I was in town for business for the day and needed to grab dinner before heading out to my hotel. I saw the good reviews for this place and came here for dinner at 7 PM. I walked in, was seated with some difficulty as it took a moment to get the attention of the waitress/bartender (foreshadowing what was to come), and placed my order for French onion soup and a pizza. I was one of two patrons at the restaurant; another couple of people were at the bar. The place was not remotely close to busy. The soup came out quickly; it was mediocre and overly salty, but serviceable. Then I waited for nearly an hour. I found this odd, as at this point I was literally the only restaurant patron and a pizza can't possibly take that long, so a little past 8 PM I asked where my pizza was. Turns out, my order was straight up forgotten, and by that point the kitchen had closed. The waitress/bartender hesitatingly comped my soup (she had initially come to hand me the check after I complained, then, holding the check in her hand, paused, thought better of it, then told me to not worry about paying for the soup -- as if, after entirely forgetting my existence for an hour, comping the soup was an act of supreme generosity on her part), which was the least she could do. However, instead of apologising, she spent time trying to convince me that this wasn't her fault, that it was the kitchen's fault, that I must have seen how she was so busy at the bar (she wasn't), and that she personally knew I had ordered a pizza -- the main concern here for her was not that a restaurant patron had been entirely abandoned, but that she, specifically, not be blamed. Then, to add insult to injury, as I left, she told me on my way out that "you're young, you'll be okay" -- as if my frustration over her/her restaurant's mistake of literally forgetting my order was some unfortunate event over which she had no control, deserving of pity but not an apology. I've eaten at a lot of restaurants, some good, some bad, but I must say that it's a first for me to be completely forgotten when I am the sole patron at a restaurant. Since I went to this restaurant to eat pizza for dinner and did not end up eating any pizza for dinner despite my best efforts, I can't recommend this place or its rude, patronising, forgetful service. read more

Wanted to eat here as I'm staying in a hotel just around the corner. When I came in around 5pm I was not greeted by anyone. Not sure if this is a place where you just seat yourself or have to wait to be seated, maybe a sign up front would be nice. Stood there for a few minutes and a waiter walked past me and just stared. the bartender who was serving a few people also just stared at me. She was chatting with the people at the bar and I didn't want to be rude and interrupt her conversation, but we made eye contact multiple times. Not sure if I was in the wrong place or what but a quick "someone will be with you to seat you in a second" or "you just seat yourself" or SOMETHING from either of the two staff who were just staring at me would've gone a long way. After about five minutes of standing around probably looking like an idiot I just walked out and took my money elsewhere. read more

Stopped In for dinner In this cozy spot for dinner last night with a coworker. It was his suggestion. Well it was a great suggestion. The service and food were way above standard. We got their during a Hockey game and this place was absolutely packed but the staff was on top of it and in such great sports too. We split a pizza and some meatballs and each got a salad. You know trying to keep that girlish figure. Lol. For us celiacs the gluten free crust was awesome and it's homemade. The salad had a raspberry vinaigrette with nuts and dried cranberries was crazy good along with the grilled chicken. Overall this place hit the spot and was a joy to find as much as I travel. Definitely felt like I took advantage of the place when the bill came. Very reasonable prices for the quality and amount of food. This is such a cute restaurant located near where I work in Newark! I came here for a team lunch with a party of 15 people and Ellie's Bistro was very accommodating to our large party! We called in advance to let them know we were coming and were seated immediately. The servers were extremely attentive in remembering all our drinks and food orders and I was most impressed with the speed of the service- the food came out in less than 10 minutes for all 15 of us!!! And you could see the chefs making the pizza live so you know they make everything fresh. The prices were also insanely cheap and the quantity of food was more than enough. So nice to see spots like this in an otherwise not so modern/ up and coming city! read more

Went there last night with my husband and a couple friends. I was excited to try it due to the great reviews! We went on a Friday night before a show so it was busy. We expected it to be busy and service to be a little slow but the service was absolutely terrible. We finished our food before our drinks arrived. While we were eating we asked 2 different waiters and THE MANAGER for water! We were literally eating hot wings without water. The staff was rude and unapologetic. We ended up canceling our drinks because we were there for over an hour with no drinks! The manager acted as if she was doing us a favor by taking our drinks off the bill...drinks we never received. I will never go back. Worst service ever. I don't think those servers wanted to work it was alarming. Sad because the food was pretty good. read more

Stayed at the Fairfield inn near Newark Airport and it was difficult to find a restaurant that would deliver to us - we didn't have a car. Luckily, Ellie's bistro did deliver through grub hub. Food was okay but service was slow. When we got the bill we were overcharged - we asked for no pasta and they then offered to substitute with veggies. We got a couple of slices of zucchini and were charged 33 percent more without warning. The best surprise was when the bill came with a set 20% minimum tip and we were party of two. Ellie's is awesome! We went in after having an Italian craving and we're so pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. The staff was kind and attentive, the cocktails were so good I had one too many, and the food was absolutely delicious. Very cool little place mostly Italian cuisine with pizzas and sandwiches but they have an amazing selection of desert pizzas I recommend the strawberry guava paste pizza it's a hot pie with guava / strawberry and cream cheese if you ever had a guava baked good imagine that except in pizza form I can't recommend this pie more! what a great idea. read more

This place is .7 miles from where we were staying. The pizza was cold and limp and the crust was burned. The salad was warm and the crotons were mushy. Clearly this food sat around for awhile. We ate it because we were starving and from out of town with no car. Otherwise, I would have called for them to come get it and ordered from somewhere else. read more

This place should be sued for fraud. We arrived 2.5 hours before an event @ The Rock. Were told 40 mins, but that all would be well because there is an hr limit at tables. LIES!!! An hour and 20 mins later we reminded the hostess of the "1-hr limit" and were told "but theyre not leaving". The whole thing was infuriating! NEVER AGAIN! We stumbled in on a quick weekend trip to see the Army Navy game. Ate there Friday night and came back Saturday night.
