I think it's only fair to revisit a review of this company I did many years ago. Over the last couple years things have changed at Ellis Pools. Someone is adequately running the business side of this service company. They now have a very pleasant and capable woman answering the phone and emails. Appointments are made efficiently, confirmed, and service is delivered on time. There is even a maintenance program where you are visited before the swimming season starts to tune up everything. We've worked with Ellis twice... last summer and now-- both times, they've done damage control on are pool cover! Jordan and Rick are amazing, and very responsive. Last summer, we arranged to have them come out... granted it was peak of the season for them, they came and repaired a collapsed pool cover... while another company had told us to replace the cover entirely. Currently, they came on the fly to save our pool cover yet again. I called when they opened... and they arrived by the end of the day. In threat of pouring rain and the cover collapsing (our pool has extremely low water levels-- an unrelated pool issue) the cover would not open, they sent out two professional young men to open the cover manually. I have a very different experience from some of the other reviewers. Had the pool installed about 17 years ago and I believe Ellis did the original installation with the builder. In that time we have had only a few problems and Ellis was quick to repair. Note that we are about 45 min away so I don't expect instant service. My most recent issue occurred 2 days ago. After the pool was opened the cover initially was working fine then stopped after about a week. This was Monday. I tried to tighten the clutch per instructions on the website but this didn't work. I sent an email Tuesday night describing the problem. Called the store and got a message that they had limited staff due to the pandemic and that I should email to a different address than I saw on the website. I forwarded by email to the new address. Within a few hours I had a call back and appointment was set up for Friday which seemed very reasonable. About an hour later I got another call- a job in Little Compton finished early, could they come by? I said great and they were there promptly and job was done. So I supposed the stars were aligned for me but I had my cover working less than 24 hrs after I sent the original email and I could not be happier with the service. The other 2 times I needed them 1. The ropes snapped after about 12 years and had to be replaced done within a week. 2. The entire cover ripped last year and had to be replaced. The replacement cover had to be ordered which took a few weeks but was installed promptly. So for something that sits outside in New England winters for the past 17 years I have found Ellis's service to be great for me and the cover has operated well. In June of 2020, Ellis Pool Covers installed a new automatic cover on our pool on Nantucket. Five weeks later, the mechanism failed and the cover stuck open at approximately three feet from where it started to open. Since the pool was almost totally covered, it was unusable. Our pool service company came and was unable to fix it. They contacted Ellis as they had arranged the installation with Ellis. Ellis promised a service call on July 17 (Friday)and did not come. They did not contact us or the local pool service company who had assured me that Ellis would be there on that date. On the afternoon of the 17th, I called Ellis to verify that they were going to come. There was no answer but instructions to send an email which I did. No response over the weekend from them. On Monday, I called again and was told that they would get back to me. They eventually called to say they would be out on July 30. By then, our pool would have been unusable for most of three weeks at the height of the summer season. I told them this was unacceptable as the expensive. cover was brand new and asked to speak to the owner. He has never called me. Other people have told me of their very difficult experiences with Ellis, so beware! They do not provide service. read more

DO NOT USE. These guys are the absolute worst. They install electronic pool covers at a significant cost and don't stand behind the work. As others have said here, the covers get stuck open or closed or halfway open! They make promises to come and fix their shoddy work and never show up. read more

This has got to be one of the worst businesses in existence. I feel sorry for everyone getting a Coverstar pool cover! Each year our pol cover breaks leaving us unable to fully use the pool. And each year we have to wait --- usually over a month for this jerk to come and fix it. He just shows up. Refuses to return a phone call, won't give you any idea of when (or IF) he'll be able to come to fix it. He couldn't care less about his customers. Unfortunately, he's the only person who will touch Coverstar pool covers in New England. He's absolutely terrible, has the personality of a mean stick of wood, and sells/fixes a product that is plgues with problems. Avoid Coverstar and Ellis Pool Covers like the plague! Update: it's been SIX WEEKS since we called them repeatedely about the broken pool cover and they STILL haven't come to fix it! read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! READ THE OTHER REVIEWS!! If I could give 0 stars, I would. I contracted this company over the winter to build me a cover. I called them in the spring and was told that the cover was complete and would be installed in a few weeks... Well, after a few months, I called back and was told that the parts were in order and it would be ready for install in 2 weeks... Huh... I thought it was complete already? Anyway, I said ok, and waited 2 weeks... 3 weeks... 4 weeks... 5 weeks...... When I called once again to check on it, I was told by Rick Ellis Sr that he was tired of me harassing his company (I guess checking in on a project that was long over due is harrassement), and he refused to do the job. He went a step further, and threatened me and my family, saying he was going to send his 300 lb son over to deal with us. When I asked if he was threatening me, he said, "take it how you want to." Had a great experience with Ellis pool covers very professional and very talented installers.

I had Ellis Pool covers install a manual safety cover last fall. This spring when I went to use it it would not work. I called and they sent a crew out to inspect my cover but offered no solution for me. Although it took a few weeks Richard Jr. came to my house and resolved the issue by discovering that the cover they installed was for automatic pool covers. Richard immediately ordered me the correct cover, made adjustments to the existing cover so that I could use it, and once the correct cover arrived replaced it. I'm a fan! read more

SAVE YOURSELF THE AGGRAVATION FIND ANOTHER COMPANY!!!! My cover worked great for several years until it didn't and then the trouble started. I attempted to get the cover fixed but just got so frustration with Ellis that I stopped using my cover for several years. But in spring 2017 decided to get it going again, bad decision...after 2 trips August 2017 to install, I had a new cover that would not move, but I was promised they would be out first thing the spring 2018! I started calling for an appointment first week of May 2018. In June I received an email telling me that I should find someone else to fix as they were so busy because of the rain...that did not sit well with me. After many more emails and calls I did get them out and the cover was fix the last week of June or so I thought. End of August and it started moving slowly, I call again was told a week or so for an appointment, called 2 weeks later told next week, call the next week this time told not sure when they can get out...this was when I got aggravated I would like an appointment, none can be set. So I started emailing Rick Ellis no response, called again today got an appointment, YEAH for next week but then got a call back & told that they can't service my pool because I'm "RUDE". I can guarantee not rude, definitely upset and frustrated just trying to get an appointment! read more

I want to begin this review by saying that Ellis Pool Covers in no way asked me to do this. After many years of dragging a soggy, leaf-filled, ugly pool cover on and off our pool, we finally decided to purchase a decent pool cover. We got pricing from several area pool service companies - all way beyond our plan. Ellis missed their first appointment but it turns out that they had gone to look at our pool when we were out and came up with a price that was very reasonable. Being a big believer in online reviews, I did my due diligence. The reviews on Yelp scared me away but the price was right so I called the company wanting to know their side of the story. The sales support person was very nice and ruefully said that over the years, there had been issues, mostly around the time it takes to have a custom cover made by the manufacturers. She wasn't pushy but seemed honest. We asked for recommendations and spoke with two very happy customers with similar pools to ours. It was getting late in the season and the thought of another year with a messy tarp was just too much so we put together a timeline with Ellis, paid 2/3 of the price as a deposit and chose them. So glad we did! It took 3 weeks for the cover to be custom made, exactly as expected, and they called about a week early to book the installation. We winterized our pool ourselves, i.e. pulled out the leaves and put in chemicals and they arrived on time and with proper tools. The Merlin cover seems well-constructed and the installation team did a clean and neat job of drilling the hole for the inserts (that was my biggest worry - drilling on our 20+ year-old deck). They were finished in two hours after which they explained how to remove the cover and pack it up for best storage. It is warrantied for 15 years, came with a storage bag and appropriate tools for taking the cover on and off. We also now have a well-done drawing of our pool and cover so that if anything happens to the cover, we can have another made and all the pins will fit the existing holes. It was a good start and we wanted to be sure that others considering them, give them a chance. We had a very positive experience with Ellis and would be happy to recommend them. read more

the above review is more than accurate, this company has the WORST service ever, it doesn't even deserve 1 star. they do not return calls, they take weeks to arrive for a simple repair, if you are considering a coverstar pool cover look for a different manufacturer because Ellis is the only game in town for repairs and they are TERRIBLE... read more
