My boyfriend and I went to rent a u-haul from this place and had a horrible experience. Scroll to the last paragraph for the summary. We arrived around the time he had rented it for (12pm on a Saturday) and found the office locked. We waited around and eventually a guy in a hoodie entered the area and unlocked the office. The office was merely a room within the gate itself with a desk and some computers. When asked about the truck, his first response was: "What? I only have a van." We had noticed the van parked out there earlier but no truck. When my boyfriend reminded him that he had reserved the truck for this day and time, the guy found out that the worker from the day before had double booked the truck but that they were supposed to be back an hour or two ago. He called them up and asked them very politely when they'd have the truck back and they said about 2:30pm. He didn't really give them any sense of urgency or remind them that they were late in returning it. So since we had to wait another hour or more, we decided to go back home for a bit and come back. When it was time, we started heading back and tried to call to find out if the truck had been returned yet. He never picked up the phone once. We arrived and once again the office was closed and locked. We looked around and found the truck...unlocked. We waited for a while trying to figure out what to do and then decided we just had to leave. We got in our car and started to drive out and there was the guy in the hoodie standing outside the coffee stand nearby chatting it up with the barista. He walked over to our car and asked "So you want that truck still?". We were both pretty frustrated. Of course we wanted the truck...we had been waiting for an hour for him to show up at the office he was supposed to be keeping office hours at. Anyway, we got the truck finally and it delayed the whole move about 4 hours because of all that mess. I couldn't help but write some kind of review about the place after that. He tried to give us a deal on the u-haul after that but the shennangans that were pulled almost cost us the whole moving day....a measly $10 or $20 wasnt going to make up for that. In summary, my experience with the storage place entails: Office hours that are not kept and workers who overbook u-hauls. I would never ever rent a u-haul from them again. There was a dead rat in my unit. I went to move my stuff out of the unit on July 26 2015. When I opened the unit I was met with a faint smell of pee. I tried not to think too much of it so I started moving my boxes. Then I started seeing rat droppings everywhere and knew something wrong. I moved my boxes out no problem save for the pee smell. But then I went to move my bed and there was a freaking dead rat behind it. I didn't know what to do so I went to the office to talk to them. The office was closed even though online it said it was open on Sunday 9-12. So I called the off site number that's posted on the office door. I'm on the verge of tears at this point. The guy answers but he's not sympathetic or understanding. I ask if someone can come down and get rid of the rat. He kept refusing. Like I get that it was his day off but there was a freaking dead rat in my unit! He told me they could take care of the rat on Monday. The only things left in my unit were my mattress and couch- both ruined by rat pee. I ask how much they would charge me if I left them there. He said since I didn't leave a deposit I wouldn't lose any money if I left it there and they don't charge their customers for leaving stuff in the unit. So in the end I just left those two items there. This storage unit ended up costing me a whole lot because now I have to go out and replace my couch and mattress. read more

Not sure this place really cares what their customers think. The uhaul truck was fine, got 8 mpg, and had good pick up. The guy who inspected the truck with me was pleasant. But the lady behind the desk really shouldn't be in the business of dealing with customers. She knows her stuff but is brusk, with no interest in making this rental a good experience. When I emptied the cab of my lunch trash, she said her trash cans were full so I put the trash in my car to take it home. If you are in a hurry and want to pay to have them fill the truck for you the markup on gas price is 150%. She didn't want to check me out when I returned the truck and said she'd email me the receipt, but I wanted to complete the transaction then. She was on the phone and didn't want to get off. I wasn't sure that it wasn't personal business that she was so busy with. Look at my profile, I don't complain very much at all, but this was a rather sour experience. I won't be back. read more

Polite, friendly, and supportive customer service. I felt like I was back in Fortuna, where customers are neighbors and service goes both ways. Highly recommend this place. Price is more than fair and again service was great. Be prepared to pay 10 dollars for a lock. read more

The price was among the very lowest for outer Seattle, so I was expecting equally bad quality, but so far it seems exceptional upon move-in, especially for the price ($65/mo for 10x5, first full month half off) I did my reservation through sparefoot.com, I called them to confirm and they actually had people answering phones on a Sunday, and a few minutes after I got reserved with them, I called Emerald Self Storage to confirm my reservation and they had it emailed to them instantly from the website. The place was easy to get to via surface streets, which majorly cut down on traffic and driving time for a sunny summer weekend. Outside had a gate and exterior looked well-maintained. Inside looked like it had a fresh coat of paint and was very clean, my unit itself was also clean. It's two-story but the elevator and wide staircase made moving to the second floor easy. I saw security cameras by the elevator and in the hallways, I assume it's under adequate surveillance. It appeared to be climate controlled and very comfortable and cool in the summer, but we'll see about the winter (worried about mildew in the PNW) but it's supposed to be heated. The guy behind the desk was absolutely friendly and helpful, like talking to somebody's dad. He was a little bit scatterbrained about adding up the first rent, and even though they gave you a free lock, one of the three keys didn't work, but the guy instantly exchanged our lock, and when we asked, he did his math again for the rent. He mentioned that different family members take turns running the desk throughout the week, so I'm under the impression that it's a family-owned business as well. He also picked out a great unit for us that was close to the elevator and stairs, and it was a 5x10 that was arranged wide & shallow instead of a hallway, so moving stuff into the unit was really easy. Also, this dude gets major bonus points for checking me in right at about closing time, not rushing anything, giving us a tour of the unit before anything was signed or paid for, then he checked in this other customer after me who got there after closing who had an entire Uhaul truck. I didn't rent a Uhaul van from here, but I think there was the option to. The service was surprisingly excellent, I couldn't have asked for more, especially for the price, I would absolutely recommend this place. read more

We moved yesterday, December 1st, and had a fantastic experience renting our u-haul from Emerald Self Storage. We chose them because they were only a mile from both our old place and our new home. I called to confirm our reservation the evening before and was told they would be REALLY busy that morning when they opened at 9am so there may be a wait. When I was concerned about how long it would take, the man working (I wish I remembered his name!) said he would meet us 30 minutes early to make it more convenient for us. As we pulled up to the gate at 8:30am he opened it for us and had all of our paperwork and the truck ready to go - we were in and out in less than 5 minutes! We were done with the truck in about 5 hours and the process of returning the truck was just as easy. I would absolutely recommend this facility for u-haul rentals, they were great! :) read more

I would give this place ZERO stars however unfortunately this was not an option. I have used this place two times given its close proximity to my house. Despite the horrible first experience, I decided to give them one more try and the second experience was worse then the first. Despite having a reservation on both visits, no one was there when I showed up. The office was also locked / closed and no one was to be found. Great place. Great rates. Great customer service. We originally started with a smaller unit inside the building. We ended up moving up to a 10x15' (I think), also inside the building. We recently moved out due to no longer needing a storage unit. The management is very nice, the grounds are clean and secure. I recommend. read more

I made a reservation through Uhaul to be picked up at this location. I was about 15 minutes late, so called ahead to let them know. No one answered the phone. When I arrived the facility was closed and still no one answered. I contacted Uhaul customer service who were of no help. In fact I was hung up on. When I called back, I was told someone would call me back in 10 minutes. No one ever returned my phone call. I was then charged a cancellation fee by the dealer, which will be reversed after conversation with a Uhaul customer service representative. This made my moving experience less than pleasant.
