i've come here in the past and i've never had trouble however recently the place seems to have fallen off. Me and my friend came and we ordered juice only to be told it was "old" and for my friends drink to come with a bug and some weird particles inside, it's fine and we switched to soda. When the food came my friend ordered a spicy shrimp roll only for it to be wrong, when my friend asked she said it was that except the sushi was an imitation crab roll. we then ordered another meal and requested salt for the salt to be literally rock solid in the bottle and on the cap.

The menu has a little for everyone, not just Japanese food. The sushi was fine. Nothing special Great red sangria. Subpar slow inattentive service.

Outdoor seating was nice. Food and service good! My first drink and the water tasted funny. Like maybe the glass or the ice was moldy. After I got a new glass and several drinks later I didn't smell or taste it again.

    The famous sushi tower

Manu's is a very interesting take on sushi lounge meets tapas bar. I think because of it's location among the Portuguese restaurants, the tapas option is a good call for those that aren't fans of sushi. I only tried the sushi here but the tapas menu looked quite interesting as well. After seeing the famous sushi tower on Yelp, I decided that I needed to try it for myself (or mostly photograph it for myself). The fish was really fresh and while it was kind of expensive for an appetizer I think it could easily be eaten as a meal itself or split between several people. I decided to eat it as a meal and I was definitely pretty full. There was salmon, tuna, and yellowtail along with cucumbers, avocado and rice. The ambiance is pretty nice considering its location in Newark and while I didn't get to check out the upstairs it looked like a good spot for private parties. There is a bar as well and I believe that they have happy hours here so it's definitely a good place to stop into after work.

I'm sold on this place. The look, the drinks and the food. 1st time - We sat in the lounge area near the entrance during the Portugal parade. It was so cool - the decor paired w/ the activities made for a getaway feel. We did Shumai, Lump Crab Wrap and Shrimp Tempura Roll. All delish. The Mojito is the best I've had in a long time *hi5* to the bartender. 2nd time - We sat outside under the big umbrellas and wicker woven seats w/ a nice Reisling, Lobster and Shrimp Rolls. Perfect again. Both times attentive staff, good vibes, laid back chill flow and some yummy sushi. There were dates, lone patrons, girls and guys just hangin' out...it's just that type of spot, for everyone. They definitely have a good thing going here.

Sushi was amazing and fresh. My boyfriend and I ordered the shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna roll and California roll. Very fresh ! Prices were decent . The outside sitting was nice and chill. Waitress did not speak fluent English but she was attentive to our needs. Parking is on the street so it is limited. Wait for table was no time ! Will keep this restaurant in mind for good fresh sushi..

I ordered some type of shrimp wrap; there were nice succulent shrimp in every bite. It came with a choice of sweet potato fries or homemade potato chips; I opted for the potato chips. The wrap was very filling and since I am a carb watcher, I ate half with the bread and picked the shrimp out of the other half, either way, I'm still stuffed. The potato chips were just okay, they were not as crispy as I'd like and over-cooked in appearance. The Sangria was also okay, but definitely had kick $11 for a glass and $15 for a pitcher (now I need to call my designated driver or an Uber). Since this place has a lot of Sushi , I'm not sure if its worth revisiting for this Non-Sushi Eater, but I would recommend it to the Sushi lover.

I've been coming here for many years and it is a great place to have a quick bite with friends or dinner with family. It has something for everyone, from sushi to soups and salads. Staff is attentive and friendly. Unique and great atmosphere. I love their salads, udon chicken soup is amazing and to seal the deal, you have to try their banana tempura with vanilla ice cream. It is a nice shareable size dessert.

Terrible!! Godzilla roll deep fried way to hard with over burnt tempura and fish almost chipped my tooth i don't know if it was because it was 10pm and maybe the sushi chef was tipsy or tired but I won't be going back!!!!!!!! Horrible first impression and for that no stars for me

HOLY SHIT I AM IN LOVE!!!! this place deserves soooooo many more stars AND a 5+star bonus haiku~ japan brazil eats, with 90s alt rock around, give manu a chance!!! i confess... i walked in looking for sushi and i was nervous about walking into some trendy bar pretending to have eclectic food to draw in snazzy upscale customers. but the hostess was so friendly and kind i decided to give it a shot. soon i realized the music was ALL 90s alternative rock nonstop and that was already a HUGE win for my heart. so i relaxed a bit and decided on a special treat of wine (and if the food was decent but not fabulous, wine helps with that too.) then the hostess came over and doubled as my waitress and was so personable and knowledgable and considerate and friendly. having food sensitivities, I always feel weird asking for special treatment and always appreciate kind, supportive staff who don't make me feel like the pain-in-the-ass that I am! ;) haha So I cracked open the menu and was happily surprised with the mix of food and then DUH I realized... the Ironbound district is portuguese, yes but then has a healthy brazilian community too... and far back into the reaches of my world history reminded me about japanese brazilians! and BOOM i couldn't help myself and wanted to order ever single thing on the menu. after much deliberation... the grilled octopus is a rare treat beyond anything i could possibly think of for my day today. if someone said, "kate what is something happy you will eat today?" i might have begrudgingly replied with a piece of decadent dark chocolate or maybe something fancy from the whole foods buffet bar... but this!? this amazing octopus friend!?! sure beats the grilled octopus i had on the streets of the nyc little italy fair... and that was yum. so please! give this place a try. i doubt my good experience here was merely just "luck" and hope you will give Manu's a chance. In the meantime... I will be in the corner getting giggly on my malbec and slurping up my squiggly octopus tentacle :p

    Strawberry martini, my favorite!

After stopping here several times, I'd like to offer some more insight to this place. I still think this joint is a solid 4-star sushi restaurant, but I've formed some clearer opinions. As a vegetarian, I love the sushi here. They have a nice variety of vegetable rolls that are flavorful and satisfying. The mango roll and sweet potato roll are both dynamite. The mango roll is refreshing and surprisingly crunchy. The sweet potato roll is comfortingly warm and soothing. It's sweeter than you'd expect. Damn, I DREAM about that thing. My friend, however, claims their specialty "fishy" rolls are not quite as top notch. Or, at least, she declares they are not as good as their prices imply they should be. The prices for the specialty rolls are steep, I admit... I can't personally comment on the quality. All I know is the veggie rolls are slammin' and priced normally ($4-6). One of my favorite aspects of this place (besides that damn sweet potato roll!!) are the COCKTAILS. You wouldn't expect it, but Manu's can shake up a sick drink. I give two thumbs, five stars, and a smiley-face sticker for their martinis. They use fresh fruit purees! They are all great, but the strawberry martini is my favorite. The atmosphere is trendy and perhaps even a little sexy, especially by Newark standards. Despite the fact that my friend prefers some other sushi places to get her fishy fix, we still stop here frequently for the experience (okay, and the booze). The desserts are pretty great, too. :) But like I said in my other review, be careful. It's very easy to drop way too much cash here. Appetizers, desserts, rolls, and cocktails add up very, very quickly, even if you're splitting things with a friend!

Can you make out the specials?

I don't even know where to begin when describing this place (because I've never fallen in love with a restaurant so quickly), but here goes nothing. Ferry Street is known for its IBERIAN food. Most restaurants are relatively inexpensive and well worth it and because of this I thought I had seen and tasted it all (as I was born and raised in the area). That was until a friend of mine introduced me to Manu's. You walk into the restaurant and there is patio-like area where you can enjoy the ambiance of being outside but are protected from the sun and walkers-by but say for the heck of it you decide to eat inside, maybe you like AC... That's okay because the inside is just as pretty and the service probably quicker. As you walk in you'll notice tasteful booths and small tables line the restaurant and you'll have your pick if you come in on a day like Sunday during the afternoon. I came with a party of three in all and we ordered 1 specialty roll and 2 regular ones and luckily for us Sunday's were half price Sushi & Sake. The sake, unfortunately, I didn't not take advantage of. Instead the three of us shared a $21 pitcher of delicious sangria that seems a bit atrocious but after three rolls, two appetizers and three glasses each of wine (from the pitcher) and ONLY a $53 bill +tip, it just could not be beat. All in all, I'm looking for reasons just to end up on Ferry just to go back to this place. With it's trendy look, tropical feel and daily specials this place is sure to do well... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR...?!

Very different from the rest of the restaurants on ferry street in the sense that they are a sushi lounge. I love this place!

A mixture of either old, sketchy, no sex appeal and rough around the edges. The dance floor was packed and the music was on point. There was some people that set up food in the back but it left a trail of an odor that was not appetizing. Drinks were ok at best but when I asked for a cup with ice it seemed to be an issue. Very off putting. Not quite sure what the issue was.... The bartender brought the manager over and I had to specify I wanted it for my beer. Yes, I'm a weirdo if I don't get a frosted glass, I'll take a cup with ice. The manager proceeds to ask me ; "So you want me to pour the beer into the cup with ice?" UMMM yes I don't mind pouring it my damn self but if it makes you more comfortable, knock yourself out. It truly didn't make a difference to me who poured it, I just wanted some damn ice to cool myself off! I'm not sure what type of sketchy and shady people they deal with but I am not the one. My boyfriend and I run a good tab on drinks, give me what I'm asking for and paying for! Meanwhile, I did not see just about any of the 30-40 people on the dance floor buy a drink. I then saw hookah's on a table and the price list. Unfortunately, they were not providing hookah service that night. So why have them out? Whewwww I love my house music community and love the Lincoln Park festival that is close to the bar but this past Sunday this bar and crowd missed the mark. The only redeeming factor was the DJ. I highly doubt I'd return unless it were to vibe out and dance to a DJ I reaaaaallly love.

Vault is very okay. We came here as a first stop on my birthday a few weeks ago. We had a…read morereservation. They sat us upstairs and immediately informed us that there was either a 90 minute limit or two-hour limit. Apparently, after that, it's only four bottle service and there is a three bottle minimum for the table we were at. Sooo, it took forever for anyone to even come take our order. And once our server, who was very much a bottle girl, did come by, she was a bit inattentive and still reiterated the time limit, despite the fact that it took her forever to even come see what we needed, bring refills, etc. We ordered food, hookah, and drinks. I always think that hookah situations at lounges are so interesting because who is this one person walking around taking random payments that isn't really affiliated with a business but is? Anyway, I think hookah was like $40-50. Not crazy. The hookah girl checked on it properly so I appreciated that. The drinks were basic. No presentation - just regular degular, ratchet lounge drinks in plastic cups. The food was fine. We ordered truffle fries and the first two orders they brought out to us were cold as hell. They told us they would replace them, but only ended up bringing one. We ordered the salmon bites, too, and those were actually very good. Nothing else was really memorable. Again, the service was extremely slow for a place that had a time limit. We happen to be here on the night that they were celebrating Ghana's Independence Day, which is one of my personal favorite holidays, and the vibes were OK. When we got there, the DJ was doing what he was supposed to do. Then, they did that weird thing that DJs do where they try to use dancehall as a bridge between trap/rap as they make their way to Afrobeats. The Afrobeat selection wasn't even leaning Ghanaian, so that was interesting. Also, it was very much the type of environment/vibe where everybody is just on their phone. There was very minimal dancing aside from this one couple in the middle of the floor that was clearly using it as the play before (if you get me) but they were cute. I would've loved to see more dancing and less standing/posing. Would I return? Maybe.

Sigh. I wanted to enjoy this place but I could not. They advertised karaoke, $10 lemon drops and…read more1/2 off hookah. There was no karaoke, the lemon drops tasted like soap and it was HOT.
