While staying in a campground just outside of Boone we decided to start our day in the Banner Elk area. After looking at our choices of restaurants for breakfast we chose Bella's, our wait was as long as it took to wipe down a table across from the side entrance. The hostess was very outgoing and struck up a conversation while leading us to our table, our server continued the hospitality as she took our drink order and made a few recommendations. The restaurant was busy being it was nearly filled but it appeared like us no one waited on anything the service here was outstanding. We both order different versions of the egg plate one with two eggs over medium, link sausage, creamy grits and an over-size biscuit, the other one egg scrambled, fresh made home fries, country ham and a biscuit. The food was outstanding and delivered to our table hot from the kitchen just waiting for a fresh pat of real butter for the grits and biscuits. This was my second time visiting Bella's Breakfast & Lunch. We were able to seat our selves, and there was no wait. Autumn was our server. She was nice. The other server called out that morning, so Autumn was responsible for everyone there. It looked like the cook was also the food runner. Service was very slow as a result, which we did not blame on Autumn. She was working non-stop. I wonder if management could have helped them out. The food was decent. I would try it again. read more

Let's touch on some of the positives first: (1) We were seated, assisted and served quickly. (2) For such a small facility there's quite a bit of seating. (3) The omelet I received was gratuitously sized and still steaming as I cut into it. (4) My dining companions were especially complimentary about the size and flavor of the sausage patties. (5) While there's not a ton of parking immediately outside, there's a very convenient parking lot within a very short walking distance of the restaurant. And now some of the less pleasing observations from our group. (6) The building exterior seemed a bit messy and unkept. (7) The omelet I ordered was the smoked salmon omelet, and it needs something. Capers, onions, hollandaise -- it needs some additional life and flavor put into it. Plenty to eat on the plate, but just a bit dull when it comes to truly enjoying the food. (8) Someone in our group ordered bacon, and they found it to be too thick for their liking. Personal preference, yes, but if you don't care for thick cut bacon perhaps you should order a different breakfast meat here. (9) Pancakes arrived to the table cold, completely incapable of melting butter. And who wants cold pancakes? So we found the visit to be hit-or-miss, and a fall from grace compared to my last visit here a few years ago. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I don't think we will be in any rush to return, which is especially a shame given how pleasant the staff members were. read more

French toast was edible. Breakfast burrito was egg with 2 crumbles of sausage. They forgot the guacamole and asked if it was still wanted to which my boyfriend replied "well yeah I'm paying for it!" Took 30 minutes to just waters, another 15 minutes for coffee... all while another table was sat and had their entrees before we could even order. Service was poor, food was mediocre at best. We came here during our holiday weekend in Banner Elk. The staff was super friendly and the food was great. Super quick turn around time and accurate as you know how picky everyone is about their breakfast. I ordered the quiche which was to my surprise very fresh and warm. the cranberries were a nice refreshing to my usual morning breakfast. My wife had the biscuits and gravy which were her new favorite as the cheesy grits as her side made her morning. Over the weekend this little establishment always had a line out the door so be patient as they are short handed but this is definitely worth the wait. read more

There is no way this is Bella's, the sign states Bella's moved to the Bayou, but the menu we received was not Bella's menu, and the food was not good, and let's not get started on the service. I am sorry if Bella's is associated with the Bayou, because we didn't even eat our food. The food was like it's was from a buffet. And don't you dare ask for anything, as stated by the server, there not allowed to ask for things from the kitchen trust me do not waste your money. We decided to try out this place as they serve breakfast past the usual 11am cutoff. We did have to wait a bit as it was a pretty busy Sunday. Not much room inside so plan to hang on the front porch. I told the waitress we were parked out front and she came to our car when the table was ready. Menu has some good staples: pancakes, French toast, several omelettes, eggs, sausage, biscuits n gravy, burgers and several other hand-helds. We opted for an omelette and a Rueben and being nearly mid day decided to split the French toast. Everything was solid. The omelette was a hearty portion for sure. There is a sign outside the door that at first turned me off. It tells you that you do not have to put your name on a list; you need to stand in a single file line and wait for a staff member to be called in and be seated. There were t o tables waiting to be seated before us and we only had to wait around 5 minutes. Not bad at all. As he was walking us in he was asking us if we wanted coffee (more points) which we both did. It took me a few minutes to figure out that the blue plastic cup on the table housed the creamers. I love this place! I am in town for a wedding and wanted to find a brunch spot neat places I can walk around before I get ready for the wedding. This apot is pretty popular as there was a bit of a wait. You do not put your name down, but you just wait in line until there is room for your group. While the wait was a bit long, it was totaply worth it for the meal! I got the Steak and Eggs and my fiancé and my friend both got the Hugry Rooster. There was so much food! And everything tasted great. My steak was cooked medium rare as I requested and had a good amount of tendons which I prefer (may not be everyone's cup of tea but it is mine). And the caramel cappuccino was delicious! If you have a swert tooth I hoghly recommend. I was jealous that my fiancé ans friend had waffles that come woth their already filled plate but thankfully they let me try their waffles and I also liked it a lot! Very fluffy, not overly crunchy. This is probably not going to be a 5 star experience for you if you order anything other than eggs on a biscuit. Not that it will be bad... I suspect your breakfast will be fine. While there an employee dropped a basket with butter, jellies and sugar packets all over the floor. She picked them up and put them back on the table. I was visiting Beech Mountain with my siblings, there were 10 of us. We went for breakfast on a Monday morning, we were there at 9a. The restaurant is very cute, clean and the food was good.....BUT... 1st....We were greeted by a very grumpy young lady. I asked for a table for 10 she said they would have to split us...I understand that when it's busy and you don't want to wait for a table but there were 2 tables that seat 8 available, I asked if we could just put two chairs at the ends and she said that would block the flow....I totally understand that so we split our group. 6 of us sat at a table for 8 and 4 of us sat at a table for 4, all fine except for the fact that when you sat at the table for 4 you were, and I am not kidding, blocking 1/2 the front door to come into the restaurant, talk about messing up the flow. 2nd....we tried to order our food but they were out of...biscuits and potatoes, keep in mind that this is a breakfast restaurant and it's 9am. We orders our food...my sister order a fried bologna sandwich and my husband order a egg and cheese sandwich. When the order came out Ms Grumpy put the plate in front of my sister and said "out of bologna" and plopped a plate in front of her with some random sandwich on it...,didn't come back out and ask if she wanted something else, they just fixed her a random sandwich. My husbands sandwich had a 1/4 of a slice of cheese on it and 1/2 the amount of eggs on it them my sister, who didn't even want a egg sandwich. He asked if he could get some mayo, she said "yes", what he should of asked was could you bring me some mayo, cuz he is still waiting on his mayo. The only reason they are getting 4 starts not 5 is because I couldn't get the steak and eggs order I wanted because the waitress said the eggs and side will come out before the eggs because the steak takes longer to make and when I asked can you wait to make the eggs till the steak is ready? We stopped on our way out of town on Labor Day Monday. We expected it to be busy and it was. We were sat right away but there were only 2 waitresses and people were coming in all at one time. It took about 30 minutes after we ordered to get our food (understandable). However, the food was terrible. The waffle was horrid, it was made crispy (which I liked) but all I tasted was batter. When I spit it on to the napkin, that was all I saw, batter. My husbands eggs & sausage were not cooked and the grits were terrible. We were not going to send anything back because at this point there was now a 30 minute wait to be seated and they were slammed. Service was ok due to the crowd, they were doing the best they could. We had to wait a little longer for the biscuits as they were cooked to order. The only con I have is their selection of hot teas: earl grey, chamomile and another herb tea--nothing for a tea connoisseur like me! I ended up drinking only water. We looked on Yelp and arrived more than 20 Minutes before closing time. The seated staffer did not rise to greet us or make any apologies, just told us from their spot at a table that they were closing soon and we could not be seated. Also said we could not order takeaway. As one of the few places for tourists to eat in town, my husband and I were quite upset by the lack of adherence to their own posted hours of operation. Definitely no small town charm here, we will NOT be back again. I suggest going to Banner Elk Cafe Instead, they are much more pleasant. read more
