This place is more than AMAZING! Our first time visiting Tulsa and we stumbled upon this gem! The place is very nostalgic, a beautiful old piano stood against a wall and I assume most of the decor has not changed in ages. Nice jazz was playing in the background and when we explained to our very sweet server this was our first time having BBQ in Tulsa, she was more than happy to go over the menu and make recommendations. We had a large meat platter for 2, which included to die for ribs, chopped beef, a nice smoky sausage and of course their famous bologna. We also had homemade potato salad and baked beans. The meat was spectacular, and we had 3 delicious sauces to chose from at our table; sweet, original or spicy, all were soooooo good! I loved the potato salad, it was indeed homemade and i wanted to lick the bowl. My boyfriend loved the baked beans, said he'd never had any so good! Oh, and they have a pickle bar :) If you are in Tulsa, you most try Elmer's, I promise it will be an incredible experience for your taste buds. Wow. Where do I even start? I will keep this very short because not much can be said. This is the worst BBQ I've ever tasted in my life. It's beyond appalling. The ribs, chicken, pork, and sliced beef are cooked with a complete lack of passion.. There is ZERO flavor. The sauce is disgusting. They put cinnamon, yes CINNAMON, in their "sauce". This shit is disgusting. And that's an understatement. If you think this "BBQ" is good, you have no idea what good BBQ is. I wouldn't feed this shit to my dog. read more

Is bad alright! Bad in the very best sense of the phrase. The ribs are super tender and meaty, and juicy. The rub is tasty, the sauce you don't need, but is fine. The only reason I don't give Elmer's 5 stars is because I like a bit of smokey flavor, which these ribs are short on. Also had pulled pork, 3 stars. The green beans were very down-home and tasty. Don't ever go here if you're hungry. There's a pretty good chance you won't receive a meal - even for money - if my experience is any indication. Since I've been back in town (about a year and a half now), I've tried to eat at Elmer's twice. The first time, I was met with a handmade sign that informed me that the restaurant was closed for "Spring Break". Good God, restaurants close for spring break now? What the deuce!?! The second time was just as unsatisfying, though I actually made it inside. Though the restaurant was somewhat busy at 6:30 at night, it was not nearly busy enough to warrant the creased brows and harried looks on the faces of what I could only assume was the staff. I stood by the register for an eternity, looking like a damned idiot, waiting for my hunger to be addressed in a definitive manner. After ten minutes, I left and had an unsatisfactory roast beef at the Arby's across the street. Hey, no hard feelings! I'm sure there must be a reasonable explanation for this. I'm sorry, though, I gave it my best try. I won't be back. In closing, I'm giving Elmer's two stars because I ate there once about ten year's ago and remember it being pretty okay. read more

The only way Tulsa can do BBQ right is to learn from someone who really knows how to cook BBQ in TX or Atlanta then move back here. The sauces were too much on the sweet side. There was no vinegar sauce at all. Chopped pork is chopped pork. It was kind of bland until I put some sauce on it. I'll keep looking around. read more

i ordered the "bad-wich." which 4 meats: ribs, bologna, sausage or hot links & chopped beef, with your choice of texas toast or buns, along with 2 sides. thing is, they forgot my texas toast but I wasn't trippin' b/c it seemed better w/o it. the ribs had a nice burnt crust, the sausage, bologna & beef had a nice, smokey taste. for my sauce, I got the mixed bbq sauce, which is a mix of hot & sweet, you can't go wrong w/ that. my 2 sides: green beans (which bits of meat in it) & baked beans. both were good. the service was on point, the food didn't take long for me to get. Wow, not sure if I can top the review below. But I really, really enjoy this place. I like the different sauces they have, 4 flavors I think, and the signature sauce is pretty cinamonny, pretty thin, and good. What was good here? I thought the ribs were awesome. I know BBQ places sometimes a bad batch can come out, but the ribs were awesome--it had a very good crust to it and was super tender. Would have liked a bit more of a smoked flavor, but too much smoke to me is never good. The sausage I thought was very tasty as well. I'm not a sausage buff so I wont comment as far as it was very good. The baked beans were good and the potato salad was great! Not your average potato salad, almost a more of potato salad ingredients in a mashed potato texture. Super good though! The chopped brisket was decent, I have had better. Didn't have much of a smoke taste and not too flavorful. The coleslaw was meh. Didn't have much of a taste to it. That's why it's a 4 star place, not everything was great, but VERY, VERY solid overall. Will continue coming here when I pass through the city. read more

Your choice of three sides: I had Cole slaw, Baked beans and potato salad. Add some hot sauce and I had a meal for my Mom and Dad, wife, Brother and Sister in Law while we were watching OU play football. Call ahead it takes 15-20 to put the package together for you. As a Texan BBQ fanatic, I tried many different BBQ places around Tulsa once I moved here--mostly at friends' recommendations and assurances that the next one was "great". After several months of disappointments, I was convinced that Tulsa didn't have good BBQ. This wasn't from an elitist point of view, but just a sad statement of what I thought was fact. Then one day someone decided to cater a meeting at the office from Elmer's. "What is THIS!?" I said. I had discovered great BBQ right here in Tulsa. I thought this place was okay. The spare ribs were a little dry and the chicken lacked flavor. I got a side of green beans and they were pretty good. The coleslaw was average. We are in Tulsa for the weekend up from South Texas and I wanted to see what the BBQ was like here. Found this place on Yelp and I think I died and went to heaven. Got the "Badwich". It had 4 different meats on it. They were smoked to perfection!!! They don't put sauce on their meat, it's in a bottle on the table so you can add as much as you want. Super tasty! One of the meats was smoked bologna and it was thick sliced and smoky. Yum! And I don't normally like bologna. The ambience was awesome with BB King music and decorations and the service was fast and friendly. The only downside to this place was that it was soooo good I couldn't stop eating! I've been here a few times and the chopped beef brisket sandwich was pretty good but I didn't care for anything else. The restaurant is small and was never busy when I came in, so I got my food pretty quickly. The only thing that bothered me was the guy that waited my table. This was three years ago so he's probably gone now, but his name was Jules, and he made a comment that I was the only white person there and because of that, I was drawing attention to myself. He hit on me the entire time and the way he looked at me too was so creepy. I haven't been back since. read more

Just perfect! We heard Tulsa has good BBQ and I am so happy this is the place we chose! We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the beef sandwich with the Texas toast and coleslaw and potato salad. The pork was perfectly, NATURALLY smoked just right and was moist and tender! Husband said the beef was excellent too. I was too busy shoveling the pork into my face to remember to ask for a bite of the beef! The coleslaw and potato salad were also absolutely perfect! The coleslaw had the perfect hint of sweetness and the potato salad had an amazing creamy texture and a bit of tang.... so we finished our meal, measured how long the rest of our travel was going to be for the day, and ordered AGAIN!!! We stuffed ourselves!!! Do yourself a favor and eat here!!!! The service was friendly, helpful and fantastic! The boss man took time to come make sure we were happy, which of course we were! I had the multiple meat plate with sausage , ribs , bologna and chopped brisket ! Super yummy and plentiful portions for the price . Came with green beans that been smoked with chunks of meat and beans also with large chunks of meat. Keith was super friendly and helped me checked out. We stopped in tonight and got some ribs takeout. We only tried the sweet sauce. (forgot to get the hot) but it was very good. Ribs were prepared just the way we like them- not falling off the bone, cooked/smoked just right with great flavor. We are huge ribs snobs so this is a big compliment. Beans were ok, potato salad had very good flavor but I prefer a more traditional consistency (these were more like mashed potatoes). We'll be back if we're ever in Tulsa again. :) read more

People typically either LOVE Elmer's or HATE it. I fall somewhere in the middle. For my money their "mixed" sauce is the best sauce around (which is something like heresy for me since I grew up in Ponca with Head Country). They have 3 sauces they offer - sweet, spicy, and mixed - I would say go with the mixed. It's got a cinnamon flavor to it (or at least that's what it tastes like to me). I've eaten here a few times and I would say do not, under any circumstances, order the ribs or the brisket. Each time I've visited it's been way overdone. The sausage, hot links, and bologna here are very, very good. My recommendation would be to order a 2-meat sandwich and get hot links and bologna with mixed sauce. You will not be disappointed if you stick to that routine. I think they may use miracle whip in their potato salad, it was a little sweeter than I typically prefer, but most of the sides are pretty solid, if unspectacular. read more
