I decided to treat myself for a spa day and bought a Groupon to Ella Blue Beauty. I'm so glad I did! I got the Swedish massage, hot-stone soak, essential-oil treatment, anti-aging collagen eye treatment, hot oil for the hands and feet, green-tea mask. Upon checking in, my friends and I were taken to the bamboo lounge. The bamboo lounge is a private room where I got all the above treatments except for the massage done. This part I got to do with my friends so it was nice to be able to be with them for the good majority of spa day. The bamboo lounge is relaxing with dim lights and ambient music. Don't expect for any stalks of bamboo in the bamboo lounge. The only thing bamboo about this lounge is the bamboo wallpaper on the ceiling. The treatments I received: Eye treatment: This was the first to be done and is the last to be removed before I received my massage. It was refreshing and cool and went on the bottom of my eyes to de-puff my bags. It doesn't cover the entire eyes so I could still see for the rest of my treatments. Hot oil for the hands and feet: My hands and feet were smothered in oil and then wrapped in a plastic wrap to go into heating pads. My hands and feet felt so smooth and baby soft afterwards! This helped relieve my cracked hands from the windy weather. Hot-stone soak: This soak is for the feet. It's bowl of stones filled with hot water to soak the feet in. Watch out for the sharp rocks. One of my stones had jagged edges so I had to be careful not to move my feet. Green tea mask: I thought this was a facial but it is actually a mask for the legs. Swedish massage: The massage was the best part! My masseuse did moves for my knots that were very different from all my other massages. I was sore the next day so that definitely means it was a good massage! Last minutes changes for a facial to a massage can't be done. This is because of how many masseuse or estheticians they have on hand for that time slot. They also don't do couple massages in the same room. Couples can do treatments together but will have to split when it's time for the massage or facial. read more

I will never go here again! I came here over summer to get a spray tan for my best friend's wedding, which I was Maid of Honor in. The service was terrible, no one was friendly and I waited forever to be helped. I purchased a spray tan and one individual tanning session. I have had spray tans before, usually at California Sun Center, and they always had you spray, and then do a tanning bed to help set the tan and bring out the color. However here, they insisted I do the tanning bed first and the spray tan next which made no sense to me. The owner asked if I had ever spray tanned before, which I had, several times, so she proceeded to show me the different poses and left a towel for me to "wipe of the excess spray," which she said should be done firmly. Immediately I grew concerned. I've never gotten spray tan and been told to firmly wipe off what was left. Normally, you pat yourself dry and move on. Anyway, I got my tan on and left. About 2-3 hours later I washed my hands and noticed the water in the sink was turning brown.....it was the tanner washing off of my hands! I immediately called the salon and they told me that you're not supposed to get wet for 24 hours after getting the spray tan. What?! I've never heard of such a thing. No one can or should go 24 hours without washing their hands. They told me to come in and they would try to fix it. I went back to the salon and the owner tried to scrub my hands with a hard bristled brush (which hurt) to even it out and then rubbed some self tanner on my hands. (by the way, this did absolutely NOTHING to fix the problem) I told her that I was upset that no one told me about not getting wet, not even washing my hands for 24 hours. Her response was that I told her I had done spray tans before so she assumed I knew. Great customer service. So it's my fault that you use bootleg spray that needs 24 hours to dry and set? I would expect any employee, especially the owner, to at least apologize for the miscommunication. I got the spray tan somewhere around 11AM, the next morning I took a shower and the tanner was still washing off! I looked ridiculous. My entire body was streaking and ORANGE. I ended up going to California Sun Center 2 days later to get another spray tan to try to even it out. Thankfully, this did help. If you looked closely you could still see streaks and my palms were still spotty, but it was definitely an improvement. This was the absolute worst customer service I have ever received. The owner was unapologetic and blamed me for the fact that she didn't explain the lengthy requirements of the spray tan they offer. I considered going back to ask for a refund, or even cancelling the transaction with my bank, but at the end of the day I just wanted nothing more to do with this business. *Check out the photos I added to the page and you will see exactly what I'm talking about.* read more

My fiancé and I were looking for our new favorite spa close to home . We are new to the Elk Grove area and are getting married soon so this was going to be our first of probably many facials in the next few months . We had originally booked facials for the both us of at the beginning of the month of May that we were very excited (litterally talked about how excited we were for a little relaxation every day leading up to our appointment) and the initial person we spoke to was very nice and informative . Unfortunately they ended up calling us the night before to cancel our appointments due to our aesthetitician no longer being available . Which was very unfortunate but things happen and we ultimate were able to reschedule even with our very busy schedules. Fast forward to over 24hrs before our appointment. I unfortunately got sick and we had to cancel our appointment in hopes to reschedule again. I called and left a voicemail and never heard back (they were closed due to the holiday) I know that there is a cancellation fee for appointments canceled with less than 24hrs notice which is completely understandable and to which I would have been okay with had i not called over 24hrs in advanced but when I spoke to who I am assuming is the owner she was pretty rude on the phone and I could tell she was frustrated when I told her I was calling to confirm that she received my cancelation voicemail . She started to talk about a cancelation fee to which I said " yes but I called over 24hrs in advance " to which she quickly said "okay fine I'll take it off , have a good day " and hung up the phone . It was a very unprofessional way to handle the situation, and as excited as we were to support a small business, our most recent interaction with this spa left a bad taste . While I'm sure they are good at their jobs , basic customer service goes a really long way . With that said , We will be taking our business else where . read more

I found this one stop beauty shop on google. I got my eyelashes done here for the 1st time. They turned out wonderful. I believe it was even the owner that did my eyelashes. So far so good, and only a few singles have gotten loose and fell out but nothing too crazy. I paid $118 full set After reading reviews, it honestly sketched me out from signing up for a membership. My husband decided to do a surprised booking massage for my mom and I. Let me start with please do not waste your money nor your time here. My husband got me the 90 mins package with deep tissue. So my appointment was 4:45pm. I got there at 4:43pm you have to wait in your car and call them when your outside they will open the door and let you in once their ready for you. They have you fill out questionnaire form. Then they take you to a room and you undress to your comfort zone and you lay on the massage table on your belly. The massage did not start until 5:05pm. So I was asked what area was my focused and I said lower back. I was thinking like yeah this is going to be good and so she massages my my back, arms and thighs to my toes. Very light on the head and face massage. But I did ask for a little more heavy hand. She continued to do a gently massage. She told me I was done get dressed and leave the door open so she can take me to the next session. And when I opened the door that was at 5:37pm. That was the fastest body massage ever in my life. Then I go to the next room at 5:45pm which was the next session. So they put oil on your hands and feet and then they put plastic bags on your hands and feet to wear so that you can place your hands and feet into the feet and hands heating pad from Conair for 10mins, then someone will use a hot towel to take it off and you get on this massage chair for 20mins. The massage chair brand is called Irest. Got done with that at 6:20pm. And was getting ready to leave then the lady from the front ask me is this a Groupon thing? And I said I honestly don't know my husband booked it and he took care of it already and she had to call around and see because she said in the system said it wasn't paid. And didn't get to leave there until 6:37pm standing around trying to figure out if it was paid or not.....So supposedly 90mins was actually only 60mins.......for 264$ that's insane. That is freaking terrible...I was soo disappointed. Never have I been disappointed at a massage place before. So I did talk to my husband and I told him please never do that again although it was very sweet of him to do. He didn't know any better. My first experience with Ella was last summer when my sister purchased a Groupon and we went together and go a Spa afternoon special for my birthday. They had some scheduling issues based on one of their masseuses getting in a car accident. This resulted in my sis getting a Massage and the owner herself coming in to do my facial. The service we received was OUTSTANDING that day and we left super excited about finding a new place after having just moved to the area in May/June. My second experience was truly disappointing. I called and told them I'd had a bad experience at another nail salon and my nails were in bad shape. I had fiberglass nails with gel color & I needed them fixed for a convention I was leaving for the following Tuesday. I told her I had evening availability based on my work schedule. The young woman, Georgia, offered me daytime spots. I reiterated my availability, and asked for Monday. She stated they didn't have the availability for the 7 days I had given them in the evening. I said ok and I'd call somewhere else. She then asked me to hold, came back on and stated that she could fit me in on Thursday evening at 6:15 but she'd call me if she could get me in earlier. The day of, she called and asked I I could arrive my 5:45. I arrived at 5:20 after spending 15 minutes trying to find their new location, in an unmarked building down a long hallway. Google maps through my iPhone shows that they are located 1/2 mile away in a brick wall. Imagine my surprise when Georgia tells me that they are aware, they have been in contact with Google but they are not willing to pay the $100 fee to fix it. I don't like to waste my time driving in circles. 45 minutes into creating a gummy mess on my hands by soaking them in chemicals to remove these tips, I find out they don't actually do anything other than standard polish & gel polish. At this point there's no turning back. 20 minutes later, I'm told they won't have time to finish & paint my nails. By this time Georgia has walked over to check on progress 4 times. It was clear they were closing at 7 without regards to the fact that they were not done. I left with a sticky gooey mess on my hands, clear nail strengthener & skin so dry my skin on my knuckles cracked & bleed from the acetone bath. They were so worried about rushing me out the door, they wouldn't let me wash my hands or put on moisturizer. They could have spent an extra 15 minutes and been HEROS. Instead, they have proven: 1. Their time is more valuable than mine. 2. They care very little about the overall impression of their clients. 3. It's more about quantity than quality. read more

I've hesitated in writing a review for this place for a couple of weeks now because I was so livid with my recent and final visit ever to Ella for a gel manicure. Ive been to Ella three times total, none of those visits resulted in a positive experience. Why go back? I received 4 gift cards over time, and most recently, I combined two gift cards in order to never have to return. My first visit in was questionable, but I thought maybe it was just me having an off day. So I went in a second time for a facial, hated it and swore up and down to myself I'd never go back. I then received 2 more gift cards in 2015 and saved them all this time to avoid going in and finally caved a couple of weekends ago when I needed a manicure. Writing this review is already causing my blood to boil, so I'm not going to regale the saga of my third and final visit for the gel mani. However I will say, I simply do not like the energy of this place. No one on staff ever seems to know the exact price of anything, including the owner. They constantly have to reference the menu to give a quote since each service has two prices. My facial included a lot of upselling--one of my biggest pet peeves during a facial. It seems like the staff is trained to find any possible maneuver to offer unsolicited recommendations of the salon's products and services, i.e. talking about how their makeup is SO much better than MAC and it is ALL they wear because it's mineral and the owner makes her own formula. Or how their tanning solution is also their own recipe and bronze not orange like the rest of the world. Also, since each time I went in there was an issue with the staff/service provided, the rest of the staff hanging around found some way to come and share that they ALWAYS get said service done and they've NEVER had any issue. I don't mean any hate at all towards this place. Like I said, I do not like the energy whatsoever. When I go for a pedicure, or a facial, or a manicure--it's my time to relax. That is my ultimate goal. For whatever reason, Ella sends me into a panic before my service and I walk out practically fuming. I have been coming Ella blue since they opened-well over 10 years by now. My husband returned from deployment and booked me a spa package. They promised him they would book me a massage, facial, and mani/pedi. He wanted something that week but had to book out into the following week so they could make everything happen in the same day. I arrived for my appointment, not knowing the conversation, and they told me they were doing a sugar scrub instead....which confused me since my husband said massage. The scheduled massage actually didn't show up, so it was great that they switched me last minute, but they tried to say my husband was aware of the sugar scrub instead of a massage. When I had come back home my husband was very disappointed, as that was not the conversation that he had with them. On a Friday afternoon I had my services, and by the following afternoon, my manicure started to chip! It was a full day of parties so there was no time to call or pop back in. By Sunday (only two days since my mani/pedi) two nails were almost bare, and one toe nail had started to chip away?! Ladies, you KNOW that toe nail polish could last through an apocalypse.... I am seriously floored at the poor quality, especially considering I have always been so happy with Ella Blue. I called and left a message for the owner, Julie, but now after reading some of these other reviews, I'm very concerned if I'll hear back. Will update later if they make things right. I did love my facial and microdermabrasion, like I always do. My husband and I just moved to Elk Grove and I needed a salon where I could take care of my nails, waxing, massages, facials, etc. They have a great membership program where you pay monthly towards your services and get steep discounts. They are close to our house. I REALLY wanted to like them. And after getting my nails done, I did! Maria was on point. Then today I came in for a Brazilian and brow/lip wax. My aesthetician was late. Receptionist said she had to go pick up her kids - no problem, I get it. Receptionist brought we some water, I waited, happily and eagerly. Then Julie came in. I didn't realize it was her, because she was in no rush, whatsoever. In fact, she made no effort to apologize or let me know she was aware I was waiting, she did not even come over to me. Instead she proceeded to talk to another client of hers (not getting a service), that happened to be at the front desk, for 10 min. Brownie points lost. But ok, I still really want to like this place and am trying to stay open-minded. When she finally begins to work on me, she sits me in front of the salon window, facing out into the parking lot to do my lip and brows. I'm a bit at a loss for words because that is a strange place to do waxing, but I go with it. A couple of swipes in I ask if we can go into the room instead, Julie is flexible, I think, ok maybe this won't be too bad. The room. I am assuming this is also the massage and facial room. It's dark, the sink does not work, it's a bit dirty, and definitely does not exude good vibes. Music is standard "massage" music, which is the only redeeming (somewhat) quality. So maybe this is why they do as much possible waxing in the front of the salon. Julie does my eyebrows. She is pretty quick, but at the end does not bring me a mirror to make sure I am satisfied, no questions asked. When I am changing for the Brazilian I look in the mirror and realize that there are definitely stray hairs and I will have to go over it with a tweezer at home. At this point I am contemplating bailing on the Brazilian because I am picky, my previous aesthetician was amazing and I have high standards and don't want to be disappointed. But I still really want to like this place. So I stay. Bad move. The Brazilian is done with the same wax as the face. Not hard wax. Liquid, with the fabric strips. More points lost. The wax got cold so Julie went out to heat it up again, not wearing gloves. Came back in, did not put on any gloves and went back to the Brazilian. I am wary but stay in there. I specify exactly what I want done (not too much in, clean up all of the bikini area, then I will decide how far I want to go in). I show using my hands exactly where I want her to stop. She then proceeds to take off way too much on the 3rd strip, going in to a shape that has nothing in common with what I asked. And then asks me to hold my skin back for her to do this. This is where I am done. I have not been asked this since 10 years ago, when I was a college student, going to cheap salons and eating top ramen for dinner. I have never gotten up from the table and asked to stop the service. Until today. Honorary bonus point - at least she did not charge me for the quarter of a Brazilian that I am going to have to fix, and I was able to get an appt at another salon tomorrow, before going out of town. Don't even bother trying to make an appointment here. I showed up for my first scheduled appointment and they had cancelled it and didn't even bother to call. They said they left me a voicemail, but didn't. I rescheduled for 3 weeks later and the night before my scheduled appt, they called to cancel my appointment AGAIN. They asked me to reschedule for the third time and did not offer any compensation for this huge inconvenience. I told them I am no longer interested in wasting anymore time or giving my money to a company who can't even get their shit together. I wish there was a zero star option. read more

I went for the Blue Mani -- which is a $26 manicure that includes a scrub and massage. (There's also a basic mani for $18 and a mani with a paraffin dip for $32.) All nail services have a cocktail theme. The mani took place at what looked like a bar. My nails were soaked in a large margarita glass. And the scrubs were named after cocktails. I liked that this place had a fun and friendly atmosphere. But it was uncomfortable to sit on a stool during the manicure. I had to lean forward in order for the nail technician to reach my hands. After 15 minutes of sitting still, my back hurt. read more

About two years ago a friend referred me here for Ella Blue's cosmetics. I previously had been using MAC but had terrible breakouts. As soon as I walked into Ella Blue, Jen - the owner- commented that she could tell I used MAC, as my breakouts were pretty typical for that line of cosmetics (she went on to explain the reason being MAC is meant for temporary use for modeling/photography). She let me sample several of her products and cosmetics and I've been sold ever since. I love the tinted moisturizing foundation as it has sunscreen (but not the sunscreen smell), moisturizer and gives subtle sheer natural coverage. I also use the glycolic fashwash and have almost no breakouts at this point. The mint mask is awesome for overnight spot treatments - dab it on before bed and the spot is nearly gone in the morning! read more

I went to Ella Blue to get a custom Ella facial ($76), which is not their basic facial. After waiting for a little bit, Maria took me in for the facial and asked what brought me in. I just told her that my main concern is black heads/white heads (I have great skin otherwise). At this point, she tried to 'sell' me two upgrades to my facial, some mango peel or microdermabrasion ($50 on top of the price I was paying for the already expensive facial). Anyway, I politely refused and she said like well you'll 'still' get your full facial but for next time...I was like really!? So this put me on edge even before the facial started. As for the actual facial, she did an okay job. I think the facial lasted about 50 mins, out of which it seemed it at least 25 were spent on just me getting some steam! Yes my face looked better after all that steaming! I wouldn't be going back though. Definitely not worth it! read more
