Travelers beware!!! Friendly people, but poor advice. My family was on vacation and our car had some radiator issues. Slapped a terrible clamp on the hose, and added some fluids with a test drive for $260!! Said we could make a 4 hour drive home. Didn't even make Navarro 20 min into drive! Radiator hose blew off with a part of radiator. Engine broke down, stranded with no cell service. Managed to get a tow to Ukiah(hours later). Radiator and Engine damage was found and ended up trading in car for new one. Should have advised a tow to Ukiah for radiator replacement!! Simple as that. read more

Oh man, nothing ruins a vacation more than car troubles; especially car troubles that require you to call a tow truck because your hybrid just decided to stop working. While in the middle of no where, with little to no reception you can only imagine my stress level on finding a tow truck to help my family and I. While my insurance company was making calls into different companies, I decided make the calls myself on the search to find a tow truck. My husband then called into Elk Garage, and spoke to Denise. Denise was friendly and really showed effort in trying to find us a truck. Fast forward to a day later, Victor came to pick up our car to help us tow it to Lexus Freeman in Santa Rosa. After finding my tire to be with no pressure. AAA gave me enough air and followed me to Elks Garage, I was greeted with friendly service and the mechanic I believe his name to be Bob, was excellent in helping me with my issue, unfortunately my tire was beyond repair but I was told that only after they did everything they could to find a solution. Were traveling to Manchester by the sea with my son and our 2 dogs. Took a mountain road and got stuck in a snow blizzard in February around 5pm and we were only 9miles away from the coast. My Prius would not move, called AAA and they called Elk Garage. They stayed in touch with us because they were rescuing another Prius (this one got totaled). At around 9:30pm they started to make their way to us and got there at 1:30am after having to use the chainsaw to clear the road of fallen trees, at least a good dozen of them. A good and honest place. What more can you ask for a mechanic shop? We were on vacation, and our alternator fried on our Pilot. They fixed it right up, and at a very fair price. Considering they are just about the only game in town for quite a span of miles, it could have gone much differently. But, alas, no. They were professional, and very efficient. If I lived closer, I'd make them my normal spot. Kudos to everyone at Elk Garage, and especially to Bob for driving over to the KOA to give our car a diagnoses and eventual tow. Brake, take the corner and accelerate out of the curve at full throttle. So here I am driving the Porsche 911 with the roof down on the far reaches of the Pacific Coast Highway. As the mountains rise to my left and the pacific splashes to my right I feel like I am in a road movie of my own. I put the car into third gear and then fourth. The rpm buzzing up to 7,500 redline with an incredible sound of the motor in the back and the worried look of insects about to meet their maker. Then suddenly, I see a check engine light appear on the dash, and seconds later I lose power to the radio, next the speedometer stops registering speed but the rpm dial is still functional. Something is wrong. I slow down and look for a place to pull over on the Pacific Coast Highway. The good news: I am miles and miles from anywhere. The bad news: the engine ceases and does not re-start. "Oh, I have to be back at our hotel for dinner with my gorgeous wife in four hours," I think to my self. I get out of the car and push it to the side of the highway. Thankfully, there is no traffic. A utility truck approaches. A man named Larry is kind enough to stop and tells me the nearest town is two miles away and has AAA approved Elk Garage. Since I am not getting a signal on my iPhone, Larry, pulls out his mobile phone and dials the AAA driver Eddie whom he knows personally. Within ten minutes Eddie shows up with a flat bed truck and tries to boost my battery. We get it started but only momentarily. Eddie and Larry are suggesting the death of the 911's alternator. We get the car up onto the flat bed truck and haul it two miles to the Elk Garage. The people here are truly magnificent and help me get back to my hotel in time for my dinner date with my beautiful wife. The next day, the car is placed onto another tow truck and shipped to a shop a hundred miles away for alternator replacement. What an amazing bunch of people. Thank you for the advice and quick action. This is the second oldest AAA certified garage in the state of California-an excellent place to have your car towed or repaired. While such events are an everyday occurrence for motorists, the professionals at Elk Garage are kind, considerate and really helpful. They care a lot when it truly matters. read more

We had 2 completely flat tires due to punched side walls on our full-bed truck. We were stuck on HWY 1 just north of Pt Arena. It happened at 15:00. We called AAA and shortly after that Bob, the owner of Elk Garage, called and told us he had 2 tires available and the tow truck will be on the way. Andy from the garage came with the full-bed and towed us to their garage in Elk. Bob stayed behind after his normal quitting time and put on the new tires for us while my husband and I went to have dinner. By 18:00, we were again on the road. Thanks to Andy and Bob at Elk Garage!
