The facility itself was nice, and the staff nice. The food wasn't anything special, but it definitely wasn't bad. The drinks we got were nice, though I tried ordering two other drinks off of their own menu first, only to be told that they didn't have them. There were nice TVs, on which we watched the Tigers game, and on a Wednesday night, it was very quiet. Maybe only one other group there. It's worth checking out. read more

Elmhurst is a little tap room that has been around since I can remember. The lighting is dark but I like its small intimate feel. Previous posts are right about the signal in here but that's how it should be anyway! I went the last two Thursday's because they feature a pound of crab legs for about 22 dollars. Last Thursday I went with 2 other people and we ordered two orders to share. The presentation is great especially with the melted butter. Although their side salads are ridiculously small, their ranch dressing is great! We also ordered curly fries and regular fries. The regular ones tasted old almost like they've been sitting there for over an hour but the curly ones were fresh and crispy. My sister for the French onion which she swears is absolutely amazing. I'm not really a beer drinker but they have a large draft selection. Over 15!! On to the service, which to me is just as important as the food. Service is okay. Our waitress was semi attentive but once it came towards the end of our meals she kind of forgot about us. Took a while to check if we wanted refills and when it came to the bill I had to get up and ask for it because she just wasn't coming back to our table. You would think she would have been more attentive considering it's such a small place. However, the crab legs were good enough to bring me back. So last Thursday I came again and they ran out of crab legs! Huge bummer! So I got the fish and chips which were honestly horrible! The batter was awful and was too soggy in the inside. My whole plate was full of grease so I just ate around the batter to get to the fish. The fries were fresh this time so I guess they could be a hit or miss. We ended up having the same server which lacked again with checking on us. We waited almost 10 minutes for our bill. I watched as she was goofing around with another table. As a server, It was just kind of frustrating especially since we were ready to go. They also should wipe down their drink menus that stay on the table. My recommendation is to come on Thursdays for the crab legs! Regardless of the bad fish I had, I would come again to try other items. I frequent the gas station next door and without fail around dinner time you can smell the delicious aromas coming from this joint. For years I've been saying one day I'm going there. Finally had a chance to stop in for lunch this past week. Unfortunately, we had dinner plans and didn't want to ruin our appetite so we shared an app and each had a steaming hot cup of their french onion soup. Wow. This was hands down the best cup of french onion I've ever had. The bartender/waitress was great answering all of our questions and was very attentive. My only complaint would be with the lighting. It's not so bad once you sit down and your eyes adjust, but coming in and out on a bright sunny day is a killer on the eyes. Either way, I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. read more

Well the good thing is this place is within stumbling distance of my house. As far as a the people go it is definitely an older crowd . I usually go to eat. They have some really good sandwiches. The prime rib is decent but filling. The pizza is probably the highlight of the menu as it is very good. The shrimp is also very good, the ribs not so much. When I moved into the area, I asked my new neighbor for a good place to get a beer and burger after spending a day dragging furniture into my new home. He recommended this place. I figured "Imagine my luck, moving into a neighborhood with a Tap Room nearby. I can't wait to sample the many draft selections they most certainly have available." I find the place (after cruising the block a couple times to get a parking spot) and open the door. Nice, old-school dimly lit bar, perfect for a grungy guy who needs a few cold ones. I find a booth open by the bar and await my server to sample the libations. And I await my server to sample the libations. (lather, rinse repeat for about 15 minutes) At last, a nice waitress comes up and offers me a menu. A quick look at the menu shows no Draft Beer List, so I ask if she has a list, rather than ask her to recite the anticipated multitudes of draft specialties that a place that calls itself a Tap Room must offer. "Swill National Brand, Swill Nation Brand Light, Swillier National Brand, Swillier National Lite, Bass (OK now where getting to the good stuff), Blue Moon and Goose Island." Hmm, a few keepers, but not what I was expecting. I order a Goose and decide on their "white" pizza special. The beer is cold, I'm cooling down from moving, and soon the beer is empty. Lather, rinse repeat. Waitress comes by with my pizza and sets it down, and leaves, apparently not noticing the empty glass. Now, I did not exactly chug this beer, and the time it took to make and bake the pie was about 20 minutes. I catch her attention and order another beer before digging into the pie. Not bad, interesting use of cheeses for the white effect and a good chewy crust. I take about half of the pie home to savor later, pay my bill and leave. I decide, well, maybe it's just because the place was busy, I'll reserve judgement after another visit in a week or so. I drop in again about 9 days later and get much better service, and order some more Goose and decide on the Elmhurst Burger. When it comes in a few minutes, it's nicely done, thick and juicy with no complaints. Service is better as the place is about 2/3 full (it probably holds 80 people if it's packed) and I say that this place will go into the rotation. I have been a few more times and only give the place a 3 instead of 4 because if it's full it can take a awhile to get served and parking can be a pain (It's on the same block of Outer Drive as V. Worth the effort, but don't expect 40 micro-brews on-tap or an extensive list of rare brews by the bottle. One of the worst dining experience we have had in some time. The only good thing was the flashback of the decor. Hasn't changed in years. Great colors and stained glass. Nice booths. Waitress was very pleasant and nice hence the two stars. If we were just rating the food it would have been a one star. The bar was pretty dead yet it still took way too long to get our food. The french onion soup tasted like watered down swamp water. Almost no taste or broth but what you could taste was very bitter. The stuffed mushroom app had a very off putting sauce smothered all over it. I am pretty sure it was just watered down hidden valley ranch. The mushrooms were mini, flat mushrooms, not caps, that weren't actually stuffed, they simply had crab meat and whole strips of bacon on top. Tried the flaming shrimp and cheese which was just saganaki with a couple of very fishy shrimp pushed into the cheese before it was lit at the table. The orange liquor that was used to ignite was not grand marnier or any similar orange flavored liquor, very strong and took over the taste of the cheese. Worst was the deep fried mushrooms. First try they were frozen on the inside, waitress was very kind and offered to have them dropped a bit longer, then they came out too burnt to eat. The oil used was way too hot. The outside was the perfect color and doneness when they first came out but dropping them back in for a minute of two longer finally cooked the inside but left the outside hard and charred. Definitely an old school bar with lots of character. The waitresses/bartenders all have the tough girl demeanor but they know how to pour a real drink and take a correct food order. The Ford workers are total fans. Probably, one of the last bars of its kind in Michigan. Small and dark inside in a cool 1975 way. Great place to get a beer if heading to Henry Ford Museum or Greenfield village. This place has the best french onion soup in Michigan and I'm not lying. Also, the bar offers mussel pots on weekends. The pizza is pretty good too. I take my mother here and she loves it. Highly recommend - it's a fun, unique place. read more

Terrible Service !! Me and my husband went in and sat at the bar. We were there for at least 5 minutes. Not one of the 4 bartenders/waitresses even glanced in our direction, let alone take our order. One of the waitress stood right next to us (behind the bar) and chatted up another customer but did not offer us a menu or to clean the bar area where we sat (empty beer glass and sticky bar). I love love love this place! Everything I've ever eaten here was great, their French Onion soup is one of my favorites as is their reuben & their pizza. They have different specials every night & I believe they do customer appreciation pizza on Tuesdays & it's always packed. Their prices are so reasonable & I love the fact that it's dark...it's actually a good place for a first date as the booths are each sort of closed off. They serve alcohol, they have great food, they have great prices...all in all this place is just plain great. The only downfall is that because they are so small you often have to wait for a table (it's worth it) though in the past I've actually asked & shared the only group table with the group of people who were already sitting there. read more

It's basic bar food but the service is the worst ever. My food arrived cold, the bread looked like a dog had cheewed on it, and when I sent it back the waitress got really upset with me. She had a terrible attitude and such a nasty look on her face. Slammed things around for the rest of our meal. Very nasty. She should be fired. Probably one of the most unique bars in the Dearborn area, this place is like stepping back in time. You have to have a bit of a thick skin when it comes to the wait staff, but they're typically swamped since it seems the place is always understaffed. This place has some of the best Pizza in the area, and offers a half-price pizza day (dine in only) which draws in a number of people from the area. The prices seem a bit steep, but for what you get, it's appropriate. And definitely worth it in the quality. Word of caution: On a sunny day, put on sunglasses before you walk outside. read more

Apparently you have to be a regular to get any service or be addressed here. Came in on a Friday night right before heading to Halloween Nights at Greenfield Village. All the tables were filled but not overly packed. Walked in and no one addressed us. Kind of awkward, not sure where to stand set up. Got bumped a few times then we're told we have to give our name to the bartender. We did. Standing again, awkwardly right by filled tables, only to get dirty looks by the waitresses because we were in the way....ok, that was enough and we left while the old regular Cheers crowd drank away and chatted it up with the non-existent bartender with no personality. I'm sorry but if someone walks in my restaurant/bar and all tables are filled and there's no where to stand without staring at people eat, you address them, say hi, sorry for the wait etc. Your food is not that good Elmhurst and someday those regulars won't be around so they get a big fat read more

A friend called and invited me out to dinner and took me to the Tap Room. I've seen it out of the corner of my eye when I go TO THE ORIGINAL GONELLAS next door but never paid that much attention. The outside doesn't tell you how nice and cozy the inside is. We sat at the bar while we waited for our table and the bartender(dress?) was cooking 2 order of mussels (right on the edge of the bar) and one order of scallop stew. We were there for a burger and a beer. I now have to say that if I can't make it to Sidetracks in Ypsi, I can go to Elmhurst for a fix. Better than Biergartens. Their fries are those perfectly cooked ones and are really good. Altogether, it cost me $10.50 - but I think they forgot to charge for the beer. Makes it an even better place to go. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in on a Monday for lunch. This place is on the small side and a quite dark. Red carpet, red booths, red back drop lighting. Hope you don't mind red. We ordered off the lunch special menu. I got fish and chips (seasoned), (9.99) he go the chicken sub with skinny fries. (6.99) We both really enjoyed our dishes. No complaints there, except for being off the lunch menu, they were a bit pricey. Our waitress was very nice and never too far away and on top of our drink refills. Maybe 5 other patrons in the entire place while we dined. All in all a good experience and will not hesitate to go back. O and parking may be a problem, especially at dinner time.
