I've never in my life been hooked to a place like Ellis. The fact that I stay near the restaurant makes it sooo much worse on my pockets. There have been weeks I will go here 3 times a week for brave legs and it crawfish when in season. The addiction is sooooo bad I have stopped for my crack (crab legs and crawfish) with dinner already in the car sitting beside me from another establishment. I haven't tried their gumbo yet but it's next on the list. The fish strips, hush puppies, okra are all good. Chicken wings are so so but my only complaint is that they aren't consistent with their flavors some days it's perfect some days not so much but it's still very addictive. I'm nervous I'm going to end up with high cholesterol or high blood pressure from the sodium and how much I frequent the place. The fact that they have a drive thru makes it even better when I don't have to get out the car. The blue slushees are good too. I love seafood but after Ellis even when I travel no one compares. The sauce is like a butter with seasoning mixed in it for the crab legs OMG yummy to my tummy. read more

The service was prompt and they were very friendly. The only thing I didn't like was that the crab legs were over priced for what I got. The clusters/legs were super small. No way it was one pound of crab legs. The price was $11.49/lb. I definitely could have gotten much larger crab legs from Kroger for $8.99/lb and cooked them for what I got and paid. Went for lunch with a few people. I got the 1lb of crablegs and 1/2lb shrimp with a side of fries okra. The crablegs were seasoned good (spicy cajun), but they were the smallest legs I've ever eaten. It also came with 1 half corn on cob, 1 red skin potato and 1 small sausage split. The okra was fried and seasoned well. We eat here all the time, at least once a week!! The food is always good, very flavorful and very affordable. They do take call in orders, if you are wondering-we didn't know for the longest time. Ok so I was very skeptical about this place. I even have came in and left without ordering because of this. But this time we stayed and was so glad that we did! I have been looking for crab legs around Memphis for a good bargain and I found them here. Hands down the best I've had in a long time and a lb for only 11.49, can't beat that at all! The food was good I had shrimp wiith corn and slaw . the corn was tender ,had a good buttery taste. 4 stars is an average - the food was +5 star, restaurant was 2-3 star. Tried the Alaskan crab legs & shrimp-sausage special: Yum, yum and yum. Generous crab serving was sweet and cooked perfectly. melted in your mouth. Shrimp was also perfectly cooked with a great seasoned broth that we were using the bread to soak up. Even the sausage still had the snap at the first bite. We also tried catfish strips and fried oysters. Both were in the same cornmeal coating which worked well on the fish but not the oysters. Fish was crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. The oysters would have been better with a lighter, crisp coating. But - what a great value - all that was only $35!! Wow. From a customer service standpoint, everyone was helpful and friendly and seemed happy to serve all their customers. However, the business seems to be better suited for take-out than sit down. They have plenty of room and tables but everything is served in Styrofoam and plastic bags and they didn't have time to keep up with the dishes so there were no shell crackers. Made eating the crab a little tough...tables and floors could do with a thorough cleaning. As long as your expectations on ambiance aren't high, this would be a strong recommendation. We will definitely be going back the next time we are in the Memphis area!! read more
