    Bacon Burger, Waffles Fries

After my workout, I finally came here for dinner. Every time I walk past here it's always busy, but tonight it wasn't too busy. I sat at the bar at the end. The bartender Brendan (also owner) served me. I had 2 Tito Vodka and lemonade (which was tasty) and for dinner, I had Bacon and Burke Burger (no onion) cooked medium and waffle fries. The burger was cooked perfectly and the waffle fries were hot. The bar wasn't busy, many regulars came here. Tonight is Trivia Night in the other room. The ambiance is very cozy with the TV playing College and professional sports. High Tables in front and back of the restaurant. I will definitely come back. For the drinks, food, and services

Once we got service, our server he was great! At receipt of our bill, he gave us a complementary shot for our wait at the beginning. Place was pretty full for Sunday, you can tell they have a regular crowd. Vibe is Irish eclectic. Food was reasonably priced and huge portions! I took half my salad home and helped my husband finish his waffle fries, which were crispy and delicious with in house ranch. Burke's Chopped salad includes grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, tomato, blue cheese and onion with a house vinaigrette. Served with grilled pita points. Chicago Style Italian beef was served with waffle fries, aus jus, sweet peppers and hot giardiniera, a garlic and ground pepper aioli and mayo slaw.

Spinach Artichoke Dip... not even a quarter full.

This was the Spinach Artichoke Dip that is $11. Now I believe it was Brandon but he was nice to reimburse the item. Brandon stated that the dip is pre packaged so if you ordering to go please check your items before leaving.

Officially a neighborhood gem. The fish fry is outstanding. Tender, juicy fish (cod? YUM) light breading, not greasy or heavy - and a very good price. The waffle fries are a favorite here - how do they do them so consistently perfect! Crunchy, tender on the inside, so good!!! Damn, I love them. I had the Buffalo Chicken salad, which I enjoyed. Honestly, though, it could have half the amount of lettuce and still be a fine salad. It was a LOT of lettuce! The chicken was tasty and tangy with delicious Cayenne pepper Buffalo seasoning. Gerry, fantastic staff member, put a smile on both our faces after a trying week with his friendliness, enthusiasm and beautiful smiling face! Thank you, friend! And the owner is always just great - never fails to great us warmly and with shots in hand! We appreciate you!

Pretzel bites with beer cheese and onion rings with Guinness sauce. Both great!

Went here a couple of times during a recent stay in Edgewater and always enjoyed ourselves. Seems a little understaffed right now, but the servers did a great job of keeping up with customers, and we never had to wait long for food. Speaking of, everything we ate was good -- decent chicken sandwich, excellent onion rings with a really good Guinness sauce, hearty chili, nothing ever disappointed us. Main standout was the beer cheese sauce that comes with the pretzel bites -- it's absolutely delicious, some of the best-tasting beer cheese we've had. Worth getting that appetizer just so you can dip other stuff like fries, too. Prices were reasonable for the area, and they've got some decent beers on tap along with the full bar. Great spot, would definitely recommend. Want to check out the brunch menu next time I'm in town.

    Italian beef and waffle fries.

My friend goes here all the time with his friends and they love it. Haven't dined in there yet but did takeout last night. Mom wanted the Salmon BLT. She approved. Nice piece of salmon on a nicely toasted bread. Bacon was good. Had a piece myself. I'm not a fish guy so couldn't give you an opinion on that but again. Mom liked it. I had the Italian beef. It was good. Not the best but probably would get it again. Maybe it was an off day for that batch. I've seen other pictures of beefs on here and they looked better. Portion size for the price could have been more. For appetizers I had the chicken fingers. That for the price was well worth it. Great taste. All items came with waffle fries. Very good. Mom had the spinach artichoke dip with what I think was homemade pita bread. She approved. Overall a great place. It had a great atmosphere and seen what I think were regular customers. Gotta join with my friends next time.

Burke's was the recent host to my dear friend's baby shower and they were fantastic. My friends were searching for a venue where we would have a private space (free of charge!) and order food and drinks to celebrate this momentous moment. Thank goodness they found Burke's! They placed us in a private bar area with our own servers and made arrangements to accommodate our small party. I loved that the bar management was especially accommodating to families and really made the space feel like home. The party "package' included drinks and bar nibbles. I loved their Fall Cider with Whiskey concoction. It felt like I was at a Christmakindl market but not freezing since I was inside a bar. You can barely taste the whiskey so be careful as you may end up sipping more than you can handle. Their bar food was not bad either. I loved their buffalo wings and their artichoke dip served with warm chips was a solid option. Thanks Burke's for hosting such a great event for my friends.

Because it is located in the lobby of the apartment building, it is not something you see from the street. The bar itself is very small, but there are multiple seating options outside of the actual bar. You are permitted to take your drink to the lobby or to the outside patio area. Both are nice and allow for a pleasant drinking experience, but folks that live in the building sit there as well, on laptops or reading. The vibe of the bar is super chill, with this crazy red hue that I love. I am not a big cocktail person per se, but if you are into them like The Queen is, then you are in for a treat. There are also non-alcoholic selections for wines, beers and cocktails for those that require that. In addition they also have bubbles, so that is a win for me. In addition to great cocktails and bubbles, they also do "Summer Movie Nights" on the patio. You can bring a blanket, grab a drink and enjoy. Larry's does not serve food, but you can order something to eat from The Uptown Deli (which has good sandwiches). There is street parking on Sheridan and it is about two blocks from the Lawrence Street El stop (once it opens again). Now that I am aware of its existence, I will be back to chill and have bubbles, and maybe catch a movie.

Alas, my catchphrase being "I eat and I know things" means ordering food is a given. That was a mistake, but not as bad as whoever made the decisions behind the Heartbreaker Burger. Let me start with the good. I started with the M&M shot, a simple yet tasty, and not face-melting combo of mescal and Montenegro. I drink spirits neat, so YMMV, but something I wouldn't mind ordering again. Next, I tried the Vieux Carre: a solidly executed classic with balanced flavors and spirit-forward without going overboard. While the bevvies are not mind-blowing, the prices are low - In the year of our Lord 2026, $12-13 for a cocktail in Chicago is almost unheard of outside of happy hour. The vibe is old-timey and retro. Loads of wood, exposed brick, and wallpaper that your great aunt probably had. There are a few game-heads on the walls, for I guess great uncle likes to hunt. There is also a piece of art on the walls that, feels almost like it can go in a museum, but not quite. Let's say this: gentlemen, I would advise against brining a date here, lest you be tempted to look a little too long. Alas, we've now arrived at the abomination that is the, perhaps aptly named, Heartbreaker burger. To start, it was wrapped in foil and tasted through and through as though it's been sitting under a heater for at least an hour. The lettuce within had time to wilt due to the heat, making it go from a positive addition, past neutral, and into negative. The patty missed the mark: In this case, Smasburger applies to the thinness, and not at all to a roasty, crispy, Maillard-y consistency. Between the thin piece of strongly favored meat, and bun a little too large and dense, all other ingredients lost their presence. Further, If felt the burger was so bready, I removed the top bun and turned it into a fork and knife affair. I'm all for burgers getting wider, rather than only so tall one can't open their jaw so far, but not like this. Hardly worth mentioning are the sides of Tater Tots and Queso. Both weren't heartbreaking, but at the same time, wholly unremarkable. Felt as though I could easily beat these with a quick stop at Aldi. I've no complaints about the service. Since I came right around opening, it was very quiet. Still, I was well-taken care of, and things came out relatively quickly. Final verdict: Sweethearts Bar makes inexpensive, solid classic cocktails in a mostly retro vibe. However, the alleged-smashburger left a bad taste in my mouth, literally and figuratively, spoiling the experience. Would return?: Probably not. There was nothing on the menu that I couldn't easily and cheaply recreate myself. Would recommend?: Also probably not. If you're looking to catch up with a group in a space without a TV, Sweethearts and its cheap drinks aren't a bad deal. For all other cases, I would not recommend.

Considering inflation in 2022 as well as post pandemic pricing, this place and its daily specials reminds me of dive bar pricing from like 2015. You can literally munch of some free popcorn that cooks itself in the corner and change the music on the juke box as well. They also have a decent sized patio for those warmer days/nights! There is outdoor seating under a pergola lined with semi-private planters, while the inside features a bar, high tops, low tops, and large booths. The music was upbeat, giving the space an elevated lounge vibe that pairs really well with the upholstered booths and vintage industrial design. I ordered the Wolf Burger, which is a whopping three-patty burger. That first bite was juicy and pure bliss--a total explosion of great flavors. It was a little messy (like all burgers with an egg), but the extra liquid was perfect for balancing the density of such a meaty burger. The soft bun soaked in a lot of those juices with each bite, intensifying the flavor as I ate more. The fries were thin and on the greasier side--not my personal favorite, but they worked alright as a vehicle for the sauce. Speaking of which, the chili aioli served with the fries was fantastic. We also got the mac and cheese, which hit a great balance between rich and creamy without feeling excessively wet. The boat it came in was a bit small, making it a little messy to scoop out with the serving spoon, but it was soooo good.
