We later took her to another doctor for a second opinion -- that doctor examined her and said her eyes were healthy and did not need surgery at all. When my grandmother pushed back during the original visit, the appointment turned hostile. He raised his voice at us and, in our experience, used slurs. He also told her that if she didn't agree to the surgery he would report her to the DMV, and after she declined, he did. In my opinion, pressuring a hesitant elderly patient toward a major, unnecessary procedure -- and using a DMV report as leverage -- crossed a serious line. I'd strongly urge anyone, especially seniors and their families, to get an independent second opinion before agreeing to any surgery here.

I appreciate the gesture and his willingness to address my concerns. That said, my goal was never to obtain a refund. My concern has always been the billing process and the discrepancy between what I paid upfront and what was later reflected through my insurance. I am sharing my experience so that other patients know to carefully review their EOBs and billing statements and make sure they understand any charges collected before insurance is processed.

His office staff is knowledgeable and I always feel like they are very detailed with their examination and eye exams. Make sure you ask questions if you don't understand something. They do speak Vietnamese and English if you wanted to know. If I ever need care later on in my elderly years, I wouldn't mind continuing my care here. Seems like everyone is pretty happy and they accept quite a few insurances, even CalOptima, Medicare, and private insurances. There are a lot of young student interns that I'm assuming are pre-med so don't mind them if they help with the exams. It's good to let young people shadow and help with the flow of outpatient healthcare. I guess if you are looking for some sort of volunteer or work experience, go check them out and ask if they have any openings.

Since it was an eye contact exam, they also taught me to take out the eye contacts and put it back in. I was having difficulty and it took me nearly an hour to put them in, but the girl at front was so patient with me and encouraging. I was given a trial pair of contacts for a week and a follow up appointment. I will definitely be coming back due to the knowledge and kindness!
