Helzberg works with Commenity Bank as a 3rd party lender. I understood the financing option to be one-year interest-free, and then interest would accrue thereafter. This is the case with any finance option that I have been aware of in the past when they advertise for "one-year" interest-free. My wife and I took the total due and broke it up over the next 12 months, leaving just $56 to pay at the end. We were absolutely stunned when we were charged $1200 in interest after we had paid off $4500. When we called both Commenity and Helzberg, we were told that we should have read the "fine print on page 2." Huh? I understand that fine print can make you liable, but that is poor business, let alone deceitful. Paying $1200 on $56 of payment left is frustrating to say the least. The bank has received its money. It is not that we have not paid off the ring in large part. In trying to speak with anyone to help, we are often ignored or told that it's just the way things are. Helzberg simply defaults to saying that they can't do anything about the Commenity financial side, and are not able to assist with the charges. I beg to differ. Helzberg, you do not have to do business with a bank that is duplicitous. In partnering with the bank and doing nothing to change the present, let alone the future experience of your customers, you are complicit in the scheme. I have purchased two other rings for our daughters, along with recommending Helzberg to our niece, who purchased her ring from there as well . . . before we received news of this absurd interest charge. Obviously, we will not be returning to Helzberg ever. I am not one to rant. I am simply hoping that people will read this post and not fall for this scheme. It is wrong and unethical. It is poor business, and I believe in the end, Helzberg will have lost out on much more than $1200. They will have lost out on partnerships with families for several generations.
