Went here on a whim as a date surprise for my husband and I. We had an hour to spare before picking up our daughter from an afterschool program and was looking for an activity to do together. Yelp pointed me this way and thought it was a great idea! I liked that the place has A/C, unlike the one in Alhambra. We came in, checked in and got our billiards. Sticks are on the wall to choose from. There were about 20 pool tables there, some bigger than others. When we got there at 3pm on a Friday, half of the tables were filled. Place is clean and mostly male players but everyone just kept to themselves. My husband says the tables are pretty nice and well maintained (apparently he play a lot of pool in his day ). We got hungry before our hour was up so we brought back the billiards to the front and he calculated our total based on our time there. It was less than $10 for about 45 minutes of play. Locates in a small plaza, opens until 2AM. One thing I like about this place compared to others is no smoking and no gambling policy. The building is quite old, but clean and spacious inside. Have several options from American to Chinese (Larger) tables. Can get pretty packed towards night. They have membership for $30/month with cheaper hourly rate if you do billiards often. read more

Pretty standard to leave your ID at pool clubs. But upon checking out, we found out the guy at the front gave our ID to the wrong person and they had already left. No excuse besides careless behavior. We had to drive in a storm to go get our ID back from the guy. Please double check you are giving the right ID to the right person. read more

16 pool tables split between regular billards and snooker, nice clean and pretty open. Not stuff like the other ones and there's a kitchen next door. Not a bad place to get a game going prices vary for members or just catching a game. Membership fee is 35$ for the year which knocks off a couple bucks everytime you play. All n all this is definitely one of the better locations if you're trying to escape the heat or just relax! read more

Overview: Embassy Billiards is a mixed affair: post 2k, there was a gang shooting and that reputation has stuck over the years. Today, it's a much more established pool hall, offering monthly tournaments as well has hosting the US Open Prelims. Probably one of the best pool halls in the San Gabriel area. Staff: One cute girl and a mess of fobs. She makes rounds taking drink orders and is most commonly seen in a miniskirt, adorable. The guys keep to themselves, unless you know them, and the bouncers are generally nice. Mon-Sat the nighttime bouncer is Peter from Thailand, and doesn't mind smoking your cigarettes, if you're looking for a pass. Food Services: No alcohol. Kitchen service is from Embassy Kitchen next door, standard Hong Kong cafe fare: fried rice, pork chop rice, chow mien: awkward to eat since you only have high chairs and wall ledges. Drinks are the standard asian selection: boba, teas, etc. Speed is decent. Pricing: There are 3 kinds of tables, snooker, standard, tournament. Premium times (Fri, Sat, Sun day/nights) are pricey: snooker runs for about 25.99, standard 14.99, tournament 19.99. Standard times are -4, and happy hour (Mon-Thur 2-5) is -6. If you have membership, $100 lifetime, or $40 annual, you get 10% off. $15 monthly for lockers. Services: The standard tables are worn (they change the felt once a year, but the usage is ridiculous). The pockets are incredibly slutty, the felt is mediocre, the rails are blunted, knicked balls, and the tables are just a tad too packed; if you're looking to burn time for cheap, decent. The tournament tables are great: regulation sized holes, sharp rails, pristine felt, very well spaced. Same applies for snooker- this is the only pool hall i've seen that has snooker tables. Excellent lighting and ventilation. Crowd: All asians. Fob asians and ABC's of every ethnicity, minus koreans. I don't mind much, but the chinese can get quite rowdy and tend to crowd a table. There's going to be a good number of hot chicks on a weekend, but you'll have to contend with a wait list. Action: If you're looking for a random game, try the Tournament tables- if the old timers aren't in a game of snooker, they'll 9-ball with you. My go-to spot to shoot pool in the 626. I forget who first took me here, but I'm glad he did since Billiards is now one of my favorite past times. Took me awhile to learn how to kick someone's ass in pool, but all that practicing and hard work has paid off, if I do say so myself :) If I'm ever bored in SGV and don't feel like: 1) bowling 2) KTV'ing 3) or hanging out in a boba joint, this is where you'll find me. Place looks kind of shady, but it's not that bad once you go inside. They do card (you have to be 18+) and they do check ladies' purses. No liquids permitted inside, including water -- they do this, so you purchase water and drinks from them. It's $11-12/hour, which isn't too bad. All-in-all, no complaints! read more

You wont be getting much english here...on the table or off the table -- except if you decide on the snooker and tournament sized tables. The quality of tables and prices increase respectively; which isn't too bad if you come with a couple of friends for a casual day of pool. It has a pretty serene atmosphere if you come during the daytime on weekdays, much like any other place. You can usually catch the old Pros battling it out on the snooker tables occasionally -- reminds me of a movie scene! After hours, there is a security guard at the door that checks IDs if you look under 18. My friend and I spent a summer on a pool-shooting 'rampage' and went to every possible poolhall we could find. This, we found, was as good as it gets -- which is why it gets 5 stars. Don't get me wrong; if you're looking for inexpensive alternatives there's Cue Ball down main street or 4th Dimension in Monrovia. However, considering the fact that out of the 3 Embassy is the only one that doesn't serve alcohol, the few extra bucks an hour, along with a small side restaurant, are how they make business. The front desk has always been friendly. One of the Pros actually offered free classes at one time too! -- although I'm not sure if he does that anymore. Overall, unless you're willing to go to K-town to shoot pool at night, this is the go to place. read more

Well, Unlike most of these Reviewers, I actually play Billiards, Pocket ball, and Carom very well so I'll review Embassy from a Billiard players point of view. 1. Tables, Pocket and Snookers. The snooker tables are nicer than the pocket tables. 2. House cues are a joke, like many places. Thats WHY REAL PLAYERS LIKE ME SHOOT WITH $1,000 cues. $300 Jump / Break cues. and $400 custom Leather cases. 3. Pocket tables are quite bad. The balls are always dirty and not well maintained. 4. Expensive in my opinion for not such good quality tables. I think I paid like $12-15 an Hour. For that price, I can go to K-Town and hit up some nice Brunswick Gold Crowns with tight pockets. read more

Not bad. This place is an Asian filled (people, not memorabilia) pool hall, which I like being Asian meself. Lots of free tables on a Sunday night and pretty low key. That's a plus for me considering how badly I suck at pool. At this place, I dont' have to worry about people watching me or anything because everybody pretty much minds their own business. We played for awhile and it was pretty fun actually. Now comes the reasons why this place only gets 3 instead of 5. The parking is a mess, especially since it shares the lot with two busy restaurants. Also, the cost is a little pricey for what you get. It's $15 bucks an hour, a little much for an establishment that does not serve alcohol. And there's a 20 dollar minimum if you want to use your credit card. Also, the servers are slow at bringing your food/drinks. But I had a good time and am always interested in finding new places to hang out at so Embassy is good in my book. read more

This is the only place in LA that has proper snooker tables! It's $20/hour during the weekends but snooker tables are expensive to maintain so it's reasonable. The owner of the place was very friendly even invited us to free food! All in all we got a great deal and would definitely want to come back even if we live some 30 miles away. read more

Ended up here after dinner with a friend...wanted to do something just to kill time so we came here. This place was pretty neat but it just something here that feel off. I haven't gone to Embassy to play pool in about 4 years and I thought maybe it has changed when I went the past weekend. I used to go to Cue Ball in Alhambra (which is okay, too) and 4d (monrovia) is greaaat price (but the environment is a bit shady). Anyway, before I stray from the topic....the only thing that's changed at Embassy are the staff and its clientele. They have good snooker tables but the pool tables aren't in great shape. They do have the staff brush the tables after the customers leave but that's about it. But, then again this is a billiard place.. The price is quite expensive (I believe it is now $15.00/hour) but my friend had the membership ($25 per year or $50 lifetime) in which you have a discount towards the hourly rate. It's okay priced in an okay environment. There used to be Asian gangsters that go there but from what I see, there are harrdly them now. Most of their customers are now young'uns. Oh yeah, they still card you when you're out front (either I look really young or they do that to everyone). read more

I haven't played pool at Embassy for about 3 years, but the last time I did, I had been going for around 6-7 years. With many selections of pool halls around the area, the reason why I went to Embassy for so long was purely convenience. Most of my friends from that area go there and at one point one of my friends worked there, too. The pool tables, balls and cues are all in decent condition. They have one of the staff brush the table after a customer is done with it. They do not serve food, but they do serve beverages. No alcohol, though. There is also no smoking. If you want to smoke, you have to do it outside. read more

There's some outdated information here left by previous yelpers. Annual membership is $25 now, and lifetime membership is $50. Membership still gives 10% off.
