I would love to leave a positive review but I cannot. I would love to support a local business, but this was probably my last visit here. I was close by so stopped in to look for some summer things for the garden. Many plants are not cared for --there's dead leaves, roses that need pruning, dead blooms covering plants. Plants and flowers (for the most part) are not being maintained. And like other reviewers mentioned I'm sorry but the customer service is awful. I've been here about four times. Never once has anybody smiled or said hello or looked anything other than pissed off when they ring me up, if I ask a question they turn their head and answer to some other corner of the room. On top of it, their prices do seem excessively high. read more

The most organized nursery I've ever been to! Elwood Nursery has the most beautiful and healthy plants compared to any other nursery I've been to. From bright colored flowers to green house plants, Elwood has a very wide variety of bright, beautiful, unique, and even polka dotted house plants! I still have my Pothos plants from years ago and they are still thriving perfectly, all thanks to the directions they gave me. The service is always amazing too, very sweet people. Avoid this store unless you must shop there. Read the 1 star reviews, they're accurate. I'm all for supporting local small business but the owners (working the cash register) are really rude. I went there a few weeks ago to buy a few accessories, and would've gladly spent much more than planned but the owners' rudeness (older man & woman) made me walk out without buying anything. The younger staff working the store are very nice and helpful, but they get squashed by the owners. Sorry. I don't know how they stay in business. read more

I've been a customer here for many years. Elwood has a great selection of plants & the best service anywhere. They know everything about everything botanical. Upon entering the nursery you'll be greeted by a couple of friendly dogs, always a delight. If you buy potted plants, they will be placed in cartons & loaded into your car for you. Elwood also carries a nice variety of seeds, bulbs, and gardening supplies & equipment. Parking is never an issue - they have a private lot & you can also park free on the street in front. Never crowded. Today I bought bearded iris, poppies & ranunculus, all in gorgeous colors. "Spring has sprung The grass is ris I wonder where the flowers is" In my back yard, that's where. We went for a Sunday drive and ended up at the Elwood Nursery. They had a solid selection of standard local zone 9 plants, indoor plants (including Chartreuse colored Pothos that we've been wanting) and some more rare finds mixed in like this vibrant cactus. We were also able to pick up cactus food, and I saw that they have organic botanical soaps in case we ever need it in the future for another whitefly battle). The atmosphere is really peaceful and that matters to me. It was a pleasure to walk through the aisles and see the variety of colors. It wasn't crowded (2pm on a Sunday) and we had a beautiful time visiting. read more

I've been a patron here for almost 2 years . The owners here are the best! Frankie and Curtis have been such gracious store owners. They always been so helpful when trying to pick out plants. Came to pick up a plant and a nice pot as a gift. The best part are the shop dogs which are adorable. The entire nursery is nice and covered with an indoor component. There is a pretty good selection of various pots and they will help you pot it if you pay for the soil. This nursery has been there since I was a kid. Glad to see it still in business. read more

My husband came to get flowers for our home. We wanted to support small businesses in this uncertain time. To be safe I didn't go in with him because we have a 2 week old as well.. When we came home, the flowers were in horrible condition.. Two were not watered at all, had crispy leaves and bone dry soil. One was so over watered moss was growing around it and the flowers fell right off. Because I have a green thumb I thought I could save the poor beauties. However the last plant was so infested with aphids I decided to part with everything. I didn't want to risk infecting my other plants. I am beyond disappointed! I couldn't help but cry. I can't believe they would treat their plants this way. I will never ever be buying plants from this nursery again. read more

Came in the last 5 minutes before closing and did a quick sweep around the nursery. The owners are very friendly, I wish I had more time to look but thats completely our fault for not checking the hours! Managed to pick up these BEAUTIFUL babies for less than $40. I was impressed by how much their plants were thriving--they have a greenhouse thats regulated for tropical plants and then some plants that are all around the shop. I was tempted to pick up another burgendy rubber plant because it was such a gorgeous deep purple with red vines but I had to save my wallet this time! Definitely worth a look. Giving this a 4 only because I only had 5 minutes to look through everything but given more time im sure I could give a 5!! read more

So...I love going here - not just because I love plants, but I love the outdoor environment and unique plant options. BUT ...the lady that works here ... is MEAN AND RUDE!!! I bought almost $80 in multiple plants and pots, etc. and all she gave me was a snide response and obnoxiously offensive response to any question I asked her. This was not the first time. Each time I went I hoped maybe she was just "having a bad day"? (I'd call her a rude name if I could, but I don't know why I would have to.) At what point is it allowed to treat customers looking down from her chin and down her nose. Rude - mean - unfriendly. and yes...two of my plants are dead now. Not the biggest deal...I guess. I will take the blame if that was me. But feeling stupid at the counter, as I give her my money. Well, that I blame myself for. I'd say I'm never going back but its really the only and best outdoor nursery we have in our area. I will just NEVER BUY ANYTHING MORE EVER AGAIN from this place. read more

Ugh, the female owner's attitude really brings this place down, much as I love to support local businesses. I've been a professional landscape designer for 21 years, have bought thousands of dollars worth of plants here over the past 6 years. Thought my info must be on file, but the smug owner said there's no file, it's just in her head. Great if you can remember faces when we're all masked, otherwise not so great! Anyway, for a small industry-standard discount on their fairly high prices, she wouldn't take my business card. Insisted on a credit card with my name and a business name on it, which I had. But, because it said "design" and not specifically "landscape design" in the business name, she didn't consider it valid. Jesus, lady! Even the sweet, helpful cashier had to suppress an eyeroll at the owner's senseless hostility. Feeling caught in an SNL skit, I said "OK," politely paid full price, thanked the nice cashier, and left. Not sure why the owner has such an attitude, especially to working landscape professionals---though it seems to be mainly deployed on women who appear younger than her, if you read reviews---but I'll happily go right back to working with the many South Bay wholesale nurseries who have great prices, and good plant stocks, and who don't treat hardworking landscape professionals like actual dirt. read more

I only come here for the shop dogs! They're so cute!! Otherwise, the plants are over priced and not well cared for, the selection is minimal, the shop is a mess, the people working are not helpful and not too friendly it's just all around not great. I bought a small herb plant from them and I think it was over watered cuz the top of the soil was growing some kind of weird moss situation idk. Also I went there for a specific plant to buy, found it and while I was checking out they said no, it's not for sale. Lol okay then, just tryna support a small business and there were no signs or anything that said these were not for sale. I will make the extra drive to go to the Peter's Nursery in Redondo now. They take pride in their craft and the result is that their plants last much longer than anything you would buy at Home Depot. Their prices are reasonable, and they even offer home delivery. First time coming here, won't be back a second time. Came in to the nursery and wasn't even greeted, not a simple smile or hello. It was I believe the owner and 3 older people in the store. I had questions but it seemed she didn't have the time to answer them. I asked for a specific plant and she just ushered me to the greenhouse to look for it on my own. I saw she was very friendly to the other older customers, so it's probably because I'm not a regular or 50+. Even when they left and it was just me she didn't ask if I needed help or anything. I felt very unwanted in the store and I left with a bad experience. Seems like they don't take to younger people. Would recommend going to a different nursery! read more

This is a great nursery if you want high quality product and knowledgeable staff. I travel from North Torrance to shop here. You could go to Big Box stores for stuff, but half the time we end up returning their plants. Everything we have bought from Elwood's has thrived, not just survived like the stuff from the big box stores. It is kind of like going to Bristol Farms or Whole Foods... you get what you pay for, and I have yet to be disappointed here. Every time I go up, the folks know the customers by name. So there is a lot of repeat business which means they are doing something right. Also, say "Hi" to Yuki, the resident Akita. She's very friendly and calm... though she may let out a howl if she wants your attention. =o) She is good with kids and my puppy loves to visit her as well. read more

I too, like other customers, don't understand the attitude of the owner and employees. They have great knowledge but are too angry to help. I don't know if they are trying to run their business into the ground, but no one is ever in there. I think, like me, customers don't feel like being treated like dirt. I dread having to go in there for anything, because Frankie the owner is horribly rude. However, you'll get the answer and items you need. But, you will leave feeling like you've done something to offend her. It's a shame because the prices aren't bad. I really do hope the owner starts to see that kindness goes a long way in our small community. read more
