you think? He may have been drunk or on something else, as I can't think of any other possible excuse for this behavior. If you are set on coming here, be prepared for an off-putting experience (unless it's every other Wednesday, the trivia guy rocks!!) Disappointed to be writing this bar off, as it has the potential to be a cozy, friendly, and welcoming atmosphere for fostering community, perhaps with better employees at the helm. read more

We wandered in for a late night drink and I was so pleased we did. We then continued to wander in almost every night we were in town. Bartenders, Drew & Dustin, took such great care of anticipating what we would enjoy with just a couple quick questions. We tried quite a few different cocktails and while most were extremely good, there was one I didn't love. They tweaked it knowing what I had liked so far and it turned into a favorite! After one night, we were recognized and treated like regulars. The Social is clean. The other guests were all so friendly too. We had such fun interactions during every visit! This is not a dive bar, but rather a destination for some quality and thoughtful cocktails or beer. Love the neighborhood vibe and everyone in there was super friendly. I actually went out for food and left my coat there. When I returned the lady who was watching it was gone and so was my coat. Mildly off putting evening. Decided to stop in for a drink with roommate. Talked to host, made sure we could sit at bar. Sat down. Not too busy inside but aware that bartenders were making drinks for orders. Waited seated at bar for almost ten minutes. No acknowledgement by bar staff, no order taken. Ok, maybe too busy? Couple comes in sits down next to us, gets greeted immediately, and drink order taken within a minute. Intentional? I certainly hope not. Decided to walk out as our money wasn't worth the service. Going to give another chance as this is our local bar and we both try to give them our business. Perhaps a fluke. Sad though, and hoping it doesn't happen again. read more

I've enjoyed my visits to RPS. When I've been in there, there wasn't loud music. (In fact, I think there was NO music). This is nice because you can actually talk. Also, something I very much appreciate is that not all of the tap beers are IPAs. Sure, there are a handful that I like (see Hailstorm Brewing), but sometimes you want something sessionable and yummy. Last weekend when I was there, they had Surly Bender-- usually if there is Bender, it's their Coffee Bender, which is yummo, sure, but not necessarily what you want at 10 p.m. For a great community hangout, you can't go wrong with RPS. (You might have to dodge an annoying hipster or two, but you can handle that). read more

This was my favorite bar when I was in Chicago. I lived there for 5 years within walking distance of Rogers Park Social (RPS) and became a regular. There are seasonal cocktails that are different every year, along with a list of fan favorites that are available at all times. Very LGBTQ friendly with gender-neutral bathrooms. I've come here on dates, with friends, or by myself with a good book. Every time I had excellent service with amazing drinks. The hardest part of leaving Chicago was leaving RPS. read more
