This was my 1st visit and I absolutely loved it. Love the decor and the feel of the place. I ordered the pork chop dinner with string beans, cabbage, and potato salad. I could only eat 1 pork chop, which was seasoned great but a little tough. If cooked 1 min less on each side would be perfect. Cabbage was delicious. Potato was good, but just a little too much dill seasoning. Too full to eat the strings beans, but definitely looking forward to them. I will definitely be back.

I had been to this establishment before when it was across the street at the mall. I love how they were able to grow - and I love seeing them succeed. Normally when I'd visit, I'd order a dinner. Back then, an order took time, thus I assumed it was cooked fresh. They now have food behind the glass that you do not have to wait on to be cooked. I assume, the most popular items are behind the glass. I ordered a catfish sandwich. I wanted something hot and built with love. I wanted more than a fish sandwich from Popeyes, Burger King, or McDonald's... well, they gave me two pieces of fish that were warm (cooked earlier) and two slices of cool bread. It was definitely not what I expected for $9. At the same time, it's not bad. I went home and added some tomatoes, pickles ... and stuff. It was decent. This is NOT the place to go to for a fish sandwich. When I return, I'll get a meal. You can get more fish, two sides, and bread for not much more money. The place appeared clean.

6 Fried Wings, Mac & Cheese, Yams and Cornbread

I've been eating here for years, been a loyal customer since they were in Forestville Mall. This was my first time trying them since they moved across the street, and there have been some noticeable changes. First off, you can't call in orders anymore. I learned that the hard way the first time I tried to order after the move. I was told, "We don't do call-in orders on this side, sir" , no further explanation. So this time, I just went in person. They've definitely expanded, much bigger space. Looks like they've got two small bar areas (unoccupied when I visited) and four dining areas: two larger ones and two smaller ones with just high tables as soon as you walk in. Now all the food is laid out buffet-style on hot tables, even stuff that used to be cooked to order, like the wings, which is all I ever get. I was skeptical about that because when I first started coming here, the wait was 25-30 minutes even with call-in orders. But once I got there, I understood the new setup. I was also worried the wings might not be hot anymore since they're no longer made to order, but they were still nice and hot, so that was a win. The 6-wing dinner used to be $15, which honestly, was underpriced. So I'm not mad at the price increase($20 now), but with that increase, I'm more critical now. I waited about 15 minutes just to place my order because the line was long, but that's still better than waiting 25-30 minutes like before. Still, it's not as convenient as calling it in. Food was still solid. Chicken: hot and seasoned right Mac and cheese: creamy and just right Yams and cabbage: still hitting like always Cornbread muffin: still not a fan, but I never have been Looks like they're setting up a self-service kiosk too, which wasn't working yet when I went. I'll go back on a less busy day to see what the wait looks like and whether the wings stay hot even when it's not peak time.

    Pork Chop Platter
    Latonya H.

Decided to come and try Ella's since my regular place was closed and I wanted a pork chop meal. When you walk into the restaurant you have to walk in to the back as the front is the bar area. The place was packed I guess no one wanted to cook...lol. The line was long but it was moving fast as most of the food is already prepared. I ordered the pork chop platter, the lady that took my order told me that it was going to be a wait since there were none available at the moment. I didn't have a problem waiting since I knew that my food was going to be hot and fresh. We'll let me tell you the lady that took my order completely forgot about me and I ended up waiting 30 minutes for my food. Another server asked me what I ordered because she seen that I been waiting for a long time and made my food. She was very nice and apologized for the wait and other lady forgetting about me. Now let's get to the food. The pork chops were freshly cooked and hot but were very tough. The greens were great and the Mac and cheese were okay. Would I come back maybe but it wouldn't be my first choice.

But now I seem to find it conveniently on 19th whenever I'm walking over there! Right now they're there on Mondays and Thursdays -- I recall searching for them on other days, but I didn't see them at the locations their website said they would be. But since it's been consistently coming to 19th Street, I have had the opportunity to have it twice, and I had the JerkBowl each time. The chicken comes off the bone so easily, and it is indeed JERKED! It's got a great taste, and the yellow rice it comes with compliments it very well. I will be trying their mac and cheese and greens in the near future, hopefully. I hope that they continue to get great business because this is food that should not be ignored! They seem to also actively become familiar with their regulars and they're super polite.

Located at 6120 Marlboro Pike., District Heights M.D. nestled between a tattoo parlor, and a couple other stores you'll find @luvplatesgrill with their beautifully designed black & orange signage!! This spot is momentarily take out only, they accept cash, and credit/debit, and they also have catering available. Their menu is concise, simple, and effective. They have sizable bowls like their DC Gumbo (with turkey sausage, and hormone free chicken $15), and their Homestyle Jerk Chicken (24 hour marinated wings smothered over red beans & rice $15). They also have some signature sandwiches like their "Jimmy Blue"(Maryland lump crab cake $20), and their "Fall off the Bone"(24 hour LuvRub-Ribs-w/BBQ sweet sauce $10). The sides include their World Famous Mac n Cheese (pictured-$8 reg. size), "Mamas Greens"(pictured-$8 reg. size), and their flavorful Red beans & Rice ($4 reg. size). On this trip I copped their Mac n Cheese, a Homestyle Jerk chicken sandwich (pictured-$6 on potato bread), and their 3 for $20 deal where I chose the Pan-seared Salmon ($3 extra), Mamas greens, and the 24 hr. Jerk chicken with the Red beans, and rice. So I started by dipping into the greens...FRESH, and seasoned to perfection!! I then took a bite out of the jerk chicken sandwich...I didn't want to stop!! It was glistening with flavor, a hint of bbq mixed with the jerk made for a tasty sandwich. Then I put a fork to the jerk wings, and watched the meat fall off the bone right into the red beans and rice. Spiced right, savory...it hit the spot. So I'm not a huge Salmon fan, but their pan seared fish with peppers, jerk sauce with a hint of bbq...made me a bigger fan!! Deliciousness!! Lastly I tackled that Mac n Cheese...I was leery via the price, and the "World Famous" title. When you go...GET IT...it's worth it. Customer service was phenomenal, they patiently explained their meals, and spotlighted the freshness of their food (which you can definitely taste). Parking is tricky, it's a very small lot they share. GO!! TRUST!! That's it.

Crispy Fried Goodness....that Hits the Spot!…read more This was the first time I trying this restaurant. I came here, starving after hanging out with some friends at the nearbyFish Market Bar. I must say I was a little hesitant due to the place being completely empty on a Friday night, but I was like .... I'll take one for the team because I was starving and needed something to stop up the libation. lol. To my surprise, the food was actually good--well, shall I say decent. Good as in average in taste, but was prepared fresh and made to order. Also, the restaurant was very clean, the portions were huge and priced well. I ordered triple platter that came with fried shrimp, fried wings, and fried Whiting with a side of fries. I also tried a triple combo platter that was served with chicken tenders, shrimp, and fried Whiting with a side of hush puppies. The food was fried well, not greasy and I could tell it was fresh.... Not preheated or precooked. One stand out for sure where the chicken tenders! They were my favorite of everything I tried. They were cooked to perfection!! Not to mention, tasted great! I would say both platters and the food could have used a bit more seasoning..... especially that fried whiting and fries. The fried whiting and fries were both bland for my taste. The fries need to be changed out or stepped up to "crinkled fries!".....love them things!! The fries served here are more "regular cut" type fries that left a lot to be desired. But, overall no disappointment here. Besides, better to be served food that's not overly salty-seasoned......because I like to doctor up my food at home. It's the best way to layer in flavor and control the overuse or amount of sodium places most establishments use around the DMV. This place also serve gyros, hamburgers, subs and steak & cheese sandwiches....of course fried seafood and other menu items....including desserts! There were tons of cakes to choose from with a Strawberry Hennessy Cake that definitely caught my eye and was calling me while o was there...but I resisted. lol. Also, one plus that's stood out about this place is that they offer lots of sides to compliment your dish such as seasoned fries, okra, mac n' cheese, collards, salads, and hush puppies to name a few. In all, not a bad visit or experience. The food was good as well as the price point. Despite being light on this seasoning tip, I had no complaints. The great customer service and cleanings of the restaurant makes up for it...imho. Not to mention, I felt more relieved seeing more people come into the restaurant to place and pick up orders as I was leaving. Better tasting fries, and a little seasoning on the fish..... would have easily tipped this place to 4 stars!...imho I would try Sharks Fish & Chicken again and recommend!

Shark's Fish, Chicken and Seafood…read more Well, this turned out to be an unfortunate decision on my part. My mom had a taste for fish with soul-food sides, and since we were in the Clinton, MD area, I opened the Google box and searched exactly that. Bingo... Shark's appeared. But after spending thirty-some dollars, I would've preferred if an actual shark had appeared. As always, I'll be fair and balanced. Starting with the customer service: it wasn't bad. The gentleman at the counter was polite, and there were no pushy upsells. The establishment is your standard strip-mall carryout. Aside from the bathrooms being out of order, there wasn't much else to report. Now, as for the food. I ordered fish, greens, "cajun rice" (or "dirty rice," depending on what they call it), and mac and cheese. From the first bite, I knew I had messed up. I dipped into the rice and thought, "Oh wow, did I order vinegar and rice?" Hesitant to let my mom try any of it, I insisted on sampling everything first. Glad, yet mad that I did. The fish carried the souls of every fish cooked before it. The greens were completely void of soul, yet somehow had a high concentration of soil. And the mac and cheese? Well, that dish would get you banned from the 'cookout'. If you know what I mean! Recommendation level: Go only if you plan to join me in a protest.

The place can get quite busy so I would highly recommend making a reservation first. We ordered some cocktails which all tasted amazing, I enjoyed the espresso martini the most. My wife and I arrived around 1:20 p.m. on a Thursday. The lunch crowd was still going strong, which only reinforced that we had picked a popular spot. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill almost immediately. When we walked in, there was no hostess to be found. After waiting about four minutes, she finally appeared and offered us a choice between a small table in the corner or one by the bar. Given how busy the restaurant was, we took the table by the bar. About seven minutes later, someone finally came by to offer us water and explained that our server was busy, but she would help us in the meantime. No problem. We ordered the Avo Goddess Salad and asked that it be split so we could share it. A few minutes later, our server arrived, introduced herself, and we let her know we had already ordered the salad and were ready to place our lunch orders. She was very helpful in guiding my wife toward the Old Bay Shrimp Burger. I was excited to order the Shrimp and Grits until I learned it contained Andouille sausage and, according to our server, couldn't be prepared without it. Since the restaurant highlights that everything is made from scratch, that surprised me. I ended up ordering the Ahi Tuna Salad instead. So far, so good. Then came the frustration. We spent the next 20 minutes slowly picking at our salad, growing increasingly hungry and confused. You know something is wrong when guests who were seated after you begin receiving their meals before you. Finally, at 2:10 p.m., our food arrived: my Ahi Tuna Salad and a Pulled Lamb Sandwich for my wife. Except my wife had ordered the Shrimp Burger. When we pointed out the mistake to what was now our third server, she quickly assured us it would be corrected. A few minutes later, our original server returned and took full responsibility. She explained that the lamb and shrimp items are next to each other in the POS system and she accidentally selected the wrong item. She assured us the Shrimp Burger would be out in two minutes and suggested we enjoy the fries that came with the lamb sandwich while we waited. Unfortunately, another ten minutes passed before the burger finally arrived. Here's where things became truly disappointing: the top bun was still cold--almost frozen. My wife ended up removing it entirely and eating the sandwich with just the bottom bun. At best, the Shrimp Burger was decent, but certainly not worth the wait and frustration. As for my Ahi Tuna Salad, it felt like something I could easily make at home, especially considering the $25 price tag. I'm also not entirely convinced the tuna was particularly fresh. I can't bring myself to give Matt and Tony's one star because the atmosphere is genuinely cool and inviting. So I settled on two stars--mostly for how I felt before the experience unraveled. And listen, I get it. Mistakes happen. We're all human. But as someone who eats out frequently, here's one piece of advice: when a restaurant makes a significant mistake with a customer's order, consider taking that item off the bill. Sometimes that gesture is the only reason a guest decides to come back.
