    Menu lunch and dinnet
    Tim N.

This is a quaint little restaurant that has a side restaurant called the "Pizza Depot" sort of attached. Regular menu items are available from the pizza menu that are made in that kitchen. Pizza's and flatbreads in the usual variety. They have a full breakfast menu 7 to 11AM. The staff is friendly, the decor is plain, but very clean. This is a straight up family restaurant with country food, comfort food and that includes pizza. We had a party of six and it was about 11:30 on Saturday. Decent number of tables in service, but not packed. It was clear that the staff all worked as a team trying to keep service at high levels and they did a good job. We felt that the staff was attentive to our needs. The food - we had a wide variety. One had the steak, sides of beans and collards and roll. This was standard fare. The collards were good, not the sugared kind (some places put brown sugar to counter bitterness), which is good. The veggie plate was well received with collards, stewed apples, fried okra and cornbread (a little bit sweet). One had a flatbread with bacon, cheese and marinara, which was a bit like glorified breadsticks served with a marinara dipping sauce, but it was well received. For my meal, I chose the Fish and Chips with a side salad bar, one trip, upgrade for $2.99 upcharge to substitute for one of my two sides. Which I am glad that I did. The salad bar was fresh, well maintained and held a wide variety. Iceberg lettuce blend and spinach choices. Items for choice included beets, black olives, banana peppers, jalapenos, shredded carrot, red and yellow onion, green pepper, cottage cheese, fruit (citrus mix), sunflower seeds, cherry tomatoes, and shredded cheese and actual blue cheese crumbles. Also the standard wide variety of dressings. Honestly, had I known how good this salad bar was, I would have just eaten this. And probably awarded five stars. But, alas, I had ordered the fish and chips and instead of using the flakier cod, it was with haddock. Typically this is a meatier, more flavorful and sweeter choice, but not if you overcook it. The fish presents nicely, but it was so tough it was difficult to cut even with the butter knife, and because of that, all the advantages of this ingredient are lost. I tried to plus it up with fresh lemon squeeze and salt. Didn't work. The side sauce turned out to be mayonnaise by mistake, instead of tartar sauce, but I didn't mention that because it was a lost cause. The fries were medium cut, and just an okay diner style fry, nothing special. I will say, portions are big. So: Five stars to the staff. Very good service. Three stars for food - bumped up in spite of the fish dish by the portion sizes and seeing the other dishes my party ordered and the incredibly good salad bar. Ambience - four stars, about what is expected, clean, not too loud, not cramped.

    Best Pizza by far!!!

Food was great!!! I'm constantly traveling for work and my favorite food group is Pizza!!! so I have tried more than my fair share of mom and pop and High end slices of heavenly pizza. The Hawaiian is by far the best I've had. The Ham, Bacon and Pineapple blended perfectly with the crust and mozzarella cheese, every bite was a new experience. I definitely recommend this place, its ambiance and service were impeccable!!!

This is what's left, because the rest was devoured. The pizza is AMAZING! If you're ever in Elk Park, you have to try this place. The crew here were all so friendly and personable. It adds to the wonderful atmosphere. I will be coming back!!!!

Food was bad, service was slow, and there is no ambiance. Local men seemed to like the place.

They now have a full bar which they didn't have when I wrote my last review. What a nice touch. The owner was nice enough to make my sisters a pitcher of sangria to enjoy. He mixed up some delicious expresso martinis for my friend and I. We ordered the firecracker shrimp and the Brussel sprouts. Both were fantastic!! I ordered the Sirloin with a caesar salad and potatoes. My friend ordered the overmountain chicken and she said it was fantastic. I honestly can't remember what my sisters ordered b/c we just chatted and laughed the whole dinner. I loved my steak and it was cooked perfectly. The caesar was also really good and I'm a caesar snob since my husband makes his own dressing...this matched up to his perfectly...so delicious!! Our server was extremely nice, prompt and really appeared happy to work here. The owner was as always the nicest and attentive person on the floor and he is just so kind. I love that everyone who works here really are top notch. From the second you walk in the door you feel like you've arrived at their family home for a wonderful meal. We all left very full and so happy. I can't wait to return.

The steaks were overcooked, the chicken was dry and the Brussels were dry. We even waited 25 minutes for our desserts to come. Clearly something has happened over the last few years as it is not like it used to be. We are not big drinkers but to let your liquor license lapse seems like very poor management. We gave it a second chance since our last bad experience and this was the last time. I really hate it because we need good places in this area but for the prices they charge this is nowhere near worth it.

Elegant inside and out, friendly service and top notch food. We sat at the bar and our bartender took care of us all evening. Had one of the best old fashioned's in the area. He knows his stuff! The food was fine dining at its best. A garlic buttered escargot with puff pastry just melts in your mouth. Lobster bisque full of flavor and full of, well, lobster, and a ton of it. I have to say, the extra touch to the tasty French onion soup was a talking point all evening...it came with dedicated scissors so you could cut the cheese. What an amazing touch. And they sure did help lol. The center cut medium rare filet mignon paired with some frites was definitely the showstopper this evening. Thick, tender and juicy...one of the best steaks on all levels. Whenever we're in town and want an elegant evening out, this is the spot!

It's a…read morebeautiful restaurant, and I had been looking forward to dining there for quite some time. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive. The atmosphere, however, felt a little mixed. The restaurant seemed to have two distinct personalities. The newer side, where the bar is located, felt polished and cohesive, while the older dining room--where we were seated because it had more availability--felt like it hadn't quite received the same attention. The lighting on that side of the restaurant was particularly harsh, which made the dining room feel less intimate than it could have been. Since it's also the larger and busier dining space, I think small touches like candles on the tables or softer lighting would go a long way toward creating a warmer, more personal atmosphere. I also noticed an interesting contrast between the beautiful leather-bound menus and some of the furniture and wall décor, which felt more reminiscent of a hotel dining room than the upscale mountain restaurant the food suggested. Thankfully, the meal more than made up for those observations. I ordered the wild mushroom pasta with lobster, and it was the standout dish of the evening. The pasta was rich without feeling heavy, the mushrooms added wonderful depth, and the lobster was cooked beautifully. It's a dish I'd gladly order again. My boyfriend ordered a steak, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We also started with the escargot and the crab cakes. The escargot, while not quite on the level of some traditional French restaurants I've visited, was still very well prepared and enjoyable. The crab cakes were outstanding--full of crab, nicely seasoned, and easily one of the best appetizers of the meal. Our only complaint was that there was only one crab cake on the plate; we both found ourselves wishing there had been another. Overall, Stonewalls Restaurant delivered an excellent meal with genuinely welcoming service. While I'd love to see the older dining room updated to better match the quality of the cuisine, the food alone makes it well worth a visit if you're in Banner Elk.

The waiter frequently mumbled though, and on multiple occasions I had to ask him to repeat himself as I had no idea what he said. Most of the seating is rustic benches, which fits the image but isn't exactly a comfortable arrangement. I also found myself bothered by the flickering light bulb in the track lighting above my seat. Minor issues, but still part of the experience. My order consisted of the pulled pork tray, macaroni & cheese and baked beans. I assumed there's would be some sort of bread included, perhaps hushpuppies, Texas toast or even cornbread...but that's not the case. The pork was pretty moist but didn't have much smoke flavor. The "Western" style sauce is far too sweet for my package so I asked for their Piedmont option, expecting a Lexington-style concoction. What I got was more reminiscent of ketchup mixed with vinegar, lots of sugar and some coarse ground black pepper. Sending a theme here? Avoid the typical sauce options unless you really like sugar. The beans were also oversaturated with sweetness. But the mac & cheese was nice, as they'd included some little chunks of cooked peppers into the mix for a bit of extra flavor. Is the food okay here? Sure, in terms of it being edible. And I'm sure there may be potential patrons who want their barbecue sauce syrupy sweet and who don't have their expectations based on a wealth of solid barbecue experiences. 2.75 stars in my book.
