When we came last January for a trial day I knew that we would have substantial challenges moving into a classroom setting. Our son was diagnosed at an early age and does have severe symptoms, as well as being non verbal. But after spending the last four years with various agencies in the DTT model at home, we were ready for a change. After our intake assessment, it was clear that our son wasn't ready for a classroom setting. So instead they made the offer for us to access the clinic for ABA and push into the Academy over time. He's really blossomed in this model. He's totally acclimated to the classroom now, and will be moving into the classroom full time soon. Any complaints I've had have been met with solutions and if there was a problem they could not solve they referred me to someone who could. Mr. Sam and Karlie are great teachers, and the classroom is amazing. Music therapy is twice a week and they have clinics for OT and speech. Once a month there are Saturday camps, and Friday evening camps as well. These don't have an additional cost except for siblings and as long as you have therapy hours available. Holiday events have been so much fun! The school doesn't require verbal only like every other competitor in the area that refuses to serve any other population other than tier 1 verbal kids. So that was a huge plus for us. The program is year round. Overall we are really satisfied, and look forward to the 2019-2020 school year.

The driving and the distances to family homes often precludes a substitute if a session is cancelled last minute. (Especially in a county as huge as LA) Parents also commonly have to cancel at the last minute . What company has someone on standby to drive an hour to do a session that may not even work on the child's needs because they are not part of that case? Most parents would prefer someone they know to do these sessions , not some random other employee. What parent wants a sick therapist bringing germs into their home? I know from personal experience that Yvonne Bruinsma and her staff genuinely care about these kids. She isn't doing this to make money. She's doing it to change lives and finds her purpose in serving ,as do most of her staff.

The treatments actually work but the most important part of the treatment is the constant feedback. You are in constant communication about the results you are seeing from treatments and Dr Velkoff adjusts accordingly. I don't know if I have ever met a doctor who is more invested in a treatment outcome than Dr Velkoff. My son was struggling with severe fears and anxiety and wasn't seeing the improvements we expected at first. Dr Velkoff was so invested in his success, he paused my son's treatment and referred us to another doctor who ended up discovering my son had PANS. Once we got that under control we resumed treatment and within a week we were seeing amazing results. Dr Velkoff even threw in a few free sessions to catch up on lost time. How often do you get that level of care and attention? My son is now living a normal life. His world was getting so small and it broke our hearts but he is now thriving and functioning independently. It's worth every penny, every session. We are so glad we did this.

In second grade, he was struggling to finish his work on time, stay focused in class, maintain friendships and would cry easily. We started out with 3 sessions a week at first and then tapered down to 2. In total, he did about 50 sessions, most of them done over summer break. We were concerned that since it was summer break, his brain wasn't being stretched enough. But it seemed to have a positive effect! Third grade has been a world of difference. My son has been able to keep up with his work, writes down his assignments, has not cried in school, and is overall a happier kid and has been able to build friendships. He also enjoyed going to Drake as he thought the video games were fun (but he did get bored of them later on). In addition to the Drake sessions, we were also doing play therapy. Is his improvement due to Drake? His maturing by a year? Play therapy? Probably a combination of all three. But I do think that Drake played a big role. We are very happy with our experience at the Drake Institute.

We have been attending three times a week for over 10 months, and my son has shown remarkable improvement, transforming from a child who ran around aimlessly to a wonderfully focused individual. Additionally, the staff and the culture at the center are very warm and welcoming. We felt it was our second home. We enjoyed tea together, discussed our feelings, and the kids were happy due to the positive attention--from the welcoming smiles and toys for all kinds of occasions to the shared food. My son felt very comfortable there. The center offers numerous parenting seminars on topics like nutrition, psychology, brain science, and hosts festival gatherings with many resources. Most importantly, the culture there is so welcoming that I truly felt they are not just a training center but a family I can rely on. Even after we left the center, we still constant going back for different seminars and events.

When my family had the misfortune of dealing with her she claimed to be in Irvine. Things change but that wouldn't be the only piece of outright false claim she made. (When we first spoke she commiserated over our situation and she claimed, as a "single parent" that she had a special understanding to offer my family. At our only appointment she wore a wedding ring and spoke often about struggles she and her husband had raising their family. Should have been more of a red flag.) We had a single session with my kids who have autism spectrum and emotional dis l-regulation diagnoses respectively. We met at their grandmother's home as a neutral ground as their mom and I are no longer together. An important detail is that their grandmother wrote Ms. Reiner a check and we set a follow up appointment at my home. In the weeks between the kids left town with their mom and I cancelled, by phone, the appointment. Ms. Reiner showed up anyway and then left without any appointment taking place. The short version is that a few weeks later Ms. Reiner sued my mom, not her client, for the cancelled appointment. She has refused all requests to provide any signed contract as a basis for her suit. She sent the sheriffs to mom's (79 and recovering from surgery) to serve her bogus suit. My opinion is that since she had mom's bank details she thought she'd be able to harass her through collections. She then sent a demand for over triple the cost of the cancelled appointment (claiming costs and "interest") and is now trying to get mom's bank to pay her. Dirty business in my opinion. She will never come near my children, or any of my family, ever again. As far as her actual service? If you need someone to come by and speak condescendingly to your kids, maybe Askmelissanow is for you. In my opinion, people who seek to take money, unearned, from families with special needs kids ought to be called out.
