I specifically had called this location to ask if they had any broccoli plants. Whoever answered the phone, a male employee, told they have a large inventory of them and we have them available in stock. So, I drive all the way here only to find out that they are out because it is out of season. They say it's too late in the season. I informed them I called ahead to avoid this very situation. Went to replace a plant that has a "lifetime guarantee" to find out they will only replace it one time. Yes, unfortunately the first plant that died was because we had a record heat wave and I probably was not watering it enough. The replacement I received I doubt was even alive because the root stock was already sprouting and the grafted branch was dry and brittle. I usually have a very good experience here, have spent $$$, and have even told many people to go to this Armstrong. I'm sad to see they don't honor what they advertise. I might as well just buy from the other gardening centers that cost less. And as one other poster mentioned, I also got an "Oh my god!", when they saw my root ball and dead stick. Maybe they shame you into not making returns and even worse deny you all together. read more

What a great garden center! Staff was great, too. Every corner we turned, a staff member asked if we needed any assistance. Very helpful and knowing someone there to help with any questions we had. This place is huge, every turn ended up in a whole new section and area throughout the nursery. They have a great selection of succulents for a great price. You can also find a good amount of house plants, roses, and other plants/flowers. They have a selection of home goods, too. You can find cute garden decor and lights to hang out in your backyard. Situated just beside the small Torrance airport sits Armstrong Garden Centers. It's much larger than the one I grew up next to and offers a broad selection of houseplants, garden staples, potting solutions, pesticides, and more. Every plant looks healthy and you can tell the many staff here do an excellent job of keeping the place clean. I came to this location looking for miniature African violets since my local Armstrong didn't carry them, and walked home with four little pots (all different colors)! Every gardener here is so friendly and greets you in passing. There's also a large home and outdoor decor section where you can try the patio seating or find a seasonal gift for the plant lover in your life. 10/10 will be coming back more often! read more

Theses guys are commercial but on the edges you can find some stuff that puts HD and Lowe's to shame. Easy parking. Always seem to have adequate and helpful staff. I've been looking for Marathon grass products for months. Most places I called told me that had grass "close to Marathon 1". But Armstrong not only had the grass, their salesperson spent a lot of time with me going over the bests way to seed my yard to get the best results. I really appreciate this. I've always driven by this garden center but never went in until recently. It is surprising how much they have! I would even go as far and say this place is probably every gardener's go-to spot for plants. It seems like they have everything you'd ever want. I specifically went in for an avocado tree. If you know a thing or two about avocados, then you'd know there are A LOT of varieties. This is one of the best Garden centers I visited. Let's start with the set up, I love how there is a section full of indoor plants. I love the wall with hundreds of options for planting your own seeds. I love the pantry area with a variety of jams, spreads, olives and so much more. There is also an area with patio decor such as cloth chairs etc. I'm going back soon just to get more pictures. Such a serene garden centers. Armstrongs's is Terrific!! All the employees are helpful and very knowledgeable.! Today before we left for Armstrong's I called to see if they had a specific plant that I wanted. I checked the website and the results showed it not available. So, I called and Gretta answered and I asked her if they had this particular flower. She didn't know but she checked with the staff in the garden center and they said it was there. Then I asked how many there were and she checked the inventory but wasn't quite sure if that was correct, so she checked with the staff outside once again and they told her the amount which was twice what we needed. So, we hopped in the car and travelled to the store, probably about a 10 minute journey. Since it was Saturday it was VERY busy and I felt bad that I hadn't just gone there. I also needed something else to take care of some mold on some other plants. I met Gretta at the cash register and she called outside to find someone to come in to help us find the product we needed. To make a too LONG story short, we got everything we needed and she even asked us if we knew about the Senior discount that Armstong's offered! She was terrific!! Despite the busyness of the Center, she was able to find ways to assist us without disturbing the flow of other customers!! She is TERRIFIC! Thank you, Armstrong's for hiring and training, kind and customer service employees who seem to really enjoy their jobs!! You are the BEST! PS I hope I spelled her name correctly! I usually head to DTLA for plants, but when i'm not feeling the hours worth of traffic and want to stay local, I come here. I have around 6 houseplants from Armstrong and all came healthy and are still alive a year later. Can be a little pricey, but plants are always in great shape upon purchase (unlike home depot or lowe's), and staff is INCREDIBLY friendly and knowledgeable. Also: I have bought ceramic decorative pots for as little as $3, the sales for pots are amazing, just takes a little bit of searching through the shelves ;) read more

Everything look beautiful till I saw they had aphids on there 4"plants ?At first wasn't going to buy them ask the worker if they could spray them with neem oil but he decide to use soap instead ? I've been a loyal customer of this nursery for many years. Sometimes, I visit just to walk around and admire the seasonal plants, and more often than not, I end up making a purchase. Over the years, I've bought numerous trees, shrubs, flowers, and other plants--always appreciating their lifetime guarantee on trees and shrubs. Today, I needed to exchange two silver sheen shrubs that didn't survive from a row of 12 I had purchased about a year ago. Given their guarantee, I expected a smooth process. However, when I approached the register, Robert Clark, a second assistant manager, assisted me with an unnecessary amount of attitude and rudeness. He went as far as saying, "You should probably get something else, because we won't keep doing this." This was my first time making an exchange, so his comment was both uncalled for and frustrating. I explained that I wasn't interested in selecting a different plant because I had an entire row of these shrubs, yet his dismissive and condescending tone made the experience unnecessarily unpleasant. What's most surprising is that someone in a management position would handle a routine exchange with such hostility. It almost felt like the loss was coming directly out of his pocket. Given the typical markup on nursery plants, I can't imagine why honoring their own policy would be an issue. Ironically, despite the terrible customer service, I still ended up purchasing yet another tree during this visit--an eye-roll moment considering the situation that had just unfolded. Overall, I'm disappointed. The staff in the outdoor area are usually friendly and helpful, which makes this experience stand out even more negatively. This encounter has made me question whether I want to continue supporting this business. Customer service--especially from management--should reflect the values of the company, and unfortunately, Robert Clark failed to do so. read more

I did try to get some lemons, but apparently I'm in the quarantine zone so I can't get them from there which makes no sense cause if I travel to Long Beach, they can sell them to me. read more

A better name would be Armstrong Weed Centers. We spent over $25,000 to Armstrong and their subcontractor (Finley's) to have a new, minimal-maintenance lawn. The plan was to completely take out the entire existing grass lawn and replace it with a mix of drought-tolerant plants, bark mulch, and a complete irrigation drip-line system. I guess we failed to specify that weeding counts as maintenance, because now after less than 3 months the lawn now proudly flourishes with more weeds than the old grass lawn ever did. We tried weed killer, but it didn't even make a dent. After I complained, the consultant sent a list of recommendations for weed control. One of their top suggestions was to install a weed barrier sheet before planting. Too bad she didn't bother to include that in the plan. I guess they thought we'd balk at an extra few hundred dollars, after spending $25K. Color me disgusted by Armstrong (and Finley's). read more

He asked very helpful questions and even made suggestions and took a look at the soil I had used to try and get me a concrete answer. I love this Armstrong center it has huge selections and just like its plants this location has outstanding employees. Armstrongs is number one for me when it comes to succulents if I'm not ordering from a pricey online website. I've spent years collecting succulents and Armstrongs is the best place for them! Recently the weather has been very gloomy with not a lot of sun and one of my succulents from here had a small amount of root rot starting from the bottom of the succulent pot and today Robert the Manager and Diana a customer service representative went above and beyond to help me, and they said they don't normally do this, however they refunded my money to a gift card and I will be coming back for more succulents to add to my growing collection. I've also placed orders for succulents here before, where they were able to look up a certain succulent online from a grower and order it to their store! So wonderful! If you're a plant person you know this is helpful considering shipping fees for succulent are pricey! Diana also helped me look at some rocks samples on the shelves and then showed me some pretty wonderful samples from their inventory! That was very impressive for me because I'm used to finding them on Amazon and to be able to come somewhere locally is really convenient for me. Will be back soon! Never fails, when I need something special for a specific area of my garden I can always count on Armstrong's. Seriously, if you need a rainbow bloom, low water, full sun, unicorn attracting perennial you can find it here at Armstrong's. I might be exaggerating a bit but this is true: when I started my pond, Armstrong's answered all my questions. When I wanted to learn about citrus trees, Armstrong's came through for me. I've enjoyed my sunroom filled with orchids for over 15 years now and Armstrong's was where I began my obsession. Grasses, planters, annuals, perennials, shrubs and some of the most beautiful sounding wind chimes I've ever heard (I still have the one I purchased 20 or so years ago and it's as tranquil as the day I bought it!) The new convenient curbside pick-up is in a word...awesome. I needed plants, my guy is on crutches so walking around and casually perusing isn't easy for him so this time I tried the curbside service and bingo! If you know what you want/need, the curbside service is the way to go. Of course it isn't as fun as meandering the aisles and gazing at all the possibilities, but in a pinch it's a swell option. Helpful, friendly and if I could, I'd bring a lawn chair or a picnic and just sit and enjoy all the beautiful things for the garden and learn something new everyday. read more

After purchasing a $250.00 gift card in order to qualify for a landscape consultation I could never get a call back from Susan who was the only person that could provide the service at the Torrance store. I needed my project completed prior to the holidays which I told several people at the Torrance store including on Susan's message machine. Luckily I called the Long Beach Armstrong store and received quick, friendly and expert help from the employees there. I would recommend you bypassi the Torrance store if you need personal assistance. Susan called back the Monday before Thanksgiving and left a message. The tomato plant that we bought there died within a week. Home Depot would have refunded or replaced with no questions asked. Not Armstrong, the rude Assistant Manager said that we could not have a replacement. Also, I had been given a gift card as a store credit for a lemon bush that died a few years ago. Now that we wanted to use the gift card, they can't find it in their database. Even after complaining to the customer service on their site, we only were ignored. Everything was helpfully set out with my lands grouped together by how they would last in your house - low light, medium light etc. the prices were reasonable. Despite living two miles away today was our first time visiting this store. The service was second to none. Looking for two plants in their outdoor area and one of their associates walked up to help. He has very knowledgeable and helpful. I was going to get a cart and he stopped me to get it for me. The line to check out was not long but they called over the speaker to open more registers. When we checked out we added five bags of soil which they bring to your car. It's about a 20 second walk to the car and they beat us to the car with the soil and loaded the car. Love this store. But update!!!! Be super cautious if you are trying to buy organic native milkweed. One new type of milkweed plant from a nursery who supplies armstrong (based out of Monrovia area) killed all our baby monarch caterpillars. So make sure you buy california native milkweed and double check not sprayed for aphids. If you don't see little yellow bugs then likely plant treated and caterpillars at risk of poisoning. Outside of that The store is such a pleasant experience with a lot of space and sections of different types /species of plants, trees, etc. Very KIND staff. To Staff: Please brush up on what your truly organic milkweed is and over order as monarch season will have people Buying you out!
