Our first visit to Americano Steakhouse over a year ago was a positive one, and we looked forward to dining there again. Last night we ate there with the same couple who dined with us the first time...and we all were quite disappointed, unfortunately. My husband and I shared the NY strip steak. There was a surprising amount of fat for this cut of meat, and the steak also had none of that delicious char you expect. It was a bit underdone for the medium we'd requested, but not too far off. Our friends fared worse. The husband ordered a rib eye and deemed it "just ok." The wife ordered a filet cooked medium and it came out completely rare. She tried eating around the edges but left most of her steak untouched (I would have sent mine back to the kitchen if I were her, but my friend is wary of sending meat back; she said she was afraid it would then be overcooked). Her broccolini side dish was so undercooked that it was basically raw, so she didn't eat that either. The french fries and baked potato were fine, and our server was capable and pleasant. However, given the overall experience, we won't be back. That type of meal is handled much better by Stonewall's in Banner Elk. read more

Sad..... I have eaten here many times and am happy that our little town has a nice restaurant..... tonight was different. We usually go through the week and have never encountered a busy night. The older lady hostess tonight was exceptionally rude. Meaner than anyone I have ever encountered working in a restaurant. It was very busy. The restaurant was very loud tonight and you couldn't even talk to the person beside you. Out of baked potatoes, bread and the drink refills were extremely slow. We had taken some guests and were embarrassed. The kids steak is consistently better than the adult steaks. Calamari was covered in a sweet sauce. The menu says only salt and pepper on the calamari. Positives: There is a great waitress there that we have had every time but tonight. She usually does a fantastic job. The chef is nice and comes out to greet guests, but I never have the heart to tell him that his steaks aren't good. We will be back...... all of this can be dealt with except the horrible hostess. We visited Americano in late afternoon/early evening. It was not crowded, but picked up a bit by the time we left. Our server Kylee was wonderful. Just the right amount of attention. I had salad, steak, and fries, then tiramisu. All were delicious. It was elegant, but seemed a bit outdated. BEYOND impressed with our experience at Americano! Our server, Morgan, was so attentive and incredibly friendly. My dad and I shared the Onion Petals and Firecracker Shrimp for appetizers and both were delicious! The Onion Petals were not greasy at all and the sauce on the shrimp had the perfect amount of spice. I had the Hawaiian Ribeye, it was cooked perfectly medium-rare and the blue cheese butter really put it over the top! The Parmesan Truffle Fries were INSANELY good, I mean just look at the picture! My dad had the Prime Rib special and thoroughly enjoyed it. The creamy horseradish sauce was the perfect complement to the meat. For dessert we shared the Colossal Carrot Cake and it was a great end to our meal! The cream cheese frosting was delicious and the cake itself was super moist. We visit family in Roan Mountain a few times per year and had been meaning to try Americano ever since it opened. My only disappointment is that I wish I would have tried it sooner! Came here with my brother on a Friday night. Drove an hour and was looking forward to trying their Hawaiian Ribeye. Had never been here before. Service was good...but overall the food was just average. Ordered the 14 oz Hawaiian Ribeye requested it cooked medium. As you tell by the picture it wasn't medium...no pink at all and Ribeye was super thin. My brother cooks a lot of steaks and he was really surprised that a restaurant that claims best steak in TriCities and calling themselves a Steakhouse 1. Didn't cook it correctly 2. That it was such thin ribeye. The Calamari was good, mashed potatoes very avg, then there's the CAJUN SHRIMP & ANDOUILLE SAUSAGE STUFFED MUSHROOMS....sounds good right! My brother ate one and said he didn't want any more. These things was about the size of a quarter and I could barely tell if it had the sausage and shrimp in them. For $13-14...I recommend you skip this appetizer. Rolls were good and he said he liked the salmon. Overall I was a bit disappointed. If you're just in Roan Mtn and can't decide where to go, you might try it but don't go in with high expectations. I'd have to give it an overall average rating. read more

The waitress was pleasant and attentive. We started with the calamari appetizer which we really enjoyed. The prime ribeye I ordered med rare was actually quite rare. Had this been the only issue, I could have still enjoyed it. Unfortunately, it was extremely fatty. I don't think I've ever sent back a steak before, as I'm really not a picky eater. However, after a few bites I just couldn't do it. I told the waitress who offered another ribeye or a different cut. I opted for the NY strip which was much better although still more rare than a normal med rare piece of meat I order. The caesar salad and garlic mashed potatoes were good as sides. I ended up eating after my wife was nearly finished. She order a filet with shrimp and sides of crusted brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. She loved her meal, which was great. The atmosphere seemed to me more of a family restaurant (several families with kids there) vs. a classy steakhouse which I was kind of hoping for at these prices (don't think I'd categorize as $30 and under though unless you have chicken or fish and no appetizers). Overall it was still nice to get out for a drive and try a new place. We always like supporting smaller towns/businesses, and we liked the fact this place is veteran owned (I'm also a vet). Another amazing dinner at Americano! This visit was for my sister's birthday during our girls trip to the cabin. I made reservations ahead of time. They now have a full bar which they didn't have when I wrote my last review. What a nice touch. The owner was nice enough to make my sisters a pitcher of sangria to enjoy. He mixed up some delicious expresso martinis for my friend and I. We ordered the firecracker shrimp and the Brussel sprouts. Both were fantastic!! I ordered the Sirloin with a caesar salad and potatoes. My friend ordered the overmountain chicken and she said it was fantastic. I honestly can't remember what my sisters ordered b/c we just chatted and laughed the whole dinner. I loved my steak and it was cooked perfectly. The caesar was also really good and I'm a caesar snob since my husband makes his own dressing...this matched up to his perfectly...so delicious!! Our server was extremely nice, prompt and really appeared happy to work here. The owner was as always the nicest and attentive person on the floor and he is just so kind. I love that everyone who works here really are top notch. From the second you walk in the door you feel like you've arrived at their family home for a wonderful meal. My husband ordered the Jim's filet, which is something special you can find anywhere else and it was cooked to perfection and he said it was delicious. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip with chips and Greek salad and it was fresh and delicious. The owner stopped by our table to bring our salad and was very friendly. It was our 20th Anniversary and everyone congratulated us and made us feel welcome. We recommend this restaurant and are looking forward to going back for their famous Prime Rib steak. read more

For what was supposed to be prime beef, both of our cuts were really tough. My steak (prime ribeye) had a good taste, but was really tough. The house salad was sparse and spiney. The baked potato was perfect. Her filet was tough, and without taste. She said her filet was one of those pieces of beef that feels as if it gets bigger as you chew. She said the only palatable bite was a tiny portion at the very center. Both were cooked to a perfect medium. The entire experience was exasperated by a young lady with a can of aerosol glass cleaner. She sprayed the glass tops on some of the tables vigorously until a cloud of glass cleaner permeated the air around. The entire meal, you could smell (and taste)the essence of glass cleaner. The total lack of ambiance was obvious when we walked in. Our waitress, can't remember her name, asked us how our meal was. I quietly told her both steaks were very tough. She did offer to comp our dessert, which we passed on. Sometimes you just have to call it quits and walk away. Service was excellent. Our waitress was the shining spot of the entire evening. Have been excited to try Americano's. Have said, this region needs a good steakhouse, and it still does. Holding out hope for Jackson's Prime in Jonesborough, TN. I know it's owned by "the same family". But I still have hope. We paid for our meals without making an issue, and tipped well also. First time there to celebrate our youngest son's 19th birthday. He said he wanted a great steak and he chose Americano after reading alot of reviews. We had a group of 6 and arrived early. They went ahead and seated us and Victor was our server. He was super friendly and helpful. We had mozzarella planks, calamari and potato skins for starters. Everyone liked the mozz and calamari but the potato skins had an odd flavor. We all had steaks...cowboy ribeye, strip, sirloin (with shrimp and with crab cake). All were cooked perfectly (med well to med rare) and the flavor was delicious. Sides were baked potato, salad, broccoli, spinach....also, all very good. Everyone agreed that they preferred the creamed spinach they've had at other restaurants but this is a sautéed version and it was good but not as good. Cowboy ribeye was delicious but did have more fat than preferred. Portions were large and a couple took home leftovers. Dress as very casual and comfortable and the wine and alcohol lists are extensive. Atmosphere is nice and one would feel good in a suit or in jeans. But, it is a loud room so don't expect quiet conversation. Outside seating looked pleasant. We had birthday cake waiting at home but will definitely return for dinner and dessert. The new addition of the impressive wine list and delicious craft cocktails was the icing on an already great cake. On Saturday night, May 20, the wonderful live music provided by Jace Smith was exceptional. Just the right sound level, and his lovely voice serenaded us with Gordon Lightfoot, Jim Croce, Elton John and many more. Of course while all of the above is nice, without fantastic food and service it would be for naught. Our server was prompt and efficient even though she was very busy. She was knowledgeable and gave great advice and a friendly smile! I had the special which was slow roasted beef short ribs with red wine reduction over hand rolled gnocchi, beautifully presented! I am including a picture. My husband had the NY Strip and loaded baked potato, which he pronounced divine. The new wine list with wine by the glass and by the bottle was very impressive with bottles ranging from 35.00-250.00. The Conundrum red blend paired perfectly with the Gnocchi and Steak. I had been wanting to try this place since I moved here last year and last night was the night. We made a reservation and when we arrived we were seated immediately. I was surprised at how loud it was in there. It's one big room with hard surfaces so the noise level was crazy. Add the live music and it's so hard to hear conversation is not easy. So the food...my husband got ribeye Marsala. The sauce was not good. Steak was cooked perfectly but the sauce was a greasy mess. I had mountain chicken and it was great. First, let me say it's good to see new options for dining in the Roan Mountain area. But my fellow diners and I just weren't wowed by the food here. Oh, the bread was good, and the steak was cooked to order properly. But none of the dishes were especially flavorful. My steak, for instance, seemed to lack any form of seasoning. And the size of the cut didn't seem to match the price, if you ask me. For the same $ I could get a larger, more delicious steak if I was willing to drive a bit. It didn't help that our server was especially forgetful. A member of our party asked for Worcestershire sauce not once but twice. I went without a water refill for quite a while, and the waitress noticed it twice but forgot to bring more until I called her attention to it once again. Went to Americano Steakhouse for my wife's birthday not long ago. It was a Saturday night and the place was so loud we couldn't carry on a conversation with our other guests. I ordered the chicken Marsala with mashed potatoes. Soon after the waitress came back to the table to inform some of our guests that they were out of an item they had ordered. While she was there I asked if she could change my order to a baked potato, and I was told that wasn't possible. SHE HAD JUST RETURNED AFTER TAKING OUR ORDERS! First impression of the exterior, building is right off of the main highway and parking is on gravel with limited space. There's no line designation on where to park. Reservations are recommended, but we arrived early (4:45pm) and were seated right away. Interior is clean, but a bit tight between tables. There's also comfortable booth seatings along the walls. Thursdays special is Prime rib, for a limited time (until sold out). Steaks were pricey for being "Choice" grade. I opt for the special and received it medium with 2 petite sides. Also, ordered an appetizer, Firecracker shrimp, and another entree, chicken alfredo. Both were tasty and flavorful with big portions. Out of the beer I ordered, strike two. Went for the Jim's Filet w/ creamed spinach. Steak was undercooked for a medium rare and looked like it had been under a heat lamp a while. The spinach was not creamed - it was leafy, wilted and with enough garlic to wipe out every vampire in seven counties. Wow, we just had a really delicious meal at Americano Steak House. From the yummy salads all the way to the decadent dessert, everything was fantastic... including the wonderful service! We had the Caesar Salad and Greek Salad to begin our meal, both fresh and delish. For dinner we had the Ribeye and the Filet, and both were cooked and seasoned to perfection. For dessert, chocolate lava cake with ice cream. We will definitely be back. One thing to be aware of is that due to it being a dry county, no alcohol is currently being served. However, beer is available and you're welcome to bring a bottle of wine to enjoy with your meal. Definitely check this place out!!! read more
