I don't know what this Embassy Suites looked like before the renovation mentioned in other reviews, but it looks extremely modern with everything new and clean. In fact, I'm pretty sure the microwave in my room had never been used. The instruction manual was sitting on the turnstile when I opened it. Well, it has still never been used since I found an electric water heater in a different cupboard. The lobby has free water most of the time during the day and a free vending machine that has coffee and tea etc that operates all the time. Also, my room had a Keurig in it with six complimentary pods. In the morning, fruit is place out in the hall and in the lobby for people to take if they want. As for location, you can get to Parliament in about 15-20 minutes on foot. Or if you want to go a different direction you can reach Chinatown in about the same amount of time. The floor in the shower is pretty slippery, but there is a rubber mat underneath the sink that you can use to prevent any slipping. Also, if you're looking for it, the dish soap is under the sink. Also, the air flow in my room was terrible. There's only a small part of the window that can be opened. Unfortunately, this vent only seems to affect the bedroom. My living room, which has a fold out bed, kept whatever smells is in a sort of oppressive stagnation. I found out that I left my front door open, everything would clear out. I suspect the rooms with balconies do not have this air flow problem. Would I stay here again? Yes.

This is where I stay when visiting friends or on business in Ottawa. Interestingly enough, this is also the place out-of-town actors/creative teams stay when performing in a show at the NAC (National Arts Centre). The suites are functional, somewhat tasteful and have everything you could need. It really IS like a home away from home. In a not-too-fancy-hotel kind of way. Some of the apartments are over 1,000 square feet, so it works for longer stays REALLY well (I know this from experience! I personally stayed there for three weeks once, and I have friends that lived there for three months doing a show). There are two bedroom, one bedroom and bachelor-style suites, and I think they all have a full kitchen - I've never stayed in a room that didn't - and I've stayed in a LOT of rooms here a LOT of different times! The kitchen is INTEGRAL to longer stays, or when you are trying to be economical by grocery shopping instead of eating out! It's a short walk through City Hall to the Rideau Centre mall, and it's extremely well located for both Elgin and Bank Streets, etc. There are a lot of great bars and restaurants within walking distance, and it's right by a WHOLE bunch of different transportation options (OC Transpo shout-out!!!) if you need to get somewhere else! VERY good location off the main streets. They have underground parking available, and there is an above-ground lot across the street as well. Both cost, but aren't overpriced at all. It's a good deal for this area of the city. The underground lot is small, so it fills up quickly. Book a parking spot when you reserve a room, just to make sure... especially if you're visiting in winter. It is always immaculately clean. Not much more to say about that... I've never seen an exception. It smells great but not overpowering in any way - no strong perfumes, no strong cleansers, but you can feel it's well taken care of. When you're staying longer, you can choose how often to have housekeeping. They have in-room wireless available for an extra daily fee, but each unique computer requires a different code (as my Mom and I found out last time we were there and couldn't figure out at first why only one computer would work at a time... LAME). You receive a free paper each morning you stay. Unfortunately, it's the National Post, not the Ottawa Citizen or at the very least the Globe. Boooo! The staff is FAB - all super friendly, helpful (always willing to go out of their way/beyond job requirements to make your stay totally comfortable), and they are all really knowledgeable about the hotel, the area, the city and the transit options. A note about eating nearby: There's an Italian restaurant across the street that's worth checking out if you want to stay close to "home", but it's worth much MORE checking out Elgin Street's many awesome and delicious options. ESPECIALLY FOR BRUNCH! There's a few cool little places along Somerset Ave. as well, which is within a few blocks as well.

It's a pretty beat up hotel - not what I expected. It's not the embassy suit s brand.

This is an older hotel, well situated but not part of the embassy suites brand. Parking is limited. The halls have been redone.

It was a nice modern suite with a kitchen, all modern appliances, pots and pens, utensils everything you could possibly need in a case you decide to stay in for a meal. It was very pretty, but also very homey. We used the garage, and had no problem with it. There is still some construction in the area and in front of the entrance, but we used the car to get in and out, so it didn't affect us at all.

The interior was nicely decorated, modern, bright, and quite spacious. There were many luxurious aspects to this place: Lagostina cookware, Aveda soaps/shampoos/conditioners, Smart TVs in the living room and bathroom, a rain shower head (plus a movable shower head if a rain shower isn't your thing), en-suite laundry, a movie room and gym (of course these were closed due to the pandemic), even a little balcony. The concierge wasn't in at the time of our arrival and check-in was seamless. Soho Champagne communicated with me prior to check-in to ensure all my questions were answered. Plus, this place is conveniently located near Little Italy and Chinatown. I wished that we were able to stay longer. There are 3 reasons that I knocked off a star. Before I get into these, I'll mention that I was given a number to call if I had any problems with the room, but I didn't think any of the problems were worth calling about. First, the remote to open the garage didn't work from inside the car (maybe low/no battery?) and I had to get out of the car each time to get the garage door to open. Second, upon check-in I took a shower and there were 2 long and noticeable hairs stuck to the wall of the shower. Finally, I could not for the life of me get the TV in the bedroom to work. For the price of the room, I'd expect a bit more attention to detail in these areas. All in all, we had an amazing time and would definitely stay at Soho Champagne again.

My boyfriend and I drove to Ottawa from Jersey, driving through Pennsylvania and New York State. After seven hours on the road, we were beat. Luckily, we found a parking spot in the hotel's available underground parking garage and went through check-in at the front desk fairly quickly. When we got to our room, we dropped our bags and rested. The beds were comfy and the room was nicely decorated. The bathroom had a shower and there were Aveda toiletry products on the sink counter (loved them). We didn't get one of the rooms facing the lobby, so our window looked out to the street. Overall, I liked our room. Plus, there is free Wi-Fi. There is a restaurant downstairs. Didn't try the food, but we had a couple of beers there after a long day of sightseeing. The gym in the hotel was good - it has variety of machines and free weights. The hotel also has a pool. Also, there is a little business center where you can use a computer and printer; I pulled up our MapQuest directions there which was very helpful. Next time I come to Ottawa, I'll most likely book here. Highly recommended!

The bathroom however was so cheap, standing shower (no glass door) with a shower curtain, drain semi-clogged, water would flow onto the flooring and it made the bathroom wet. Besides the location, my room could use a bit of maintenance in the bathroom (hard to adjust hot water, toilet making a weird noise while filling up, and power outlets being flimsy). However, the room was clean and relatively quiet. I liked their restaurant / breakfast options and friendly staff. Never had an issue. Looking around within the brand, I found that the Hilton Garden Inn Ottawa Downtown had a rate so much better that even paying for parking, it was less expensive, even a better rate than the Homewood Suites sharing this space. Plus, it had the convenience of being close to the government buildings, Byward Market, and downtown, and only 2 blocks from the light rail. Parking was underground and convenient, but such a tight squeeze. Vehicle clearance is only 5' 9", and the parking spaces don't allow a lot of space for opening doors fully. My room had a great view of the Ottawa River and Gatineau. The room was fairly quiet and dark. Temperature control was good, with temperature settings by the half-degree Celsius. But the air vent blows directly over the bed. Luckily the thermostat had high and low settings for the fan, and with low it was fine. But every time you changed the temperature, the fan was reset to high. I appreciated the fact that I could shop around for best rates at various times during my stay in Ottawa. I was less appreciative of the fact that the rates changed so much during the course of any week and weekend.
